To get rid of them, and to no avail. Have tried a LOT of things, including Mario Badescu power which I got from googling and was rubbish. Weirdly the only time they went away was on a trip to New York years and years ago when I had a horrible rash and had to see a doctor and he gave me tablets for a week, 7 tablets on the first day, 6 on the second etc. My great regret is not noticing what on earth the tablets were. Is there an American make-your-skin-lovely tablet? Anyway, any tips? And WHY WHY does any fake tan make them look like someone's attacked me with a black pen??????????

Have you tried this?

binkleandflip · 31/03/2008 22:20

I would recommed a dermalogica skin mapping appointment and prescriptive facial.

Heated · 31/03/2008 22:21

Pillow, what did your skin look like immediately after the microdermabrasion.

Booked in tomorrow and wondered if I'm going to have to hide away for a week afterwards?!

Pillow · 31/03/2008 22:34

Depends how its done heated. Its a bit like a mini-hoover and sometimes you have some track mark lines for an hour or two. Never had any bad breakouts after tho. And v glowy the next day (but still blackheady grrrr)

Have you tried the liz earle products? My skin has never been better since trying them. I would be wary about using products that dry out the skin too much. It actually increases the amount of oil your skin creates. A bit like how your body goes into starvation mode if you don't eat and stores any calories as fat. The cleanse and polish gently exfoliates daily but it never dries out. Using that and the toner and moisturiser worked better for me than anything else.

Pillow · 31/03/2008 22:41

And did you have bad blackheads before? And less now?

Mucha · 31/03/2008 22:54

Oh completely. It's the only thing that has worked for me. I have even done the extreme thing of putting straight tea tree oil on my face in the past. I have used all the expensive products - clarins, clinique (strips your skin - rubbish), tried the retin stuff. The clean and clear and clearasil stuff are only really ok for teenage skin IMO. Be careful about doing too much steaming as it can break the capillaries in your face. You need to feed your skin, and not fight the blackheads like someone said before. If you use a toner, make sure it is not an alcohol based one (again, the liz earle is just gorgeous) and then you need a damn good moisturiser. For me again, Liz earle wins!

Sazisi · 31/03/2008 23:05

Have you tried taking vitamin A, and not using moisturiser? It's the only thing that's helped my spots, and I've tried lots..

Pillow · 31/03/2008 23:05

Mucha you have tempted me onto the internet for products which is NOT ALLOWED!!!

pukka · 01/04/2008 09:43

oo, i just remembered, have you tried yoghurt?
put on your face like a face mask. leave for tenish minutes then wash off with water. done regularly helps.

brookeslay · 02/04/2008 17:33

For skin regime you could try Dr.Brandt I know they sell it at Selfridges, the poreless cleanser is designed to deal with blackheads. A liz earle deep cleansing mask is good not too expensive. Then use something to control the oil if its a problem like the active serum

www.victoriahealth.com/vhstore/pc/viewPrd.asp?idcategory=&idproduct=4937

Don`t over clean as to strip the area as this willcreate more oil and production goes into over drive. Do you take oil internally? as they balance the skin from within.

Some of the pore effect range is here :

agennaro · 02/04/2008 19:00

I have just bought some of the Dr Brandt pores no more mask, will let you know how it goes.

Only thing is I forgot how I am supposed to use it, the very clear skinned poreless girl in Space nk did explain but in the grip of product buying frenzy have forgot and there are no instructions, can't even remember if it is under or over make up.

Will investigate and report back.

Is this the tube you bought ? or this ?

agennaro · 02/04/2008 19:56

It's the first one, thanks so much. I will try it both ways and see if it makes any difference.
The second one is calling to me and I think it would only be fair to buy that as well, for the purposes of scientific research of course.

brookeslay · 02/04/2008 20:01

Of course only in the line of research I bought an Espa candle and bath oil. Hope you look super radiant !

cocolepew · 02/04/2008 20:09

What about whiteheads! They are the bane of my life. I also get blackheads but these take the biscuit. Bought Mario thingy drying lotion from US - doesn't work. Only thing that works is poking them out with a needle (little hard bit under the skin), but them I'm left with a hole in my face! I think they're blackheads that haven't been exposed to the air.
Someone help pleeaassee.

agennaro · 02/04/2008 20:23

A poreless face will be mine!

Just got the purifying mask, found this really cheap website called strawberrynet, as it was so cheap I thought well I've saved loads so have also got the poreless moisture thing, and also have just found something called Biotherm pore refining exfoliant. With a name like that it must be good.

Once I've sorted out the pores will move on to the blackheads. I can envisage my smooth blemish free, non shiny face. I'll look like I've been airbrushed. Fabulous.

woodenchair · 02/04/2008 22:38

haven't read the whole thread since my late night rant a few days ago.

but this stuff is fab for shrinking blackheads to nearly nothing. I found it by reading american forums

Was about to post you can't get it in the UK, but have just found it on ebay. I'm off to buy some ...

Pillow · 02/04/2008 22:39

The Dr Brandt poreless stuff did nothing for me.

OP posts:
Pillow · 02/04/2008 22:40

Ooh Woodenchair, in my internet searchings I keep seeing mention of this. And it is dirt cheap over there i think?

OP posts:
woodenchair · 02/04/2008 22:48

You're right it's really cheap, just a few dollars. That's one of the reasons, I think, it's difficult to get hold of, because it's such a low value item. I did have a tube that I got off on the of US airbases, and it is really good.

Pillow · 02/04/2008 22:51

How do i get some????

OP posts:
woodenchair · 02/04/2008 22:51

this is the stuff I really want to get hold of.

It won the InStyle US beauty awards for combination skin a few times and i've seen it discussed loads of places but I can't find it here. I even emailed Aveeno to see if anyone stocked it, but they said that the products the were supplying to the uk were demand driven.

Pillow · 02/04/2008 22:53

But that stuff is hair reducing. I can live with my hair
