Wear what you like

SocksAndTheCity · 21/04/2024 22:11

I bought my first pair of Converse at 16 and I still wear them at 51, so I'd agree they're ageless. Not that it matters, since nobody is 'too old' to wear anything.

I do remember they were so expensive in the 80's I wore that first pair until the soles had big holes in them (and then I wore them some more, but not when it was raining) Smile

I live in London and go out a lot and I have never seen anyone who looks over 40 wearing converse - apart fro me - hence the question - I look at everyone's shoes when out and about.

This is the one I have atm

I work in London some of the time, although I live elsewhere and I was there the other week in my converse and will be there this week in my converse

Im 40 this year

So at least you know there are (sometimes) 2 of us

Touty · 21/04/2024 22:19

I think they are awful - nothing to do with age.

That wasn't the question.

I wore Converse until I was 35, when the catastrophic plantar fasciitis they'd given me came home to roost and I threw them all out. So I'd say they're only suitable for the under 30s.

From a purely aesthetic POV, rather than as shoes, they're a Gen X classic, so most appropriate for people age 45-60....as long as they're not planning to walk anywhere.

I’m sorry to hear that, what kind of shoes you wear now?

ASICS, Fitflops, Tevas in the summer for casual wear and just normal decent quality brogues/loafers/boots/heels for work.

Basically anything that's not dead flat.

Over 50 here and wish I could afford Converse! I have a couple of pairs from when I was younger but unfortunately Ive gone up a shoe size and cant wear them comfortably anymore.
But I do have cheaper versions and usually wear baseball boots or tennis shoes.
(unlike the previous poster I get less foot issues if I wear dead flat shoes!).

You may find some good second hand on Vinted. No way could I spend £90 on a pair!

The converse website has some good pairs on sale, starts from £30.
Keep checking.

No!

Elizabeth1924 · 28/06/2024 14:32

Converse - you're never too old - I bought my first pair earlier this year, and I'm 76! They're comfy and go with jeans, dresses etc and look smart.

MidnightMeltdown · 28/06/2024 19:04

Everyone I know who wears converse was born in the 1970s or earlier. They are not a young persons style.

TheRainItRaineth · 28/06/2024 19:22

My 17 year old daughter (very interested in fashion/style/clothes) wears Converse almost every day!

No I’ve got some and I’m much older than you!
