I have found an old Prada bag charm that I will be digging out as well as whatever key rings or charms I can find. It’s a bit of fun.

Yep, they're back. There's an article about them in The Times Style section today. I might tie a scarf on a handle but that'll be as far as I'd go. I've never really felt the love for the bag charm idea. Monkeys hanging from bags even less.

You could literally do it for not much at all with key rings that you have lying around etc. It’s a bit of fun.

Just remembered I have a lovely key ring I've never used. Now I have a use for it!

Fun? Having charms in a bag? Each to their own but it's a tacky look regardless of cost.

MayYourToastLandButterSideUp · 28/04/2024 08:32

No, they look naff.

Churchview · 28/04/2024 08:57

They remind me of the four hundred fluffy gonks my mum used to have hanging on her mobility scooter.

Rocknrollstar · 28/04/2024 08:58

There’s an article in today’s Sunday Times about how bag charms are back. I’m sure there will be loads on sale to tart up existing bags.

Girlwithapple · 28/04/2024 09:09

My friend got my a lovely one last time they were in fashion, I wonder if I still have it somewhere 🤔

The last time I heard a bag charm was walking my dog and there was a lady walking ahead of us. I could see her bag charm bouncing away and it was jingling, a bit like the sound of a cat collar with a bell...... My dog was trying to speed up to see if she had a cat in her bag 😂

I just imagine marketing people sitting around trying to think of something, anything they can try and flog to people who don’t need anything but like shopping.

Also, lipstick holders, phone charms.

My thoughts exactly, how much more of our well earned money can they get. It’s all Emperors new clothes.

Fernie6491 · 28/04/2024 10:02

No - just another load of unnecessary junk to date very quickly 😄

It's no different to jewellery really. It's just that you put it on a bag rather than yourself.

SevenSeasOfRhye · 28/04/2024 10:04

Oooh, I've got loads of these from last time they were in fashion 😁

hornsofahugedilemma · 28/04/2024 10:17

They remind me of those ridiculous purse bells that some elderly women have attached to their purses, meant to be a deterrent to having it stolen, as recommended by Age UK at one time. Only trouble is, as someone in the police told me, they're as good as sounding a klaxon that says vulnerable older woman carrying cash. (And if they're anything like MIL, too deaf to hear the damn things!).

TheDandyLion · 28/04/2024 10:21

If I was a handbag type of person I'd have them because I think they look great but my lifestyle is more bookish cotton tote or rucksack.

LineMadeByWalking · 28/04/2024 10:25

No. They come from the same aesthetic as furry dice hanging from your rear mirror.

DodoTired · 28/04/2024 10:28

Ugh

DyslexicPoster · 28/04/2024 10:28

I love a pom-pom charm but anything cranky I sound the crypt keeper with my keys. Or a jailer

Oh fgs. Get a grip. I'm mainly a Times reader, occasionally a Guardian reader. Occasionally The Daily Mail.

What do you think happens if you read a Mail link?

One thing, that might actually happen is you will see reports of crimes affecting women and children which other papers don't even bother reporting.

Calm down. Some people just like to be aware and it wasn't obvious. Jeez.

I guess, if you’re a teenager…

FortunataTagnips · 28/04/2024 11:24

No. I’m not 8.

AnnieSF · 28/04/2024 11:27

I can't believe this is back again. I recall buying fake monkeys for my son in Thailand and that was 22 years ago!!
