Help me choose my new trainers - Boden/Nike Air

I’m 40 this month, smart casual office and will wear them out too. Which do you prefer?

Boden option:

Nikes look awesome irl - saw someone on the tube wearing these and fell in love:

I’ve been obsessed with the Nikes but I like the Boden ones as they’re are a lot cheaper, sleeker, and there’s no obvious branding + no canvas upper.

Please suggest alternatives if you hate them both.

Nike definitely. Boden version looks very boring.

Ruthietuthie · 15/04/2024 03:04

Go for the Nike ones. It's a particular look, so really go for it. The Boden ones are just a bit half-hearted. They also look far less comfortable.
I couldn't carry them off, but if I saw you wearing them I would think you were cool.

TypicalTypo · 15/04/2024 05:00

Not keen on the Borden ones, the soles make them look a bit like bowling shoes.

I really like Addidas or onitsuka, but I prefer their lower profile. Not sure if either of them have any animal print colourways

these would be my pick for fancy type trainers

The Nikes are much better!

After a number of regretful purchases of trainers I now only buy from a proper trainer manufacturer.

Nike, New Balance know how to make trainers, Boden, Dune, KG don't.

Globules · 15/04/2024 06:22

I bought a pair of trainers home with a little bit of leopard print on to try on with an outfit.

My 17 yr old daughter's got a great sense of what looks good on me, her and others and I trust her judgement. Her response was "mum, you're in your 40s, not your 80s. Leave the leopard print trainers alone for at least 40 years"

Up to you if you want to look in your 80s.

waitingforthedrain · 15/04/2024 07:03

The new balance ones are so comfy and stylish. I've literally not worn anything else since I got mine

Foxlovesfruit · 15/04/2024 07:57

I love Boden clothing but their trainers don’t compare. They always look better in the picture, shape-wise, and seem bigger fitting too. twice I’ve bought their trainers and twice sent back.

pandp · 15/04/2024 08:39

The Nike ones, they look great

waterproofed · 15/04/2024 09:04

Thanks for all your suggestions, love a lot of these.

@PepsiMaxLime thanks for your feedback - above all, I’d say my sense of style is eclectic. Wardrobe consistency is detrimental to my sense of having fun with fashion.

Team Nike here - I think they’re lovely!

Haha, I love it. I have a DD exactly like that too. I hope she hates them.

Damn right I want to look in my 80s.

I have 3 pairs of Boden trainers and I struggle to wear them for long as they are soooo uncomfortable, really heavy and tight in the toes as well.
To be fair I do have fat feet though

Deargodletitgo · 15/04/2024 09:55

Love the Nikes, but just bought some ultraviolet puma palemos so can't justify another pair.

Definitely the Nikes or new balance though, boden look too mummy at school gate. And yes, I'm a school run mum at 50 🤣

Are 80 year olds known for wearing leopard print? 😂 My mum's 77 and wouldn't be seen dead in it, she was a 60s hippy.

I was going to suggest the Gola ones someone already suggested. I feel like the Nike ones are too sporty looking for a smart/casual office? I've never tried Boden trainers, but whenever I've ordered their shoes/boots before they've always bene really uncomfortable.

Why do teenagers think they own style over older people?

ChristmasLightsLover · 15/04/2024 10:31

Nikes will be much more comfortable. I've tried Boden trainers a number of times over the years and they just aren't supportive enough.

Terraz · 15/04/2024 10:35

Absolutely love the Nikes. I have a pair (not the leopard print) and they are so unbelievably comfy and they look good with everything.

the adidas superstar ones linked up thread are a good option if your office is too formal for the Nikes.

Love that age, I also had all the answers and all the confidence to back them up when I was 17.

Looking 80 is my main style aim atm 😉

I would definitely go with the Nikes. Boden shoes always look lovely but are so uncomfortable.

Elebag · 15/04/2024 11:39

The Nike ones are better.

The boden ones look cheap and flat, horrible for walking and dashing around in.

Stainglasses · 15/04/2024 11:53

The Nikes!

but if you are worried they will get dirty then wear darker Nikes until the mud / rain abates. I tend to wear Nike airs or new balance in black until it’s hot and then white supergas.
