How often do you brush your hair?

My hair's a mess.

I brush it once in the morning then that's it (unless I'm going out). But I don't keep tending to it during the day. I've naively assumed that everyone does this so I thought I'd ask...

How often do you brush, comb, re-style your hair during the day?

Is yours very fine? Mines always messy because even a light breeze and it tangles. I try to keep it up but it’s boring. 😒

dimllaishebiaith · 13/04/2024 12:17

I only comb mine when I was it, but it's curly so its a bit different

caringcarer · 13/04/2024 12:20

Usually twice a day. First thing in the morning then again before I go out. I keep a hairbrush in the car too because I've got long hair and if it's windy it can look a mess.

VenetiaHallisWellPosh · 13/04/2024 12:20

Twice a day. Once in the morning, and once before I go to bed.

It's usually up in a ponytail though. It's thick & frizzy hair.

If it's down, more like four times a day.

Elephantswillnever · 13/04/2024 12:20

I’m like you but suspect I’m on the slovenly end. If I’m working I’ll often pin it up in a French twist so it’s out the way and it doesn’t matter if it’s a bit blowy

MolkosTeenageAngst · 13/04/2024 12:21

I brush it most mornings but not every morning, if I’m off work and not doing much or if I’m on holiday and forget my brush (a frequent occurrence) I can happily go a week without brushing. My hair is mid-length (a bit below shoulders) and very straight, running my fingers through it is usually enough to get out any tangles.

henlake7 · 13/04/2024 12:21

Probably about 4-6 times a day (depending on how windy it is!).
Mines down in a messy bob though so it does its own thing most of the time.

PostHummus · 13/04/2024 12:22

Never, but I have a very short pixie cut.

Waitingfordoggo · 13/04/2024 12:22

Once- if I remember. To be quite honest, my hair has its own life and its own ideas, so me brushing it makes little difference to how it looks. Wild and bushy is the general look.

BusterGonad · 13/04/2024 12:24

Usually when I wash it, which is probably once every 5 to 7 days. It's thick and wavy and is dry rather than greasy. If I brush it more often it goes frizzy.

Expo23 · 13/04/2024 12:24

I wash, dry and straighten my hair every morning then I don't give it a second thought for the rest of the day. It never occurred to me that people were restyling as they went through the day. I am keeping an eye on this thread with interest!

MalcolmTuckersSwearBox · 13/04/2024 12:24

Medium textured, jaw length.

Usually once a day. Twice if im going out and need to smarten up beforehand. It gets greasy if I over brush it.

50Fifty · 13/04/2024 12:57

Once a week after washing.

My hair's curly so brushing is a no-no. I spray it with water and curl activator every morning to tame the frizz and bring back a bit of bounce.

RuthW · 13/04/2024 13:31

Never

I comb when wet and scrunch product in to make curly. I pin up every night and in the morning scrunch water through it.

On the rare occasionI have it straight, I blow dry and run fingers through it the next morning.

Yes, it's very fine, fly-away, frizzy AND thinning 😩. Soooo many problems 😬

Brushing it too often (or at all) is an issue because I'm menopausal and losing hair.

I need help 😂

BusterGonad · 13/04/2024 14:52

I did read that brushing it was good as it stimulates the blood flow to the scalp. I went through a phase of brushing mine daily as my hair thinned out during menopause too but I didn't see a difference and I hate brushing my hair! 😂

Heliss · 13/04/2024 17:37

Gently comb it once in the morning, or if I'm not leaving the house, not at all. I've got really fine hair that breaks easily so try not to comb it much, and never brush it.

chalkyc2 · 13/04/2024 17:59

Fine straight shoulder length hair here. I'm never far from my handbag hairbrush. I basically brush it every time I go to the bathroom or in from the wind...!

RandomUsernameHere · 13/04/2024 18:04

Twice a day, first thing and before bed

Northumberlandlass · 13/04/2024 18:05

Curly here too. Only brush when wet / when I wash it so 2 or 3 times a week.

chatw0o0 · 14/04/2024 07:29

if wearing it down, once after blow drying, a couple of times during the day and before I go to bed. Have lots of fine hair, so brushing it, gives a bit more volume when it goes flat during the day.

otherwise will brush before putting it up and then before going to bed.

DrJoanAllenby · 14/04/2024 07:44

Religiously at bedtime. It's a habit we were taught as children and it's paid off for my sisters and I as we all have long and thick hair. It used to be naturally lustrous but now we dye hair to cover greys so any shine is due to the hair dye!

Invest in a really good brush and comb and a scalp massage.

I give a quick brush in the morning h and then again when I come home from hiking with the dogs.

Good hair requires maintenance.

Janetime · 14/04/2024 07:50

Once in the morning and before bed. I may brush it again if going out or folks coming over, or if I’ve been doing something physical like gym or gardening,

WhiteLeopard · 14/04/2024 07:51

Once a day in the morning (thick shoulder length hair).

EndorsingPRActice · 14/04/2024 07:56

First thing in the morning, when I get to work, before client meetings, before going out for the evening, after anything physical / windy / messy (walks, gardening), I like tidy hair
