clubbing - what to wear?

A friend is having her hen do next week and part of it is a cheesy nightclub in London. What should I wear? Its years (literally) since I went "clubbing" I have no idea what's the right look.

I'm large of nork and hate my upper arms. Legs not too bad. I want to look funky but not mdl... but equally don't want to look like an embarassing parent! ... Help!

I like the black one at the bottom But would need to make sure trouser/jeans come up high enough not to have gappy bit at waist popping out!!

BalletMum · 25/03/2008 10:17

Opps, didn't see the bit about hating upper arms, so now we need a shrug type thing to cover those.......

GloriaMumble · 25/03/2008 10:23

like the oasis top a lot. It does have a seam under bust though and I don't think norks will fit above seam so i'd end up with norks-chopped-in-half look. Will see if there's one to try in oasis this afternoon.
Thanks for the suggestions so far, definitely feeling a bit more positive

i agree with nice jeans, could be plain, but dark colour, and nice top.

i went out a few weeks ago and wore crop black trousers, black leather knee boots, and one of those tops which look like they have a shirt underneath. it was from new look. it was smart but not too smart.
but i would normally wear just nice top and jeans.

Slouchy · 25/03/2008 10:36

OKAY.

(Jesus wept, not the frock in the link)

I am v v large of nork. If I were to go clubbing (not that likely) I would wear:-

Cropped trews/jeans
Lovely sandals w/good pedicure
STRONG bra!!!
Little sleeveless top with solid straps (to cover aforsaid bra)
Shrug or little cardi in grey or silver.

Heathcliffscathy · 25/03/2008 10:39

i can't think of an occasion the frock in the link would be suitable for tbh...sorry

yes, cropped trews and shoes that show lovely painted toes v good. good bra important for lack of jiggling.

slouchy has it.

That sounds fab slouchy (solid straps to cover bra a personal bugbear!). I have a pair of smart cropped trews that I bought in the monsoon sale on impulse. Could wear those, heels or flat sandals with cropped trews d'you think?

phew, just rushed to check, they are machine washable! Just had a thought, would cropped trousers (ie bare lower legs) look weird if I had a shrug ie covered arms?
Only bought the trousers for daytime trogging in the summer would be great if they worked for this occasion. Still not sure of what shoes work with cropped trews though.

Yes to shrug and crops. Fine.

You want a pair of FuckMe sandals with big heels (but reasonably comfy).

PerkinWarbeck · 25/03/2008 11:12

do you know where you're going?

It's true that most clubs in London are dress down kind of places, and jeans/converse/interesting top/lotsa jewellery is your best bet.

BUT some of the really cheesy places (does "Hombres" still exist?) have a more ..ahem... suburban dress code, and therefore the horrid smart/casual no jeans no trainers rules might apply.

Nice dress, dressed down with thick tights and ballet pumps.
Hells are a pain in the ass, and sparkly top with jeans is too obvious.

GloriaMumble · 25/03/2008 11:53

Club is strawberry moons - does that change any of the advice?

OP posts:
Heathcliffscathy · 25/03/2008 12:03

yes perkin, spot on.

depends what kind of club, although in the main i would always err on the side of under rather than over dressed...

Heathcliffscathy · 25/03/2008 12:05

strawberry moons in action is the byline

i hope there are more people than that in there when you go!!

Heathcliffscathy · 25/03/2008 12:06

looking at some of the photos, i'd deffo wear what you feel pretty and comfortable in.

Thomcat · 25/03/2008 12:13

How about a top a bit like this with dark denim skinny jeans and then show wise you could do ballet pumps, heels or boots

lizandlulu · 25/03/2008 12:15

the nipple revealing strapless top??

GloriaMumble · 25/03/2008 12:15

what a plum, I didn't think of googling the club! Looks like heaps of bronzer would make me fit in - think maybe the colour balance is broken on my computer...

Right, off to town to find either top to go with cropped trews or dress to wear with leggings and comfy/kick ass shoes. Above all will aim for being happy and comfy and (if I can arrange a miracle) pretty.

Will report back on return, thanks so much to everyone - mumsnet's ace and so are mumsnetters!

That looks a bit trashy why pay London clubbing prices to go to what looks like a small town disco. There are so many great clubs where you would have a much better time.

Thomcat · 25/03/2008 12:18

What's happened to my link?
