To buy or not to buy, that is the question.

I dont really get Orla Kiely. they are all a bit too 'Orla Kiely' for my liking. But if you like it, go for it!

expatinscotland · 30/03/2008 22:05

which one?

expatinscotland · 30/03/2008 22:06

they all look that same, though.

hana · 30/03/2008 22:06

MaryAnnSingleton · 30/03/2008 22:06

flowerbox, maxi sling, in grey, that's what you should get

LynetteScavo · 30/03/2008 22:08

The multi stem is fugly, hana????

OP posts:
hana · 30/03/2008 22:08

sorry, I think so
oops, you dont? is a bit in your face

artichokes · 30/03/2008 22:09

DH got me an Orla Kiely after I had DD because I needed a bigger handbag and one that could withstand some hardwearing. I love it.

Buy, buy, buy, buy.

hana · 30/03/2008 22:10

what size did you get artichokes?
have been wanting one for a while

LynetteScavo · 30/03/2008 22:11

Well, I am asking to get your opinions, so maybe not the muti stem....., but I do want a sling bag for when I'm out with DCs.

BearMama · 30/03/2008 22:12

They are overpriced and cheaply made. The classic bag used to be about £70 and MUCH better made. The oilcloth was thicker, the shape was better, they lasted longer...

I've seen this design on eBay, better buy from there or get an older one. I say this as a former OK devotee who still uses her existing bags but wouldn't buy new.

expatinscotland · 30/03/2008 22:12

are they leather?

hana · 30/03/2008 22:13

nope,not leather

artichokes · 30/03/2008 22:15

Hana - mine is the shoulder bag. It is the perfet size. Not too big but big enough for wallet, phone, make-up, a few nappies, some wipes, a bottle and a packet of DD's favourite rice cakes. I have had it 18 months and it has worn really well.

LynetteScavo · 30/03/2008 22:15

They are oil cloth, expat.

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 30/03/2008 22:17

Oh. No, not for that amount of money.

LynetteScavo · 30/03/2008 22:27

Thanks for the advice, Bear Mama.

I really want one, but they are overpriced. Which I think is part of the atraction. If they were £10, I probably wouldn't want one.

pootleflump · 30/03/2008 22:37

Definitely get one! I have 3 and desperate for another from the new collection.

The new multi-stem is gorgeous and so is the flower box print in green. These are the 2 I'm struggling to choose between.

Every single time I use one of my Orla Kiely's someone compliments it.

You need one.

BearMama · 30/03/2008 22:39

True LS!
Really, if they were made as well as they used to be, they MIGHT be worth it.
A so-called vintage one goes for £40-£50 on eBay, speaks volumes for what people think of the present ones.

soapbox · 30/03/2008 22:43

I am a real handbag 'fan', but Orla Kiely is horrid!

It's a bit like a muted version of a Cath Kidson number - blousy and no knickers

There are loads of wonderful handbag brands that are a lot more classy that these

OllieWollieWoo · 31/03/2008 09:17

I've brought 2 off ebay - still pricey but worth it. One is still going after 3 years of use. Word of caution tho - I brought one which didn't have a zip fastening - just a magnetic clasp and it caused all sorts of problems with things like bank cards and parking tickets if I just threw them in the bag rather than putting back in wallet (you know what its like if the supermarket when the little ones are kicking off at the checkout etc etc???!!!). It wiped the data off them or something - I went thro 3 bank cards before I realised the problem! Dur! So now I always go for the ones with a zip.

One more thing - Jules Clothing have a nice bag for a lot less money (£30 or around that price) - similar style to OK but has a circle print - I especially like the turquoise one!

Tutter · 31/03/2008 09:18

ah but what you really need is a pink and furry bag

eh aitch?

bamamama · 31/03/2008 11:01

I have a midi sling which I bought after ds arrived and I needed to cart around loads of stuff. It's wearing really well, and I get loads of compliments for it. (mine isn't at all flowery and Kiely-est though IYSWIM)

Ebay is better to buy from, mine was about 80 quid I think.
