Wardrobe refresh needed … who do you follow - especially if you are in your 50’s or thereabouts?

I'd be interested in this too. I'd also like to hear of any YouTube content creators focusing on older women & classical style.

Lynda Jane Tomlinson

Bricks and Stitches

Who What Wear Uk

  • get regular email from them with articles about current trends. Useful for getting an idea of upcoming trends etc, and their examples range from H &M, Zara to more expensive stores.

Wears My Money (Kate)

  • Just signed up to her emails, get regular emails with suggestions etc

Also, did a body shape and colour analysis a few years ago. I guessed I was a pear (from Trinny and Suzanne days) but the analysis gave me a better idea of what suits me in terms of colour and styles.

Midlife Chic.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 24/03/2024 12:23

No one. If I see the occasional look I like (jeans into knee high boots) then I might follow an influencer based on that look.

Andrea's Fashion Galaxy, but on You Tube. She is much skinnier than I am but I take her advice on accessories and colour.

Ineedmytea · 24/03/2024 18:21

Thank you … I will be having a look at them all! At the moment I just tend to click on something that looks like it might be interesting but it’s very hit and miss!

Styled by Susie 😍🔥

ASighMadeOfStone · 24/03/2024 20:03

I used to follow Kat Farmer.
She was great, did Cos, M&S, Nrby, John Lewis try ons.
About 3-4 years ago almost all my wardrobe came from watching her fashion reels.

Don't know what the hell has happened but she doesn't do any of that now. She wears the same fake leather leggings day in day out and seems to fill her Instagram with getting drunk.

I tried Wears my Money but am also on the look out for someone else, so I'll have a look at those recommended.

onlyconnect · 24/03/2024 20:09

I quite like backofthewardrobe70 but will try some of the ideas mentioned here because I haven't really found anyone I really like- and I do want to

Chocolateteabag · 24/03/2024 20:12

Carolinesstylehacks - she is shorter than me but o like how she puts outfits together

I've noticed the same about DMBL40 - used to post some great styling stuff but now it's all about wine or boring cruises

I also get really bored of seeing influencers at fancy "press day" dinners with place cards and goody bags.
Why do they think others will want to see pictures of strangers all having a lovely swanky time? Seems really odd to me

mizu · 24/03/2024 20:17

@ASighMadeOfStone I used to follow Kat Farmer too but don't anymore for similar reasons.

I follow Jenny Garcia who was a head buyer for Top Shop. Alex Stedman too.

Namerchanger1 · 24/03/2024 20:19

I like thefashion_lift

Whatineed · 24/03/2024 20:29

Theturquoiseflamingo on Instagram.

BigFluffyHoodie · 24/03/2024 21:11

Kat Farmer just makes me laugh now, with her plastic drainpipe leggings and weird hat. She pops up on my feed occasionally, what on earth has she done to her face?

I like Bricks and Stitches and Mrs Add To Basket.

SuperstarDeejay · 24/03/2024 22:29

If you are size 14+ Anna Cascarina has some lovely silhouettes.

40plusnotgivingupyet has lots of fun, high street try ons. Like Kat Farmer used to before... well whatever the hell happened to her.

I actually enjoy YouTube more for fashion, I find hearing people talking about how they put their outfits together more informative than a still photo.

I hadn't thought about YouTube for fashion. Who would you recommend on there?

She really makes me smile!

I'm 57.

I love LydiaTomlinson. Also Jesse from Fashion & Style edit.

You'll probably find your favourite instagrammers on there! Lydia Tomlinson definitely is.

It'll really depend on your style I think. Generic 40+, Anna Reid and Erin Busbee maybe, though they are both American so you won't necessarily know the brands. Frederique Bros is a lot of fun to watch.

I'm going through a very puritan phase at the moment! Low-buy, very neutral. I like Alyssa Beltempo and Christina Mychas for that. They help you find ways to look cool and somewhat on trend with what you already have.

Emily Wheatley is also fun to watch though her fashion is sometimes a bit edgy and androgynous for my taste.

Once you follow a few, another 100 similar will be recommended to you Grin

SuperstarDeejay · 24/03/2024 23:48

Oh and I haven't looked into Midlife Posh Closet all that much but yesterday I found she'd posted absolutely brilliant travel capsule wardrobe which I am 100% stealing for my next trip. Her style is very classic and neutral, and it's nice to see the sort of stuff Lydia Tomlinson would wear on a more squishy middle age body!

Bearpawk · 24/03/2024 23:51

Alexandra steadman and Erica Davies.
The latter is a bit colourful for my liking but I have bought a couple of pairs of trousers off the back of her try- ons!

CurrentHun · 24/03/2024 23:58

Cathi Rae for older women’s fashion found in charity shops etc and body positivity can be very inspiring.
So much of the outfits I see on IG are samey and boring. I miss Man Repeller.. harrumph
