I bought the Revlon one and I hate it. It makes me look 10 years older. Have resorted to using it over my liquid foundation as a powder

bobsyouruncle · 25/03/2008 15:33

I buy it online from the lilylolo site. I bought 3 trial size pots which I'm still using weeks later, but I'll definitely buy the full size when I run out.

BumperliciousAteTooManyEggs · 25/03/2008 15:35

aren't you supposed to use a special, but expensive, kabuki brush to get the best coverage?

JodieG1 · 25/03/2008 15:37

I need little coverage really so rarely use much foundation but the lilylolo one was still awful, really felt it on my skin very heavy.

I was so disappointed by it, I really wanted it to be good!

bobsyouruncle · 25/03/2008 15:40

I didn't buy the brush, I just use a blusher brush.

nailpolish · 25/03/2008 15:42

i find it impossible to buy cosmetics online!

bobsyouruncle · 25/03/2008 15:46

Is it the colour thing nailpolish? You can buy little trial size pots for 80p(ish) to help you choose the right colour, & there is guidance on how to work out your skintone & which colour would be suitable on the site too.

JackieNo · 25/03/2008 15:47

I'm using the lilylolo one - and really loving it. I have combination, spot-prone skin, and it gives even coverage. It also works well as concealer if you use a little on a foam eyeshadow applicator - really natural finish. I like the fact that it's supposed to be healing for skin, and I reckon mine's better for using it. I also have the green redness reducing powder, which works very well for me.

lizandlulu · 25/03/2008 15:48

i have so far bought the loreal one with brush in the top, bare escentuals mineral veil, which looks ok but barely there, i dont think i am applying it properly, also a mac powder which i bought off ebay. it was ment to be a mac mineral foundation but im not sure it is mineral, just a bloody powder!!

i so far have found it impossible to find one that looks good on me.

i have just bought a jane iredale liquid minerals foundation which is ment to be really good, but it has not come yet.

BumperliciousAteTooManyEggs · 25/03/2008 15:53

Apparently the brush can make a difference and make it feel less caked on. there's a technique to it apparently. Not sure where I read that though.

nailpolish · 25/03/2008 15:54

yes its the colur thing, bobs

is the same with avon, i just dont get it!

might try this, i might look in shops first tho

JackieNo · 25/03/2008 15:57

How to apply it - I kind of polish it in with a big brush, not how you'd normally apply powder.

sakurarose39 · 25/03/2008 15:57

oooh good timing - I have just bought bare escentuals, literally two days ago. I'm 40 this year (eek) and thought it was about time I tried some grown-up make-up. (have never worn liquid foundation, and used Body Shop pressed powder up til now). The mineral stuff is OK so far - not quite as "wow" as I'd expected...and need to use a bit more than the tiny amount they say on the ads. Got the kabuki brush - tis worth it.
I remember India Knight praising Lilylolo to the skies in one of her columns a while back.
Can you use Touch Eclat with mineral powder?

SabaSaba · 25/03/2008 16:02

Most of the ones that are available in shops ( revlon/loreal Boots 17 now do a cheapy version ) are not true mineral makeups, they have a lot of talc in them which is why they look so powdery. Lily lolo and Bare escentuals are both real mineral makeups ( just minerals, no other ingredients )there are loads of other mineral makeups available which are 100% minerals, but you need to check the ingredients. If you put to much on of the bare escentuals it does make you look kind of silver & shiny ( you dont need much )this is down to a mineral called bismouth something or other ( can also make some people itch!)I havnt found this, but the Lily lolo one dosnt have it, if your worried - but this does make it very matt.

Bare escentauls are fab on my slightly oily skin.

It takes seconds to apply, a quick dab with my finger to cover any blemishes and under eye bags, then a few swooshes with the full coverage brushes - a swoosh of blush, a swoosh of sheer radiance and a dab on eye brow bone quick swoosh to blend it all, then lippy and mascara and I'm done.

It is important to get the right application brush - I use the full coverage one, but the medium coverage would be good for people with good skins.

I really like the way the blemishes cover over so easily, without the need for a concealer. You can also use the blush pigments under a colourless lip balm for matching lippy (if you are that way inclined.

A little goes a very very long way - I am still on my first tub of foundation which I bought in the US last July and have used it daily since then.

lizandlulu · 25/03/2008 16:35

the bare escentuals lady on qvc said you have to polish it onto your face. kind of buffing it in. she said the more you buff it the batter it looks.

i dont understand the difference between an ordinary powder brush and one of those kabuki brushes though.

i have never heard of them. does look good though. but £55 is alot for something you have never heard of.

Winetimeisfinetime · 25/03/2008 17:47

I have a very sensitive skin and find that I am ok with Bare Escentuals. I especially like the Bisque concealer which is the best I have ever tried. It is expensive but lasts for ages.

This implies that Lily Lolo is almost vegan except for 2 of their eyeshadows (see question 15)

Deux · 25/03/2008 19:04

Jane Iredale compressed base, so it doesn't fly around. Great coverage that lasts all day without looking loaded. Looks a bit powdery immediately after applying but this disappears after 5 minutes or so once it interacts with skin oils.

fishie · 25/03/2008 19:21

lilly lolo powder foundation is super, but not sure how it will survive in summer. i can't stand liquid foundation so this is really good and easy to just use where needed. so cheap too, have used 1.5 teeny tester pots in 6m.

lasts all day although a bit of powder is needed to tart up when going out in evening.

TheMadHouse · 25/03/2008 19:23

My Mum bought me a Bare essentials TSV off QVC last year and it is fab, we replaced some of the stuff when we went to France (as it was cheeper).

I love it - I am really pale and it suits me, withour being too much. I need to keep it away from the children through as it does get messey.

soapbox · 25/03/2008 21:32

BE in QVC now!
