Silver trainers - yay or nay?

Am bored of my white trainers and they are looking a bit tired after a couple of years wear. Thinking about some silver ones for a change - but are they a bit ‘cruise’ wear? Have seen some nice ones in Russell and Bromley and Air and Grace with a bit of a platform - I’m short so need all the height I can get!

Silver, bronze, gold whatever yay! They have got to look better than this rash of Adidas !

It's a no from me, unless it is only a tiny bit of metallic (eg. silver stripe on side). Even then you have to be careful its not too much.

They don't look better.

I love anything with shimmer, I’m like a magpie. Gold or silver. I have rose gold supergas which I’ve worn a lot.

I have silver Nike AF1s. Love them! And get lots of compliments when I wear them. The silver is cracking round the air holes now though and I don’t think they do them any more 😢

They don't look better.

Some of us don’t want to dress like carbon copies of each other.. Sambas have become so common that I now find them a bit cringeworthy, saying this as someone who owns a pair.

I have these metallic pink/rose gold chunky Reeboks that I love ❤️ They are so comfy too like walking on air.

I think that they are probably cruisewear/funky gran territory (which might be fine, you could be a funky gran!) depending on what you're wearing them with and your overall style.

Haha, am definitely not ready to be a gran, funky or otherwise (kids are still tweens!). Mixed responses I see! I’m a bit of a magpie when it comes to sparkly things so have to be mindful that it’s not always the best look for me 😂. I was looking at the air and grace sadie platform ones but they are pricey. I already have some sambas which I like but they are very flat and I don’t find them that comfortable, so was looking for a thicker sole… lhttps://airandgracelondon.com/products/sadie-silver-metallic-platform-trainers

They're not personally my thing, but Mary Beard really rocks her gold trainers so I think if you wear them with confidence they can look great. Don't overbling the rest of your gear though - they need to stand out.

Converse Silver glitter ones

PerfectTravelTote · 05/06/2024 15:32

Its a yay from me. They go with all the same things as white but they stay clean looking for a lot longer.

Trendy teenage DD has silver metallic converse - I am very jealous

Viviennemary · 05/06/2024 17:01

Dreadful. Bit shocked They are considered normal wear.

Outnumbered247 · 05/06/2024 17:04

Yay, so bored of white ones

nobodysdaughter · 05/06/2024 17:24

You sound like you really like them! So wear them! Whether I'd wear them or not is irrelevant.

SloaneStreetVandal · 05/06/2024 20:19

I love a silver sneak! I have a pair of air jordan 1 low silver toe (as pic). My daughter has the gold toe version. Hard to come by though...

Agree with this! I have gold ones from Ecco.

Not sure what cruisewear is. Isn't it the mid season collections from the big fashion houses? Or is it what regular people wear on a package holiday cruise?

Whatever it is, this thread is bringing back happy memories of a pair of black and metallic DKNY trainers I had in the early 2000s. Absolutely loved them. I feel like my life ever since has been a quest to find trainers that live up to their glory.

ABirdsEyeView · 06/06/2024 21:09

I've come up the conclusion that people should just wear whatever trainers they personally like. No one who is intrinsically uncool is going to be rendered otherwise just by owning the current fav. It's impossible to please everybody anyway and even the trendiest of trainers can get ruined by an appearance on a politician or other unfashionable celebrity!

I’m going to take a wild guess and say that it’s more associated with the middle aged, middle class retiree cruise crowd!
