What do you think of this dress?

Opinions on this dress please?

I have bought it to try out and really like the fit, which is flattering, but just not 100% sure on the style or the pattern being age appropriate or not...I do wear some quite busy patterns but mainly florals.

I'm 36, 5ft 7, size 16.
Not a trendy fashionista by any means but I'm also keen to retain some youthfulness and not look frumpy! (Which I know can be a risk with midi dresses and certain patterns)

Thanks in advance

I think for a casual dress it's good. Can't comment on colour as it really depends on your our colouring.

Thanks- oh yes should have mentioned that... very pasty pale skin, dark blonde hair.

The high neckline is going to be very unflattering if you have larger boobs.

I'm sorry but I think it is frumpy, and I'm in my early 50s.

CharlotteRumpling · 12/05/2024 23:19

Most dresses these days are high necked and floral. I don't think it is any frumpier than many out there. I like the colour but that kind of shirred bodice is not to my taste.

WeAreAllMadeOfStarz · 12/05/2024 23:21

Very frumpy, I think.

TryingAgainAgainAgain · 12/05/2024 23:23

Frumpy

JunkBasket · 12/05/2024 23:24

Extremely frumpy, really don't like it sorry

TheChosenTwo · 12/05/2024 23:35

I love a midi dress but I think the shirred bust looks really cheap and the pattern is a bit dowdy. Sorry op! I find it hard getting nice midis at the moment, had some nice ones from nobody’s child last year. I personally prefer plain block colours rather than super busy florals.
It’s not an awful dress but I think there are probably much nicer ones out there along these lines but just less blah.

SuffolkUnicorn · 12/05/2024 23:37

Not my style but buy it try on and see what you think

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 13/05/2024 08:34

It's an offensive, every day dress. It's a blend into the background dress. It's a dress I wouldn't notice anyone wearing. It would be better in cotton than viscose. I've nothing against viscose but there's viscose and viscose and I suspect this isn't good viscose.

But if you have to ask a random selection of posters you're probably not that keen on it. Although personally I would ignore all the "eugh frumpy" comments - what a useless word that is. I'd love to see what "the eugh frumpy" crowd are wearing.

skippy67 · 13/05/2024 09:01

I see dresses like those and think "what's the point"?

You meant inoffensive perhaps?

LookItsMeAgain · 13/05/2024 10:37

As a dress it’s ok. Can’t really comment on what you’re really asking - whether it is a dress for you, until we see it on you.

Q124 · 13/05/2024 10:43

Sorry its just really dull and frumpy. There are a million dresses out there that look like that. There's nothing nice or special about it.

GettingStuffed · 13/05/2024 10:47

I love it. To get over the " high necks don't suit large busts" just wear a long necklace the which will draw attention from the high neck. On the other hand I don't mind my boobs being accentuated by a dress

ohpoowhatnow · 13/05/2024 10:54

Very frumpy and boring

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 13/05/2024 11:26

Frumpy to me.

The OP specifically used that word in her post so people are responding to it.

Breadcat24 · 13/05/2024 14:40

Generally not wild on anything shirred- can make you look lumpy and if it deteriorates in the wash looks a mess.
But if you have tried it and like it go you

YorkNew · 13/05/2024 14:45

It’s a nice easy to wear dress.

DreadPirateRobots · 13/05/2024 14:47

It's difficult to say without seeing it on you. But I'd have concerns about that print, that neckline and the shirring on a size 16 - and even in the pro site pics, it looks cheap.

TuesdayWhistler · 13/05/2024 14:56

Looks fine to me.

Little denim or blazer
Sambas or sandals
Little camera bag
And an attitude of "fuck what you all think"

Trickedbyadoughnut · 13/05/2024 15:52

I can only say, that I am a similar size to you, although over 40, and I would look like my mother in that (I love my mother, but don't want to dress the same as her).

I honestly haven't really been able to find any floral dress that don't make me look like my mother. People say I have a quite funky, colourful style generally, but I really think that I would need to be a lot more stylish and quirky than I am to get away with a floral dress, sadly!

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 13/05/2024 16:46

CharlotteRumpling · 13/05/2024 10:08

You meant inoffensive perhaps?

Yes , sorry inoffensive. It's an ordinary, probably quite easy to wear dress. It won't set the hills on fire but I've seen stuff I've disliked far more.

Twolittleloves · 13/05/2024 22:22

Thanks all for the helpful and honest replies! I have decided to return it, I think if I have doubts it must mean its not for me....I don't put it on and instantly feel confident and secure in my appearance like i do some other items of clothing i own, which I think is the tell tale sign that it isn't right.
Any hint of frumpiness I really want to try and avoid! Sure it will suit and satisfy someone else better :)
