I have one of those flat lay ones, I think I bought it from ASOS. I like it, but prefer a canvas one that I got from a local craft shop

I've got one of these. Good size that complies with the airline clear bag regulations and very roomy. I've got a lightweight hanging one that goes in the suitcase which I got in a set from QVC I think, and several others of varying patterns sizes depending on what I need to take.

I love a nice toiletry bag.

I have a hanging Orla Kiely one as mentioned above. It's huge and great that you can store several full size bottles standing up, plus there's a number of small zipped pockets for tablets, toothbrush etc. BUT it is huge and I'd only take it for a week or more holiday or if i'm travelling by car (often it ends up not going in my bag and I chuck it in the car separately it's so big). I have a couple of smaller washbags for travel sized items and short trips. Hanging ones are definitely useful for bathrooms with no shelf.

Im another who uses Ikea bags

We travel light, hand luggage only, under seat bags now they charge for cabin bags any bigger. Ikea bags are great, fluids all in one ready to go through security , charging cables in another. Then they can often fit inside a shoe in the bag to save even more space

mondaytosunday · 08/05/2024 11:42

Another one who just uses zip loc type food storage bag.

TheExclusiveSandwich · 08/05/2024 11:46

I’m not getting around the world like you lot seem to be

just going away for a weekend, I suppose

I use a Flat Lay bag for my makeup and love it. For my toiletries I use a bag I got free with a Clarins set ages ago. Fits loads and folds up really neatly. Made of nylon too so is easy to get nice and clean. I don’t like cotton toiletry bags.

I just use an IKEA food bag in the largest size.

Me too if it's a short trip.

Higglings · 08/05/2024 11:50

Best hanging bag for the shower?

MaryFuckingFerguson · 08/05/2024 13:36

For holidays, I put my makeup in a lay-flat bag, and all my makeup brushes are in a Bobbi Brown zip-up wallet thingy.

I have various sized clear plastic zip-up containers. I have several of these in various sizes. I’ll put face products in one, body products in another, shower things in another and hair products in yet another.

A wash bag? I only use one for travelling and it’s just a regular wash bag, don’t know what function it needs to be recommendable but it holds shower gel, toothpaste and shampoo if flying long haul and it can go in the hold. If short haul we just buy what we need at the airport and it goes in the shop carrier bag into our hand luggage!

Oh that looks great, just what I’ve needed, a flat one! I bought a small handbag/cooler bag from there years ago when going to Florida. One of my most used travel bags, it keeps water cold forever and I can keep other things there as well.

Some lovely wash bags out there if you like a fancy expensive one for once a year! I travel weekly, and have a small clear airport-security-acceptable clear plastic zipped bag for liquids, and the same for none-liquids. Then when I dump my wash bags out on the bathroom counter in my hotel for one night I can see exactly what I’ve got in there and where it is. Also means when my mozzie spray leaks (which is often 🙄) and I have to throw it out I’m not throwing out something expensive. Big ones with lots of pockets are for people who don’t travel light and don’t travel often.

I travel frequently and prefer a hanging one.

evtheria · 08/05/2024 16:34

If you want a flatlay one, I saw them (the branded one) in TK Maxx last week. They had the pouch bag that you open, a stand-up thing that holds brushes, and a more box shaped one.

Mine's pretty basic: zip top, pockets/compartments inside, zip pocket on the side, wipe clean.

What I am proud of is always keeping it packed with stuff I will need: shampoo, conditioner in travel bottles; mini bottle of Moroccan Oil/Olaplex; a razor; mini toothpaste; toothbrush; interdental brushes; Nivea Soft (works for body and face); tube of rinse-off cleanser; Roche-Posay SPF;HRT meds; migraine meds; nail cutters; tweezers, contact lenses; anti-histamine; Compeed. I refill and check it all back in again when I return home, put it away in the bathroom cupboard and it's one less job to think about when I'm packing for the next trip. It has taken me decades to achieve this basic bit of organisation.

I do this! It makes me feel incredibly smug.

I’m in NI so have to jump on a plane a few times a year , for weekend breaks , shopping trips etc and a flight to Edinburgh or Liverpool return is often cheaper then the cost of a bag so packing light is paramount. I’ve under seat cases and as long as I don’t bring a hair dryer , can pack for a week and find room for a few new items coming back

Where's the point if the smug-o-meter can't go up?

Oh, and I still say 'sponge-bag'. Does that mark me out as ancient?

DownWithThisKindOfThing · 08/05/2024 19:17

My husband and I both have Eagle Creek toilet bags, he has had his about 20 years and I've had mine about 15 years and they still look great! I got mine when we used to go camping when the kids were small as having the hanger bit on it was amazing in camping shower blocks!

Lwrenn · 08/05/2024 19:28

Well, he's named Jimmy and he's usually good but I did once catch him emptying the mini shampoos everywhere and I think he told my middle child to shut the fuck up once or twice under his breath, but other than that, generally he's quite decent.

*Not actual Jimmy, but very close 😁

oh wow that red one is just gorgeous, I'm totally tempted but £65!!!!

CatherineDurrant · 08/05/2024 20:38

For travelling with? Yeah, large food baggie. Contains any spills, easy.

I always unpack into a hotel bathroom so my practical Lifeventure hanging one and quilted Liberty ones have effectively gone into retirement.

laclochette · 08/05/2024 20:55

I love my Rains one, it's super spacious and very "rummagable" but somehow doesn't take up as much space as it should and it's waterproof so I don't have to sorry about anything leaking in my case.

I have these. I like that they're see-through and I choose the size I need depending on the trip.

I bought this to go in my hospital bag (currently in & out with pregnancy #3) & I really like it so far.

mdinbc · 08/05/2024 22:05

It seems to me the older I get, the more space I need for toiletries! I purchased a basic 2 set piece from the drugstore. The larger I use for shower/hair/sunscreen, and the smaller for make up. I keep the larger one stocked and ready to go, and they are washable in case something spills.

Although I admit those clear cubes look really practical.
