Help me choose my new trainers - Boden/Nike Air

I’m 40 this month, smart casual office and will wear them out too. Which do you prefer?

Boden option:

Nikes look awesome irl - saw someone on the tube wearing these and fell in love:

I’ve been obsessed with the Nikes but I like the Boden ones as they’re are a lot cheaper, sleeker, and there’s no obvious branding + no canvas upper.

Please suggest alternatives if you hate them both.

I much prefer the Boden ones - they look much nicer and more classy. No heavy branding and also a nice metallic touch which is very in fashion at the minute

pambeesleyhalpert · 14/04/2024 21:42

Nikes as they are the comfiest shoes ever

Infectiousdisease · 14/04/2024 21:44

Cripes they're both a bit bling! Prefer the Boden ones but yes sure Nike more comfortable. That's a lot of shoe you're getting there though and not necessarily in a good way

waterproofed · 14/04/2024 21:44

Thanks @goldenretrievermum5 - I’m leaning towards the Boden ones too especially as my style is elegant/classy more than it is sporty, though I do think the Nike’s are cooler.

The Boden ones do have a whiff of Henley regatta about them, but maybe I should not fight against that.

Haha, for sure @Infectiousdisease - but my style is not exactly subtle. Mob wife aesthetic appeals to me far more than I’d care to admit but work is very corporate.

I’m not feeling a lot of love for my choices -
any cooler alternatives?

I know - that’s the dilemma! But it also rains so much where I live that I had to machine wash my cream Skechers twice in the last two weeks so I feel that I’ll wreck the Nike’s in no time.

The Boden ones are boring. Go for the Nike.

Pammela2 · 14/04/2024 21:51

I much prefer the Nikes! The Boden ones are a bit meh.

I think you should buy things that you love, and if you love the Nikes then you’ll wear them more.

they’d be cool with smart, slack trousers and T shirts or with satin midi skirts.

Both awful.

Words to live by. Satin skirt/trainers is a combo I’ve been trying to nail, maybe these are the key to nailing this look:

with a plain silk t shirt and grey herringbone blazer.

THE STYLING DUTCHMAN.: Satin bias cut skirt with chunky sneakers

I don't like the Boden ones. They're trying to hard be Adidas Samba so they just look a bit off.

The Nike look much better IMO.

noonesayscheese · 14/04/2024 22:22

Bodens look, and I know they're not, it's just the metallic illusion, pointy. The chunkiness of the Nikes will be a perfect balance with skirts, trousers, leggings. The slimness of the Bodens, I think, will not balance as well, and may not pair as well with an outfit. But you got to go with your gut.

waterproofed · 14/04/2024 22:25

Nike’s it is, thanks all - I enjoyed that.

@JaneKatSuttonGoals thank you - really love the green Gola’s, they’ve gone on the wish list.

Don't like leopard print generally but 100% the Nikes with those two options. I like the style of them and they are much cooler. I really don't like the Boden ones at all.

HummingbirdChandelier · 14/04/2024 22:31

Never ever buy Boden trainers

WhereAreWeNow · 14/04/2024 23:06

Nike. Great trainers. I find Nikes really comfortable too.

Moonshine5 · 14/04/2024 23:13

No to Boden.
Rethink the leopard print. My two penneth.

CheapThrillsMeanNothing · 14/04/2024 23:56

@waterproofed the Boden ones look too flat. I think the Nikes will be more comfortable.

Shuttheblinds · 14/04/2024 23:58

If you like the leopard print look at the New Balance ones too, subtle but lovely
