I am in despair
The events are: one evening wedding reception in the UK, one full on black tie wedding in Europe

The only item that wasn't a total reject was this coast dress but it is black

Can anyone help me please?

What type of thing are you looking for? I had a similar dilema last year. Had a wedding to go to (DH was best man) and a school leavers Ball. Bought a cream dress with wide black straps and band below the bust. Did the trick fo both.

sophierosie · 25/03/2008 22:13

That coast one looks lovely - Lots of people wear black at weddings, esp for evening doo's. Don't know what the protocol is in Europe though?

REIDmylips · 25/03/2008 22:14

what about this?

REIDmylips · 25/03/2008 22:15

I really like the black dress too.

TheBlonde · 25/03/2008 22:22

I would prefer to wear some colour although I'd probably be able to get away with the black one and some kind of coloured wrap

REID - the red one is nice but probably too low cut at the front (I have bra issues)

good idea about the wrap! i nice bright pink would look lovely, maybe with matching coloured bag and shoes?

TheBlonde · 26/03/2008 09:17

Thanks

Any other suggestions out there?

I like the black dress but wouldn't put a bright color with it
maybe metallic? bronze or pewter shoes / wrap / bag?

and you do know you may be the only one in a short dress at the European black tie wedding though, don't you?

TheBlonde · 26/03/2008 10:39

You are right MrsB the Euro wedding guests will either wear long dresses or possibly some trad dress(!)

I couldn't find anything long though

MrsBadger · 26/03/2008 10:47

I forget what size you are - if a 10-12 I might be able to lend you something long...

Alas too big Mrs B - I am 14-16 depending on the brand. Big boobs, no waist, less hips than chest, upside down triangle

I tried on some dresses where my whole bra ended up on show, at 34K it is not a good look

I have ordered this bra which hopefully will solve some of the issues
panache

[searches archives]

what about the pink-cardi-based outfit you wore for the wedding last summer?

if nothing else the pink cardi and shoes would look good over the black dress for the non-black-tie wedding...

MrsB - I didn't do the pink cardi outfit last summer in the end (cream skirt was too small). Ended up with a black/beige net skirt from Hobbs and black cardi with cap sleeves

Janitor - that dress is nice but not sure I can cope with a strapless bra

that sounds nice

I'd wear that again for the uk reception [cheapskate]
and consider something new and long for the black tie do

cod and/or lapin may be able to lend if you ask nicely

What about LK Bennett? I am ample of bosom and their dresses work on me. No stupid, piddly straps!

This would look lovely on a blonde:

This dress has appealed to lots of us recently:

Also comes in blue or a very classy misty grey.

TheBlonde · 26/03/2008 13:07

Thanks I think I will have to check out LKB on Sunday

WanderingTrolley · 26/03/2008 13:10

What about Selfridges/similar and a personal shopper?

champagnesupernova · 26/03/2008 13:14

Oh Patsy that green dress is gorgeous! I want it (but have no reason to buy it and am 9 months pg)

To the OP, don't discount Fenwicks

Agree with MrsB about metallics rather than brights with black.

TheBlonde · 26/03/2008 13:19

We did Selfridges on Monday
I only have this Sunday to shop then I'm in Cambridge til the first wedding
