A very specific shape of top

Hi, this might be a bit of a long shot, but I am looking for tops with a very specific shape, which happen to be flattering to my body shape as well as suiting my "style" (if I have such a thing!).

Basically I am short with very big boobs and a bit of a tummy, but slim legs and arms. I like to wear slim or skinny jeans, but need to hide the tum, so can't wear a short top and I like tunics or longline type tops.

What really suits me is a tunic top with a bit of a "tuck"/seam in the front which stops the front of the top from just falling straight down from the boobs and making it look as though I have an even bigger tummy than I do. White Stuff used to do lots like that but don't seem to any more. (I also usually only like floral or other pattern, not plain tops). I attach a picture of one I bought on EBay recently which is just right on except for the fact that I would prefer long or 3/4 sleeves if possible.

I am reduced to constantly trawling through EBay to find second hand White Stuff ones when I can. I have looked all over for similar tops but can't find any anywhere else. If anyone had any ideas...

PS if you think my taste is terrible and this type of top is awful, that's fine, just scroll on by!

PS not talking about a top that tucks in UNDER the boobs" That would make me look huge!

Hey OP, if you have found a particular style that really works for you, have you thought of going to a seamstress and have a few made for you? You can choose the fabric etc, it is not as expensive as one would think it is. If you happen to holiday in countries like Spain, Greece and Portugal, take your best top with you and you will easily find someone local to replicate the top in the fabric you want.

Thanks for the replies! The green floral with pintucks is a bit wide at the bottom, and I don't really like pintucks, but the other looks a possibility. I might order it and see.

I holiday somewhere where there is no dressmaking, unfortunately! I could see if I can find a seamstress here (I live in Ireland).

Adini might also be worth a look, although they are quite pricey!
Good luck!

HesterPrincess · 01/05/2024 15:46

Seconding Adini, these work really well on me.

Also Taking Shape, an Australian brand but they also sell in the UK - I've got so many tops from there.

Seasalt but you need to look carefully before ordering - they also have an Ebay outlet that I buy far too much from.

That Mistral one looks just right, I have ordered (and they deliver to Ireland). Will se how it fits!

How about 'bubble hem' tops? They have elastic round the bottom bringing the top in and stopping the hang from the boobs (which I also 'suffer' with).

Try Seasalt & Fat Face.

I used to get loads like that from Manteray at Debenhams.

I love the Joules tunic dresses, I have a few of them but they are mostly long sleeved. I tend to look on ebay for them. They are fitted at the bust and then sort of flow out but not too much. They hide my tum.

tetralaw · 01/05/2024 16:00

Op I think the cut what you are describing is called: fit and flare.

Zebracat · 01/05/2024 16:59

There is a trick you can do with a hair bobble where you make a little knot on the inside of the tunic where you need the gather. I can’t describe it but I can do it so it must be easy, and it just stops the tent thing.I like a lot of these tunics.

BareBelliedSneetch · 01/05/2024 17:01

I have some Joe browns ones that sort of shape.

theDudesmummy · 01/05/2024 19:28

Wow, so many helpful replies, thank you so much! Have not got time to go through them all in detail now but will do so tomorrow! Such helpful people!

That is very White Stuff imo. If there's nothing in the current collection have a look on vinted.

Perfectpots · 01/05/2024 19:47

Coming on to say that I've also seen Joe Brown tops in that shape.
