Wardrobe refresh needed … who do you follow - especially if you are in your 50’s or thereabouts?

I used to follow Kat Farmer.
She was great, did Cos, M&S, Nrby, John Lewis try ons.
About 3-4 years ago almost all my wardrobe came from watching her fashion reels.

Don't know what the hell has happened but she doesn't do any of that now. She wears the same fake leather leggings day in day out and seems to fill her Instagram with getting drunk.

I tried Wears my Money but am also on the look out for someone else, so I'll have a look at those recommended.

I stopped following doesmybumlook40 for similar reasons. She wears the same unflattering few outfits now. It's all gone a bit wrong.

Will be following this thread for ideas but I watched Melissa Murrelll on YouTube

Alexandra steadman and Erica Davies.
The latter is a bit colourful for my liking but I have bought a couple of pairs of trousers off the back of her try- ons!

I love Alex Stedman too although she's under 40 I think. https://www.instagram.com/alexandra.stedman

Stylebyclairelopez on Instagram is excellent - loads of videos with style tips, recommendations on what to buy, dressing for different seasons, body shapes, etc. I've learnt a lot from her.

xSideshowAuntSallyx · 25/03/2024 06:24

StylebyClaireLopez and LisaTalbot1. Both I find really interesting.

MotherWol · 25/03/2024 07:17

Dress With Dani - she does loads of work-appropriate outfits and I find the tips on how to balance looking good with a corporate job really helpful.

Oh and I haven't looked into Midlife Posh Closet all that much but yesterday I found she'd posted absolutely brilliant travel capsule wardrobe which I am 100% stealing for my next trip. Her style is very classic and neutral, and it's nice to see the sort of stuff Lydia Tomlinson would wear on a more squishy middle age body!

I've added both of those, thank you. That's exactly what I want. ❤️

Eve · 25/03/2024 07:58

Feron Clark style is 1 of the few I follow.

Ineedmytea · 25/03/2024 08:23

I spent last night down an Instagram rabbit hole and have added quite a few to follow - and now loads more suggestions to check out - thank you! Hadn’t thought of You Tube so will look at those recommendations later too. Agree with all the comments re Kat - she’s about the only one I did follow but seems to have changed direction of late.

Roz_creativestylist, Anna Cascerina, Rita Serrano, Lydia Tomlinson. And just for outfits parading about on the street Füsun Lindner, Patricia Wirschke.

Bluefell · 25/03/2024 17:00

I tend to follow people who wear simple, comfortable outfits that are fairly minimal. I love Janne Aunan, if I could dress like anyone I’d pick her. Also Brittany Bathgate and Chloe Hayward - not middle aged but their style is ageless. And I follow some men like marco.lstn because his outfits are fairly unisex and basic.

skippy67 · 25/03/2024 17:15

I like 40plusnotgivingupyet. We're similar height and size.

deedeemegadoodoo · 28/03/2024 00:58

Caroline’s Style Hacks, Mrs add to Basket and Wears My Money.

Bearpawk · 03/04/2024 21:36

@Hols24 if she's not already 40 she must be this year. She graduated the same year as me (40) and she was 35 according to an article in 2019.

Merrilydancing · 03/04/2024 21:42

I have been following style by Clare Lopez, she recently did something on proportions which was really helpful.

SplatPancake · 22/04/2024 22:29

I find Kat really alarming now - there’s something going on in her life (divorce?) but I really think she should just step away from SM for a while and just get…well.

Following - I am always on the lookout for new ones to follow! A few times I’ve been following someone then found out they have a Tattle thread and then I get sucked in to reading it and end up unfollowing the person once their flaws are exposed 😒😄

Definitely agree with this.
It's like watching some kind of reality TV experiment where the person doesn't yet realise they are in one.

I also live literally in the area of Italy where she's holidaying in her flipflops and by the pool and it's freezing. We've got the heating on and I dug my winter puffa coat out yesterday.

The sun was out (briefly) but the temperature never got higher than 15 so I'm bemused at the sunbathing.

But again, the whole thing just seems so random. Is she a clothes stylist, a wine expert, Judith Chalmers? I no longer follow her but I dip in to see if anything has changed and it just seems to be spiralling. Booze, plastic leggings, fake tan and bronzer that looks like the 70s want their SPF 2 back.

I'm on the lookout for what Kat was a couple of years ago, but haven't found anyone. Good quality classics with a twist. For the first time ever (and in Italy where clothes are more important than your own children so I always felt like Worzel Gummidge) people would ask me where I got my stuff from. And it was from Kat's reels and Cos and M&S 😂Nothing outrageously priced. No cowboy hats.

And she was so funny. And then she wasn't.

The close up of her leg (picture 7 I think) when she’s sunbathing shows she’s covered in goosebumps so I rather think the whole thing is for the gram!

Cantonet · 23/04/2024 11:58

I like Melissa Murrell. Her you-tube videos are excellent. Plus Invest In Style. They're both very good at picking out brilliant items from everyday stores.
I'm another one who used to love 'Does My Bum Look' but I currently hate all the black she's wearing, the silly hats, the extreme skinniness & the dodgy fillers.

Rebootnecessary · 23/04/2024 12:06

I quite like Emma Paton - largely because she is a similar size and colouring to me!

It's for Citalia, who are paying.

Mind you, if I were paying for her content, I would ban the hideous Fitflops.

ETA: But then she gets paid by Marcia Kilgore to advertise the Fitflop Birkenstock dupes as well, so probs got paid for wearing the Fitflops.
