Do you get nicely dressed to stay at home?

Or just to take DC out? Someone I follow is all dressed up in her sezane outfits just to stay at home with the DC and bake cakes. I panic when I see her expensive, silky shirt potentially getting dirty with chocolate, I only keep my nice clothes for the office and nice going out occasions. This made me wonder whether I should generally make more of an effort as on days when I WFH or just take DC to the park, I don’t bother with makeup, doing hair etc and I just wear a pair of jeans and cheap sweatshirt. I’d like to move away from this mentality of “wasting” nice things if I wear them for every day occasions but really struggle.
Do you use your nicest and more expensive clothes to be home or for day to day stuff?

Haha, is that Manon LaGreve? I often wonder the same but she does have a following to impress and I expect Sezane pay her handsomely for promoting their products.

Ladyprehensile · 24/04/2024 18:42

I don’t do anything domestic/cooking/vacuuming etc in my silk shirts or decent trousers but on a day to day basis I do colour co-ordinate, wear lipstick and a bit of bling. Before I go downstairs, I check my appearance in a full length mirror.

Old habits die hard and I’m told, quite randomly, that I “always look nice.”

Those silk and cashmere items do indeed come out when I go out.

bevelino · 24/04/2024 18:45

On my days off, I do put make up on and wear decent clothes as it makes me feel better about myself.

Meadowfinch · 24/04/2024 18:48

No. I get dressed & made up because I could be called onto a video call at any time. But I tend to dress to be warm, rather than smart. All of our company does the same. Good clothes are reserved for office days or going out.

In the summer, I'm generally better dressed.

GettingStuffed · 24/04/2024 18:49

Remember that not everything someone does online bears in any way what their life is really like. I went out today and wore velvet trousers with a slavia Praha ice hockey hoodie.

CheerfulBunny · 24/04/2024 18:51

I do, although I wear slightly more casual stuff these days. I always wear make up and perfume but I've always been that way. I feel weird if I don't. You know if I'm REALLY ill if I'm not wearing any make up 😄I do get comments - not always kind..
My mum and grandma were always smartly turned out (never saw either of them in jeans) so maybe that's where it comes from?

Shetlands · 24/04/2024 18:54

She's not getting all dressed up just to stay home and bake cakes! She's getting all dressed up for social media. I bet when she's not on camera she's wearing trackies covered in snot and cereal while crying over the mess her kids have just made.

vincettenoir · 24/04/2024 18:55

I dress very casually. But I am quite cut-throat about getting rid of anything that is ill-fitting or uncomfortable or unflattering. I don't want to feel bad about what I'm wearing, even when I'm at home on my own.

iamwhatiam23 · 24/04/2024 18:55

Absolutely not! Especially if im cleaning or cooking! I would love to be one of those women who always looks stylish and put together ( even in their slobbing clothes) but im not! My nice clothes are only for wearing out!

Crushed23 · 24/04/2024 18:58

I have started wearing nice clothes and a bit of make up even when I’m spending the day by myself.

It’s basically taking myself out for a date.

I did this in Paris last week and ordered champagne and everything, was lush. 🥰

MiddleParking · 24/04/2024 19:00

I don’t, but I would if it was how I earned money. Maybe the reason you feel like this is because people like Manon LaGreve are obligated, for consumer regulations that are for our benefit and not theirs, to make it clear that what you’re watching is advertising, but they often choose to ignore those obligations because it suits them better financially and they don’t care about you even a tiny bit.

Lily193 · 24/04/2024 19:00

My clothes are bought to be enjoyed so I wear them day to day regardless of cost.

Same here. I always shower and put on make up, even if I’m WFH or not going anywhere, and my comfy clothes are quite presentable. It makes me feel better

Somethingsgotthagive · 24/04/2024 20:19

Yes, it was Manon La Greve😝 She swears that’s how she looks like every day regardless of her agenda. I appreciate it might not be true of course but made me think that all my nicer clothes are cherished for when I am
not with DC (more likely to get dirty or ripped whilst playing etc) and going out

Yes, I wear nice stuff every day. Today was a silk top, cashmere cardi, smart jeans, coordinating trainers. Jewellery.

Hair always clean / styled and always a bit of makeup.

It makes me feel much better.

I’d happily bake in a silk blouse. Why not?

motleymop · 24/04/2024 20:43

I wish. But with two small children everything I wear ends up getting ripped at the knees from constantly bending down, covered in food/sick/whatever. I look terrible at home. Also don't have the money to spend on decent loungewear.

Every day is a special day. I don’t rock a ball gown but I dress nicely and make an effort. Why not?

Chillilounger · 24/04/2024 20:48

I WFH full time so yes I do get dressed up everyday. Also mostly in the holidays. I like clothes and makeup and like looking good.

NavyPeer · 24/04/2024 20:52

but she isn’t just staying at home? she’s dressing up for social media. They may have gone to brunch in the morning or be out to meet friends. She seems to get out and about daily.

if I was literally not leaving the house- of course I would just wear a crusty pair of tracksuit bottoms that could get stained with bleach spray and I bet manom probably does too but they are much more expensive crusty tracksuits

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 24/04/2024 20:53

If I am just knocking around the house on a day off, no. Then it’s loungewear. I do get properly dressed in nice clothes/jewellery/makeup to WFH though as I am often on camera and I just feel better, more professional. I’m not in silk blouses though! Today was a Cos wool cardigan, Levi’s jeans, an Anine Bing tee, big chunky wool socks, and Birkenstock Bostons, with some gold hoops and a gold chain necklace.

AndBeyond · 24/04/2024 21:29

My love for wearing beautiful clothes is eclipsed by my love of not being cold all the time. So I'm always in jeans or trousers, socks, boots, a long sleeved tshirt and a sweater.

My problem is that when I dress up, I tend to go for dresses or shirts which I freeze in. My office is really cold, so can't live that way 😩 😂

I do agree with not saving your nicest clothes for special occasions, but I think I need to stop buying pretty dresses and buy more warm stuff. Does jeans and a jumper ever look really great though 🤔?

Manon claims not to own any sweatpants but who knows? She has a very nice life - lovely kids, free clothes, paid for holidays, rich husband - but that is pretty much how every influencer likes to present themselves!

Shes a bit smug though - I didn’t like how she said she and her husband can go on child-free dates because of the “life choices” they’ve made. That was a bit tone deaf. But I guess in her position we’d be smug too!
