Big soft pants with an actual gusset

jazzchilli · 03/04/2024 19:25

I've watched the threads on here about pants for a few years now.

Like many of you I've had to abandon M&S due to the ever-shrinking gussets. My HG is the Sloggi Maxi in modal/elastane which they've now discontinued in favour of rigid/plasticky alternatives.

I've got the Wirarpa high waist knickers from Amazon and while they're definitely much better in the gusset and length, I find the material a bit too thick for the summer and sleeping in.

Has anyone found anything similar to the Wirarpas in a lighter material like modal? I think the elastane content is what actually makes pants feel lighter. I think the comfy Sloggi ones were 12% elastane 88% modal but I cut the labels out ages ago...

BTW I got these recently and the material is very soft, but they aren't high-waisted enough if you're tall. Even though I sized up when I saw they were made in China.

You could try Matryoshka Clothing on Etsy. She's been having a closing down sale, so limited sizing, but worth a shot. They're a bit bright and patterned but if you're not flashing them, it's all good!

I also wear Sloggi Tai-perfect and unchanged.

pleasecallmeback · 04/04/2024 13:06

Snag do big comfy pants but their current advertising using super plus models (male and female) has put me off the company.

Another vote for Stripe and Stare. Brilliant wide gussets.

Like what? A biscuit for later or a kilo of drugs?

😂

Albert Pendergast does clothes for the film and stage industry - classic oldskool pants socks and uniforms circa 1930's - 1960's

Never bought any , but look warm.

Another vote for JL.

I know you want Big Pants that are 'waisters' (and mine are the JL bikini briefs) but they also do 'proper pants'.

I've given up on M&S as the gusset was getting smaller and smaller and the cotton seemed to shrink in the wash.

TheCoffeeNebula · 04/04/2024 15:58

TBH I wear men's briefs (the ones without a cockhole). Bamboo ones are lovely light material. Proper fabric-covered edges, not that razor-like scalloped elastic business, and a wiiiide gusset. But then I've got a massive fanny and no arse, so they probably wouldn't suit if you haven't.

I dunno I just notice you can with some and not with others I assumed it was for pads of some kind

Is it for biscuits/drugs?

starfishmummy · 04/04/2024 16:38

@LatteLady I agree - I have just started buying some of these (and similar pairs they have singly,) having got fed up with m&s as they never have the big sizes in store and I like to see them before I buy as there are so many styles.

Very comfy although not cotton apart from gusset.

Gonners · 04/04/2024 18:42

I like Innersy a lot - the mid-rise cotton ones are perfect for me. But they do all sorts and their Hated-Amazon page is worth a look. They last well too.

Big black playtex pants off Amazon

Not cheap but not extortionate either

Reliable and comfortable.

Could house a family in them

bananasstink · 04/04/2024 19:15

I wear odd balls pants. They are the comfiest pants I have ever had. 95% cotton. I just looked in the label

Sunflower101 · 04/04/2024 19:34

I’ve just bought some Camille pants on Amazon which are almost identical to my big sloggis I used to have before they wore out.

Do you mean you want to be able to put something inside the gusset bit?

It can be quicker to construct pants if you don't bother to sew down one edge of the inner layer of the gusset. So some companies do this to save on costs. The opening is not "for" anything; certainly not to put anything inside.

Check out Boody. I find these very comfy but don't know the materials (not willingly to whip mine off whilst I wait to collect DS and friends from sport event - sorry).

bamboo! they come up tiny and take days to dry but v comfortable

Tezza1 · 05/04/2024 06:54

@Nudgethatjudge Boody is 95 percent bamboo (probably strictly speaking viscose, but it's sold as bamboo) and 5 percent elastane. I am not joking: their underpants and clothing have been life changing for me. As I've gotten older so many fabrics/fits make me feel physically uncomfortable (like waists that hit in the wrong spot, seams that aren't smooth), but Boody midi briefs feel like I'm wearing nothing, and have NO seams. I've bought so many things from Boody and wear tons of their leisure pants and trousers. I just wish they would widen their range and colours. It's rather limited.

ClaudiaWinklepanda · 05/04/2024 07:40

Oh yes, Boody are magnificent.

TheTruthWillSetYouFreeMaybe · 07/04/2024 19:25

I also have the same Wirpara pants and also the Wirpara pants with the grey top band. The grey ones are my go-to for colder months but the others are a little too thick and restricting. I’ve bought some pants by Carole Hochman (first bought them in Costco). Love them, light but snug and not too restricting. Plus, they wash and dry super quick. Bought Sloggis recently as I loved them in the past but agree, they are not the same but so pricy. Gonna stick to Carole Hochman in future

Which brand do you buy?

I bought some last week after seeing them mentioned on this thread and am wearing them today. I agree they feel like I have nothing on at all, they are so comfy. I will buy more now I know how nice they are.

Branleuse · 07/04/2024 22:40

I love the heaviness of the wirapa fabric. I think the extra high waisted ones are so supportive and slimming, but not rigid or uncomfortable like shapewear. I think John Lewis basic full brief has good coverage.
