Summer dress for my 40th?

I’m turning 40 this summer and planning on having a garden party. I’d like to find a special dress, something fun, interesting and out of the ordinary. I’m a short size 12 hourglass and cannot wear midi or maxi, only mini (any other length drowns me). And need things that are fitted rather than loose/shapeless. Very grateful for any suggestions…

Sorry I should have said I need sleeves! Upper arms not quite up to sleeveless sadly but short sleeves are fine.
I realise it’s a tricky brief!

Would prefer short sleeves... and maybe not floral - my style is quite minimal/maybe a bit androgynous (tricky on hourglass and with a mini dress I know!). But very into colour.
Would consider shorts/ a short suit?!

I don’t normally like floral dresses either, but I was looking at this over the weekend for a garden party I have to attend: https://www.reiss.com/style/ST684454/A97192#A97192 and liked that it has a belt so I can change the shape of the dress.

Sorry if it’s completely off brief!

Sorry just saw the androgynous bit. Probably not Reformation then they are hyper feminine.

Someone will be along to suggest Sister Jane in a minute, not my cup of tea but might be what you are after, lots of short and quirky

Ooh these are lovely!! I mean androgynous is possibly overstating it - just probably not pink and floral! And I do often wear suits/shirts etc which is more that look.

I love those Reformation dresses.

Playsuit?

1984baby · 07/05/2024 12:34

Co-ord set is a great idea! Love that one though probably couldn't show my midriff after 2 DC...

And yes to playsuit though I fear it might be too hot...

Ooh yes neon that could look great with gold sandals and hoops.

OP if it’s a summer garden party you want to be careful about fabrics, anything too clingy or polyester is going to be sweatsville (or would be on me anyway)

Anything Stine Goya https://uk.stinegoya.com/collections/dress#2 try looking them up on Vinted or the OUTNET for cheaper prices. I’ve had a couple of dresses for around £30 on Vinted!

I absolutely love the simplicity of this and would wear with a fitted denim jacket with something funky embroidered on the back (sequin name??) you'd be comfy and cool IMO.
