is it now ok to wear bootcut jeans?

Hi everyone
Always loved bootcut jeans as they look so much better on my pear shape as the bottom bit balances my wide hips out - but skinnies have been the norm for so long and finally I am seeing wider jeans in the shops!
Apparently the younger generation are totally into the wider jeans look and rejecting skinnies, but would I look silly wearing the bootcut wider look, as I am older than them, but at the same time, my pear shaped figure looks better in them, than skinnies?
I guess I dont want to look like a mutton dressed as lamb, dressing in a jeans trend that is now for the twenty something, but I know my pear shape would look better in the wider jeans look! Thanks for your advice

Who cares what other people think? You like bootcut, you feel they suit your shape - wear them! I know from having adult children that they really don’t pay us lot older than them any heed at all…and if you are thinking about teens judging, well they judge everything lol.

The best style for you is your style, no-one else’s.

Yes go for it. I’ve bought 3 pairs of bootcut jeans recently!

Mairzydotes · 22/04/2024 19:59

I like bootcut / flare type jeans too. I don't care if they look dated.

cointos · 22/04/2024 20:02

I bought some bootcut jeans last year because I couldn't bring myself to buy those straight legged mum jeans. They're so comfy I couldn't care less what I look like anymore. I was probably one of the last women who switched to skinnies and I forgot why I hated them so much.

ItsallIeverwanted · 22/04/2024 20:07

Bootcuts, or rather flares, are back in! In fact, you can wear pretty much any type of jeans you like, I wouldn't personally wear super-skinny like sausage legs, but anything else goes...my late teens/early twenty daughters wear flares/boot cut for a hippie vibe and the young ones all wear low waisted and show off their stomachs, but that's not for me!

BrieHugger · 22/04/2024 20:09

I love my flarey bootcuts in summer, they look so much better with sandals or trainers than skinnies do. Skinnies more in winter with boots. I’m delighted to see them in shops again, but I wish they weren’t all high waisted.

RickyGervaislovesdogs · 22/04/2024 20:11

Bootcut is now in.
Personally hate skinny jeans, I don’t think they look good on anyone and seem so uncomfortable.

Vivfor60 · 22/04/2024 20:15

Bootcut is in. I have the Eva jeans mentioned here, they are more mid rise than high rise @BrieHugger

Eta: as my user name suggests I am 60. No one has commented negatively on my boot cuts so far @battenburg100 !

Thank you!! I miss Gap “long and leans” the most (I’m no longer as long or lean as I once was, but they were my go to for a good decade or so!)

Arrestedmanevolence · 22/04/2024 20:21

I've bought 2 pairs of bootcut this week because I'm 5ft 4, size 12 and can't do wide leg without looking like a massive tree. Bootcut balance me out.

Ifonlyiweretaller · 22/04/2024 21:28

I wear Levi flares to balance my hourglass figure and have never felt as confident in a style of jeans. I don't care if they're fashion or not I feel good in them.
However was told by a bunch of girlfriends at the weekend that skinnies are coming back in! I think they've only been off trend for about a year, since boyfriends /moms /carrot leg / barrel leg came in, so hardly a skinnies revolution!

nothingsforgotten · 22/04/2024 21:43

Just wear them!! I never stopped and I couldn't care less what other people think, and I'm 64. I have never noticed anyone staring aghast at me in my jeans, and I would rather wear something which I like and which looks good on me than worry about whether or not I should be wearing them.

2Old2Tango · 22/04/2024 21:48

That's the benefit of getting older (I'm 60), I just don't care what other people think anymore. If something is comfortable and I think it suits me then I wear it. Don't be a slave to fashion or worry about other people's opinions.

Blueuggboots · 22/04/2024 22:16

I've been wearing bootcut jeans for 20 jeans and I couldn't give a flying fuck whether they're in or not. I like them and they suit me.

If you like them, wear them!!

lindyloo57 · 22/04/2024 22:24

I love bootcut, I think they fit better than wide leg as they still fit like skinnies around the bum and hips. The flares are to wide and baggie for my petite frame

Floisme · 22/04/2024 22:26

I'm wearing my old Gap Long n' Leans now! In truth they're a bit lower waisted than I like but, that aside, they might just be my favourite jeans ever.

Floisme · 22/04/2024 22:27

I like fashion too though so you shouldn't really be taking notice of me.

AnnieSnap · 23/04/2024 01:20

Bootcuts are a great shape on most women. I love them and I wear them.

coxesorangepippin · 23/04/2024 02:27

I love boot cuts

They even out my fat thighs

Meadowfinch · 23/04/2024 02:41

Of course. You should wear styles that suit YOU, not slavishly follow the crowd.

Skinnies only really look good on very slim people, so if you are more curvy, go with something you feel comfortable & confident in. It will look better immediately.

KeinLiebeslied54321 · 23/04/2024 03:40

I tend to wear baggy or bootcut, or even cargo, these days, ideally a decent heightof waist. I did wear skinny for a while but I'm not sure why tbh - maybe just because everybody was. I don't really follow fashion, but I love that the styles of my teens/twenties are reappeaing though.

Realdeal1 · 23/04/2024 06:18

Can bootcut work with trainers? I had the Eva but felt I had to take them up. I'm 5ft 6

I only wear my bootcut jeans with trainers as I don’t actually like the look of them on me with other shoes. I have to buy petite / short though and they’re fine but I am short!

Pashazade · 23/04/2024 07:31

Wear what looks good on you. Honestly who gives a toss if it's current. Everything cycles so fast these days it's an utter waste of resources trying to keep up. Just do you in a way that makes you feel good. You don't need anybody's permission.

OldTinHat · 23/04/2024 07:56

I'm 52 and have only ever worn bootcut. You couldn't get me in a pair of skinnies for love nor money.
