"Out out" clothes for the middle aged (but young at heart!)

I'm going on a hen night with my old pals from many years ago, in three weeks time.

It's a weekend away (in the UK) and the Saturday night is dinner, then pub, then a club till late.

I've not been "out - out" in years!

My social life these days is (occasional!) pubs, restaurants, and friends houses. I honestly can't remember the last time I set foot in a club or went dancing!

What do people even wear these days?

Does anyone here still go clubbing? What do you wear?

The club looks pretty cool. Eclectic, not aimed at 20 something's, definite focus on fun and dancing the night away.

I should probably I'm pretty large these days!

Any tips gratefully received, I'm totally at sea here!

Hey OP! Feel free to describe yourself exactly how you want and don't be silenced by the judgement or hang ups of others!

I love a jumpsuit or playsuit for a night out, but only one that's easy to go to the loo in (so no back fastens or millions of buttons). A sparkly short wrap dress also great but with trainers/comfy shoes or a slip dress with a looser top/t over it (AllSaints style) are my favourites.

Have a great time whatever you wear, I've not been on a Hen in years and miss those fun vibes x

Which city are you going out in? Some have more of a dressing up vibe than others. Liverpool, for example, is pretty glam, whereas I once went clubbing in Brighton in a cosy jumper cos it was chilly out.

I was going to ask exactly the same question.

@Squirrelsnut are you the OP in disguise? If so, your outfit sounded great, I'm a big fan of black but a bit tighter or shorter than daytime, easy to dress up as well with other stuff. Hope you had a fab time!

Not me! I've still got a couple of weeks to procrastinate over outfits...

The club is definitely leaning more towards Brighton than Liverpool. Eclectic, creative, anything goes, probably no one would bat an eyelid if you turned up in a cosy jumper.

But I'd like to wear a nice "going out" outfit, not a cosy jumper, however lovely 😁

I think it depends where you are, at home anything goes but I'm up north at the moment and evening wear, even for middle age, was either a nice dress, heels or strappy top micro mini or trousers with heels, must be gold but chunky or stilettos. A few people wore trainers or flats. I felt totally underdressed in wide trousers, Henley top and trainers.

South East. Definitely no heels - I'll be in trainers, DMs or similar - dancing shoes!

(Yes I know many women dance in heels, but hats off to you if that's you, I definitely need flats for an evening's dancing).

I always start with the shoes / trainers / boots for clubs or gigs. Then work out what looks good with them. Summer is black trainers, winter it’s chunky boots.

Black skinny jeans with a sleeveless top is my go-to unless it’s going to be hot in which case I like a sleeveless midi dress (also black, there’s a theme here!). I like chunky earrings / necklace / bracket plus some bright coloured eyeshadow.

Hope you have a great time!
