Denim dress for someone with boobs...

FrogSplash · 02/03/2024 06:47

Asking for help with a long running problem. I've had a hankering for a denim dress since last summer.

Ideally I'm looking for: dark blue denim, pockets, knee or calf length, skater style is my preferred. Reasonable budget (ideally £80 or less).

Would prefer to avoid: button up styles, pockets on the chest that don't sit properly, belts.

How can this be so hard? I'm a size 12 and have a bosom but my boobs aren't bigger than my head or anything.

Over the last few months I've tried Roman (first time). Started with a 12 and it wouldn't go over my chest, by the 14 it was baggy everywhere else.

And then this week I went Nobody's Child. Beautiful dress but the 12 won't do up, I'm not sure the 14 is big enough and while I wouldn't mind trying a 16 for comfort it's now sold out.

Has anyone seen anything that might help please? I've done plenty of middle of the night Googling but I just can't see anything that works. Am I just trying at the wrong time of year?

Take a look at the scamp and dude zip up one- it is very flattering. Out of budget but you can get it cheaper secondhand.

So sosandar have quite a few denim dresses. Maybe have a look and see if there are any you like.

I know you said not buttons, but I bought this recently and love it. It's low cut though and I have to wear a vest under. I have GG boobs and they fit in.

This won't solve your problem immediately but I have similar large chest issues and in the end I started making my own clothes.

Some clothes patterns come with different cup sizes but on others I can choose a larger bust size and a smaller waist size and grade between the two, or do what's known as a 'full bust adjustment'.

I look so much better now my clothes actually fit properly rather than being too tight over the bust or too baggy everywhere else.

I have a couple of denim Rosa dresses I've made from the Tilly and The Buttons pattern

I've also tried 3 or 4 denim dresses, but like you I'm full busted and broad shouldered, I couldn't get one to fit my boobs without being baggie everywhere else, the only dresses I own are of a stretch material or a loose shirt style which I belt.

I also bought the short sleeved version of this and it’s fine over DD’s. Very flattering overall too

fourelementary · 02/03/2024 17:40

I'm wondering if anyone can help me know what to search for or what I’m describing. In the 90s/ early 00s I used to get clothes from tradecraft type catalogues that were kind of woven, and like those backpacks and friendship bracelets everyone had too… colourful and fair trade. Made somewhere in a traditional style or patter… but I can’t think where, so can’t search. Kind of wide legged trousers… also had a pinafore.

Does anyone have a clue what I’m talking about please?

You should start your own thread to request help with a different type of clothing.

Fashion can’t cope with big boobs. Standard dress fittings are just that - standard. The only dresses I can wear are wrap dresses - I have two! It can be limiting but unless you make your own clothes or have them made what can you do?

I vaguely remember that Joe Browns used to have a catalogue and used to have a bit of hippie surfer style back then. Does this ring a bell?

I have this, along with big boobs, and it’s lovely. Very wearable and flattering.

I know you said you prefer skater style though but they do have this one coming soon which might work better for you?All of their clothes are really flattering and they do often work for larger chests.

Thanks for the ideas, I like the first one in the OP, I am a full size 14.
The Sosander one might be perfect for me.

I hate all the low necklines and buttons for this reason

Crucible · 03/03/2024 16:20

Following - same shape and also very long torso. The Sosander looks a good shape but I doubt the waist will sit right.

LivelyLemonDuck · 03/03/2024 16:22

Wear a minimiser bra

LivelyLemonDuck · 03/03/2024 16:25

@fourelementary crochet clothes? Free People and Urban Ourfitters do stuff like this. More around in summer.

mustwashmycurtains · 03/03/2024 18:22

i have that in midi length and darker denim - it fits fine over my 36G boobs. It's a different look as it's not as fitted but it's also not sacklike so i'm pretty happy with it.

Also have the Aligne Gabriella denim dress. Nicer denim than the Monsoon one, but more full so it's a bit more of an 'ingenue' look which may not be what you want.

The Nobody's Child Starlight dress in denim is meant to be very flattering - has a waist - but they cut small so you need to size up.
