I'm going out for dinner with a group of girls. Relaxed restaurant in a small city, probably cocktails in a bar afterwards. I'm 41, slim but not very toned, size 8, carry weight on bum/ hips/ thighs. Open to dresses or jeans but in desperate need of some inspiration! Feel like I've no clue what's in style any longer post kids, covid etc etc! Help me out ladies! xx

i popped on cos i was hoping for some inspo; so sorry im no use. What I will say though is that at a size 8 you can probably look good in anything!

Gailnic · 25/02/2024 20:49

Why not try a jumpsuit.? They can be very flattering on the bust and waist but with fuller volume of material on the bum and legs. Whatever shoes you wear can dress it up or down.

Quizine · 25/02/2024 20:51

Sorry now, but what weight would you carry as a size 8 please?

Broodywuz · 25/02/2024 20:58

I would also like to know this. Have a few things coming up and I'm soo out of touch post kids/covid etc

Riverlee · 25/02/2024 21:09

Would you say you’re pear shaped, or hour glass? Depends on what shape you are will depend what looks good on you.

ItsRainingTacos79 · 25/02/2024 21:15

My go to outfit/s are black silk shirt tucked into black cropped bootcut jeans/leather trousers and heels or trainers. A nice belt and necklace.

For summer, I like long flared/wide leg jeans with a white silk shirt. Again some nice jewellery and belt.

lemmefinish · 25/02/2024 21:19

May be too casual but I recently wore wide leg trousers, a blouse & embellished ballet pumps. I also have silver trousers that I’ve worn a lot but they are quite loud!

I'm larger but wore a purple cord skirt, black top, black tights and doc martens out last weekend, wasn't the only one dressed similarly in the pub. Other women were wearing jeans, others dresses

bellamountain · 25/02/2024 21:25

Oversized blazer with a plain top / vest top underneath, wide leg jeans. Wear with trainers or if wanting to be more dressy, sling backs.

Pinkvici22 · 25/02/2024 21:25

I’m (sadly) not a size 8, but I went out last week for dinner wearing a cream waistcoat and blazer from River Island, black mom jeans and some leopard heels. Hadn’t been out in ages!

AbsolutelyFemale · 25/02/2024 21:28

I've got wide legged navy trousers from Saint and Sofia (recommended on here, also got them in black) which I wear with trainers and a fitted top.

But also have docs in all sorts of colours which I wear with skin tight trousers and fitted top. So depends on the venue really.

ViciousCurrentBun · 25/02/2024 21:28

I wore this H&M dress out for dinner recently, I’m a size 10 and wore it with gold lace up pumps.

I'm a size 6-8 and carry weight on my hips and bum so I'm pearshaped and suit some styles better than others. Some will carry weight on their tummy so again would suit different styles, may want to disguise their tummy etc.

Just because someone is a size 8 doesn't mean they're all skin and bones. I hope that answers your question.

Myotherusernamesafunnyone · 26/02/2024 07:44

Thanks so much everyone!
I've ordered the leather skirt...
might look for a black silk shirt too, any suggestions?

@YouDidntEvenAskIfSheWasThereMoriarty

Agree!

I actually read OP post thinking how refreshing it was to hear a size 8 referenced with where weight is carried. Not assuming all size 8 wearers are stick thin.

RunnerDown · 26/02/2024 07:50

https://www.sezane.com/en/product/chlo-shirt/black
silk blouse in black. It comes in lots of other colours too

I found it quite depressing that even a size 8 feels she has to mention that she is "carrying weight"

henlake7 · 26/02/2024 09:17

TBF size 8 at 4ft 6 is going to look totally different then 5ft 11!
Its kinda meaningless without knowing someones height as well.

nc42day · 26/02/2024 09:25

I'd say sharp blazer, silk cami, jeans or leather skinnies, good boots, will take you almost anywhere especially if mostly black, and won't ever look radically under or overdressed if you're not sure what everyone else will turn up in.

Ratherstandonacliffandsetfiretomyself · 26/02/2024 09:29

These are my latest from going out for a smart meal, couple of drinks. They are all around Christmas time though. I’m late 30s, short, size 8 but carry more weight around hips and thighs

I've worn wide legged trousers, trainers and a fitted top with a leather biker over.
Or, skinny black jeans with boots and a silk shirt tucked in, and a wool coat
