What do you wear in the summer? Size 14

I was always a size 10, 12 for a bit after my first baby then back to size 10. Now I’m a proper size 14 after my second. I don’t know if this should make much difference but obviously none of my previous summer clothes fit. I’m very bottom heavy and don’t like how I look in shorts anymore, but maybe there is a better style? Also very slight tummy whereas that part of me was always flat before. I don’t know if skirts or dresses are better but then I have the chub rub issue. What’s in style?

Ive never been great at this. At least when I was a size 10 with a young face I could get away with anything. 🙄 I love bright colours.

Oh and please don’t just tell me to lose weight. Yes I will at one point but I’m postpartum and life is quite stressful right now so I’d like to buy clothes that actually fit.

@mrsmacmc I got the large in the cardigan, I didn't want the crochet to look like it was being pulled

I don't think there is one look that is in style- it depends what and where the occasion is. For work I tend to wear wide legged trousers and a short sleeved blouse tucked in or a fitted t-shirt with lightweight light coloured loafers.

Casual wear could be anything from jeans and a t-shirt to chinos, to cargo pants, to cropped floaty culottes or loose fitting palazzo pants in a summery print.

For slightly more dressy occasions I wear a maxi skirt and sandals, midi dresses, a midi length fitted denim skirt or a lace or pleated midi skit with heels and a silk top tucked in.

these are fab trousers, very flattering and easy to wear with a vest top & denim jacket and some nice earrings or a necklace. They come in different colours

Remember a chunkier shoe will balance out a pear shape ie trainers or sandals with a thicker sole.
wearing colours that suit you really helps to feel confident - Emily does it online for a good price

Jade Leopard Palazzo Pants

Super comfortable and soft 100% viscose palazzo pants!  They have an amazing elasticated stretch waistband, super wide leg and great leopard print.  The rise is high and they fit high waisted.  Waft about in comfort this summer! Stretch waist extend...

You sound a similar size to me. I used to be an 8/10 but now 12/14 after having children. I like midi dresses with sandals for warmer days (usually brought from Vinted but brands like New Look, Anyday by John Lewis, Cath Kidston, Joules, Next, Zara). I quite like maxi skirts worn with a slightly oversized t-shirt tucked in and trainers. For warmer days where I know I need something more practical (trip to soft play/the park) I'll wear jeans with an oversized t-shirt and trainers.

I REALLY recommend Snag's chub rub shorts. Game changer for me in the summer!

I struggle a lot with tops. I have no idea where to find nice tops that can be worn with skirts or jeans.

I have some Hush cotton dresses that I like. I go for the ones in simple shapes (slightly A-line or tiered but not too 'ruffly') and long or elbow-length sleeves (I prefer to cover up in the sun; don't know about you). They tend to be loose relaxed shapes, which means they're nice and cool as well as flattering.

I'm a 12/14 & recently got this in navy. It's really comfy & can be dressed up or down. I've been wearing it today and it's been perfect in the warm weather
I have however noticed them on Vinted much cheaper! I'm tempted to buy another one

Love this - particularly in the sold out Cobalt. I'm a generous size 14 do you think it will fit ok ?

hby9628 · 10/05/2024 20:12

Yes I think it would be fine. It's a roomy on me but you can tie the belt bit to make it give you more shape. I've read that some of them are slightly different sizes depending on the colour. I got the navy & it's fine. It's surprisingly flattering for a one size item. Just a bit tricky to get off when you've been drinking Prosecco and need a wee 🤣

hby9628 · 10/05/2024 20:15

I love this too

The style attic is a brilliant website. If you follow their fb page they do lives every week which are great (although a bit long!)

Thank you so much for posting this! I have absolutely loved this thread. I am in the exact same position as you. It’s so hard to find clothes to fit a body you don’t know that well yet. I have found cider quite good for work stuff but haven’t found much summer stuff on there.

Bey · 10/05/2024 22:22

Haven't read the full thread but highly recommend 2 influencers that refer to themselves as mid size influencers. Carys Whittaker and Lucy Jane wood. They both do YouTube and instagram posts on how they dress and I think are around size 14 I find I get a lot of inspiration from them on what to wear

Woofie7 · 10/05/2024 22:54

M and s have loads of dresses. As have white stuff . The chub rub shorts from snag are good .
nice cotton trousers . T shirts .
I’ve gone to an 18 from a 12 and menopausal it’s hard to loose .
I think you can go for anything you find comfy . Maybe navy bottoms or denim look bottoms . Look on line at white stuff their bottoms come up roomy and m and s . Also next in line.
be comfy that’s important
this dress is so comfy .

where did that dress come from woofie?

DumpedByText · 11/05/2024 08:46

I'm a 14 bottom 16 top, I swear by magic pants in summer colours and a loose floaty top. I am 55 though!

SecondHandFurniture · 11/05/2024 08:47

I'm a booby 12 and I love the Lucy & Yak Alexa trousers, rolled, with a belt. Then a tucked in t shirt and as per a pp, decent bra.

I also wear cropped jeans, well-cut long t-shirt dresses (need to try on really), and midi dresses. Most of mine are older Joules via Vinted.

hby9628 · 11/05/2024 09:07

@Bey thanks for those influencer recommendations. I've just had a look and I love Carys. I'm currently going through a phase of trying to learn to love my body rather than fight to lose weight & worry that I've got a tummy & wobbly bits and she talks a lot of sense.

Aw you're so welcome yes she's lovely I've found her really helpful for all that. Lucy's written a book recently so a lot of her posts are about that recently but if you look through her YouTube her older stuff is a lot of midsize try ons and hauls

tetralaw · 12/05/2024 16:40

I really like " Its Courtney Hamilton " on fb.
She's having fab style imo.
