DH also has an Eagle Creek sponge bag that he's had for at least 25 years and still looks good as new.
I meant to get one and somehow never quite got around to it - but I do have some Mia Tai ones that are great and they have some new design sponge bags that look great an open flat, as well as some bag organisers that are remarkably similar in design to some old spongebags/bag organisers that I got for a couple of pounds on ebay that also work really well as sponge bags.

I've also got old packing cubes from eagle creek that are at least 25 years old and still as good as new despite lots of wear that occasionally get pressed into service as sponge bags too!

Nice looking

I use ikea zip lock within my flat lay for easy access when doing through security (also aim for light packing and recently did 2 weeks in Japan with hand luggage only, so there’s my smug meter increased too!)

SeasickAccountant · 09/05/2024 05:57

Another one here who doesn't like massive toiletries bags that fit everything. I also prefer separate small bags : one for everyday stuff - toothbrush etc. One for bottles which might leak: shampoo, body cream, mossi spray etc; one for medicines. I use small, lightweight camping bags for all three.

I like wouf. I prefer the smaller make up bags and pouches, so I can have things split up.
And then if flying hand luggage only I often use ikea clear bag for liquids, then take a small pouch for non liquid makeup , small pouch for medical (pill/ ibuprofen/ plasters etc). If not flying hand luggage then the large or medium bags available for liquids also.

I bought this to go in my hospital bag (currently in & out with pregnancy #3) & I really like it so far.

I have a mini size wash bag like this - its ideal for flight bag etc

I left it at home last time I went away so had to pick up stuff in savers - I got a simple draw string bag, so could still hang on hooks and popped in essentials total cost was £10 for bag, shampoo, body gel, toothbrush, paste, deodorant and 2 x comb

It’s so handy! Especially the hooks & separate waterproof compartments

Peasnbeans · 09/05/2024 09:01

Some of these are bigger than my actual luggage 😂

I have a big one and it is great. Loads of compartments, hangs up. I ended up getting one each for the DDs too.

Me too!! It’s brilliant. I went with a different design.

I find mine ideal and have used it a lot - was so disappointed when I got to Dover and realised Id left it at home - I was going abroad for a month...

I have a total obsession with toiletry bags/make up bags/ sponge bags, whatever we call them. I have 2 very large drawers full with every sort there is, and still, this thread, is going to cost me a fortune. I thought I had them all...

butterpuffed · 09/05/2024 14:17

I'm old but have never heard of sponge bags . I call mine makeup bags whatever's in them !

Never heard of it either.

Caspianberg · 09/05/2024 15:44

They are very handy in hospital tbf to have larger type. I often travel light so ikea bag clear or small Fine. But in hospitals you likely share bathroom so can’t leave everything unpacked on side.
I use one for electric cables/ chargers also then

LadyEloise1 · 09/05/2024 15:59

I have a great Cath Kidston hanging toiletry bag.
Sadly it's on its last legs as I overfilled it and I don't think they do them anymore 🥲

Edawson · 09/05/2024 16:07

I love my Beautifect toiletry bag, I have this and the vanity bag. I love that they are see through to find what I need. So much space, they look good and really good quality. They have just released them all in black too so I will be treating myself to them very soon for my upcoming holiday.

Bought one in home Bargains, oval shaped with zipper, when it’s unzipped two see through zipper compartments inside, easy to view what I have brought with me. £3.99 but may have gone up but still a lot less than tkmaxx. God I haven’t heard that (sponge bag) since I needed one for the hospital back in the 70s 🤣

Theothername · 09/05/2024 16:13

I love my flat lay for make up - I use it all the time. It’s become my make up storage.

whoscoatsthatjacket2012 · 09/05/2024 16:22

I always buy the boots sale items after Xmas that have toilet bags soap & glory usually.
Was a bit confused when in laws bought me bags for my toiletries. I've never bought myself a bag on its own

ThatLibraryDebate · 09/05/2024 16:26

I... just have a triangular type one that sits upright with the zip along the top.

My last one was a Clinique freebie, and when it got manky I begrudgingly replaced it - with one I'd been given as a gift a few years before and had been using as a pencil case. It's grey, and has a nice slogan on it (can't remember what!).

My make up bag is a slightly smaller version of the same style, but in a beautiful fabric, it's a bit hippie. It's possibly handmade, and was also a gift, maybe 20 years ago.

This thread is teaching me that I put waaay less thought into these vessels than many people do!

The thing I regret buying was a travel toothbrush. I'm pretty sure I only got it because the toothpaste that fits inside it is adorably miniature. I used the toothpaste on my last trip, it lasted two uses, and I had to go and buy a regular sized tube to last me the next two days 😂
