The art of walking in high heels

This is a call, ladies (and anyone else who dons heels).

Help a girl out. I find myself in the situation where I have to frock up and attend a ball. Now, I love a beautiful ball gown as much as the next wannabe princess, however I CANNOT walk in heels!

Any tips or advice? Do I suck it up and just 'practice'? How do y'all walk in them? I teeter around like a deer learning to walk and it is not a good look. Why can't I walk in heels???

Dont do it. Its stupid to impede yourself for the titillation of men. And dangerous and damaging, and costs the NHS million. And looks pathetic.

So what am I supposed to wear, then? If I could wear flip flops or runners, I would!

where something you are comfortable in, and not going to injure yourself in. Who cares if they dont have a heel?

Millions?

LipstickedPowderedAndPainted · 02/05/2024 01:24

How about a block heel with a small platform?

Still got the height and heel element but easier to walk in and more comfortable if you're aren't used to heels.

I've not heard of a block heel before. Thanks. I will have a look

Millions?

yes, millions. Why would that surprise you? they do damage to the muscles and tendons in legs, as well as all the accidents they cause. One of the biggest avoidable causes of visits to A and E, as well as all the long term problems

Block heels are easy to walk in

Look at Esska or New Look

However try on a few heels even spiky stilettos and you'll find a pair you can walk in

I remember borrowing some Kick Ass heels years ago and they were comfy to stride in and i felt very strong feminine and empowered.

I'm not really a heels girl but for one night or day they're usually ok.

OverlyInv · 02/05/2024 01:32

To walk in them you sort of need to lean back a bit to find the right balance.

Then imagine a string pulling you up from your spine age neck to keep you straight

Do don't be tempted to lean forwards

Peasnbeans · 02/05/2024 01:34

Try a low heeled shoe but with a platform - you're taller, but not so spindly or tilted.
But I agree - break out and wear loafers.

OverlyInv · 02/05/2024 01:44

How about these

Not too high

Besides a block heel, depending on what you’re wearing a kitten heel is easier to manage.

Heliss · 02/05/2024 06:39

Block heel and platform. I've worn many types of heels over the decades, these are far and away the most comfortable.

I’d wobble like a newborn foal in those.

PiggieWig · 02/05/2024 08:52

I always find if there’s some support to the front of the foot they are easier to walk in. And put your weight on your heels rather than the ball of your foot.
Never higher than three inches for me.

ladygindiva · 02/05/2024 08:54

I can't walk in heels, or even wedges or block heels. I'd be wearing something like these.

Hit send too soon. I can’t walk in heels either OP.

I go for sparkly flats or a delicate wedge sandal which give extra balance.

Startingagainandagain · 02/05/2024 08:58

There are nice flat shoes that you can wear like ballet pump types.

It is silly to force yourself to wear heels. You will feel uncomfortable the whole evening and won't enjoy the occasion and for what?

Because some men and fashion designer have randomly decided women look better in heels? that's just nonsense.

Monkey44 · 02/05/2024 09:00

I second block heels. Much more comfortable!

TheLeadbetterLife · 02/05/2024 09:00

What kind of a ball is it? Will there be dancing? If you wear a floor-length gown no-one will see the shoes anyway, so you can wear some pretty flats or low heels.

Jokl · 02/05/2024 09:02

The only heels I’ll tolerate these days are lowish block heels. I’d say to look at those!
