Tell me/show me your low maintenance hair styles please.

I’m in desperate need of easy, chic options that are pretty much guaranteed to look good. My hair only seems to look decent when it’s down with a fair amount of effort put in.

Wearing my hair in a bog standard ponytail today. It looks rubbish.

I wear mine in a pixie cut that I bleach blond myself. Sometimes I get it cut at the local barbers and others at the hair salon. I tend to get it cut every 6 weeks or so. It takes seconds to dry and style. While I think my long, curly hair looked better, I'm happy with the pixie and think it fits my active lifestyle much better.

Terrible photo but it gives you some idea.

walle2 · 23/02/2024 16:07

I usually have mine in a ponytail too, but I tried something different & it gives it a bit of something!

A short pixie is always a good option. You do need to keep it trimmed every few weeks but it's not a complicated trim.

This is the best haircut I’ve ever had.

I have curly, thick hair and it took me no more than 10 minutes to style it straight, but also looks really cute curly.

I took this exact video to show my hairdresser (lady in the video also has naturally curly hair which is why I chose it) and it was amazing, always looked tidy and it was really quick to style. I think I feel a trip to the hairdresser coming… Grin

This is not me but this was my inspo pic when I went to the hairdressers.

My hair used to be longer but it's quite fine so looked a bit straggly at the ends. I decided to get it chopped into a bob. Best decision! It now looks thicker and it's much quicker to blow dry and style. Looks great straight, wavy or curly. I WFH and go to the gym regularly so it's usually in a ponytail but looks much better now that when it was longer. I told the hairdresser I still wanted it long enough to go in a pony. I also opted for balayage so my roots don't look as harsh coming in and I can go longer between colourings.

Pixie cut here - no need to blow dry, I just let it dry naturally, and if I want it to look extra nice stick a bit of wax through it.

Looks best if washed every morning, and I tend to get it cut every 6 - 8 weeks (best at 6 weeks).

I'm currently "growing it out" a little - it used to be super short, but is now slightly longer on top and asymmetrical for a change!

Throughahedgebackwards · 23/02/2024 17:09

It certainly ticks the low maintenance box.... not sure about the chic part. (Hairdresser approx once per 3 years, wash a couple of times a week, comb if particularly knotty, scrunch with a little bit of curl defining cream, leave to dry).

Short bob here. I just brush the parting where I want in when it’s wet and put a tiny bit of cantu cream in . That’s it. My hair is quite thin and if it gets much past chin length looks straggly, tatty and is quite ageing.

i have tried to show a selection of length / fringe combos.

not arsed about having my pic on here as have NC’d to the same name as I used on a thread about hair (and showed my face on)

it ranges from ear length to chin length. Sometimes I have a shorter fringe or sometimes a long swept to the side fringe. Can also wear nice alice bands with it - I like to knotted fabric ones. I just make sure some of the “fringe” is pulled forward and visible out the front of the band.

I keep it shorter and a bit “stacked” (only a bit”) at the back because I’m paranoid about having a flat head!

Chin length bob. I usually straighten it but only wash my hair every third day and it looks fine in between. Sometimes use a claw clip to hold it up, or a teeny tiny pony

Oh wow! You look great- beautiful eyes, I would say "Downton Abbey" type of look. Great!
Can you please let me know where did you get the red sweater?

I think we're on a similar page. No hairdresser, though, we have hairdressing scissors so I trim my own hair, Wash and condition two or three times a week, use a shower comb to detangle while the conditioner is in. Bit of curl cream while hair is still damp, wrap in microfibre turban. Run some hair oil in then leave to air dry.

I've got a short choppy modern mullet, which I dye blonde to cover the grey. I love it. Easiest haircut to maintain. Still looks good when it's growing out. Lower maintenance than a pixie cut

Sleepychicken · 23/02/2024 18:03

@Illpickthatup that was my inspo pic too 🤣 I love it! Best haircut I’ve had 😍

WavingCatsandDogs · 23/02/2024 18:12

There are loads of hacks on you tube for doing long hair other than a ponytail.

ChishiyaBat · 23/02/2024 22:13

Here's mine, I wash it and rough dry it, that's it, not to everyones taste though and definitely not chic, but I like it.

Is that a b&m uniform?

HaveringGold · 24/02/2024 01:07

Mine sits between a shag and a short modern mullet. So much easier than a pixie, and no blow drying like a bob. The bit of length at the back is also more flattering for me than a very short cut. My hair is naturally straight and fine but there's a lot of it. Out of the shower, towel dry and bit of salt spray most days, a bit of effort takes maybe 5 minutes blow dry and a minute of faffing with product

I have very curly hair and I love this cut. I wash every 2 days and deep condition once a week. It takes me 2 min to get ready in the morning and I only use some leave-in product and my fingers to style it. Can't see myself ever going back to having long hair.

@FringeOrNo @walle2 thank you for being so not arsed with your faces on a pic on here. Makes it more real were talking to humans lol well done ladies and lovely hair! @ChishiyaBat fair play to you and your very funky hair do!

muddyford · 24/02/2024 06:33

Mine's like Sharon Stone's, minus the tufty bits at the back. My hairdresser is an excellent cutter so I wash it, dry it and go. I don't even need to comb it as it falls into place.

JonnyTheDogFacedBoy · 24/02/2024 09:06

I have long (to mid bra strap) straight hair. It looks best when freshly washed, blow dried, and ends curled with straighteners. However, that takes about an hour and I rarely have that spare.

My go to is a sleek bun. Centre parting, neat bun at nape of neck. I'm not setting the world on fire, but it's smart, practical, easy to do, and looks OK with unwashed hair.

I would say don't go short unless you go really short.

I find bob length etc... requires a lot of styling normally. Hairdressers ALWAYS give me a bob no matter what I ask for and its annoying, hard work and looks terrible on me.

I now cut my own hair, I do the wolf/unicorn cut style but my layers aren't that short on top (shortest layer is about lips length). Its DESIGNED to look wild and messy which means with my thin, frizzy, wavy/curl hair I dont have to do anything and as long as its not really greasy it looks great.

Might not work on polka straight hair but if you have thin and kinky hair its fantastic... I imagine its good for thick hair too as the layers would remove a lot of weight.

Gassylady · 24/02/2024 09:22

@housethatbuiltme would you mind sharing a pic? Your hair sounds just like mine no matter what the hairdresser has tried cutwise it always looks awful. Fully acknowledge that my “wash it and leave it” approach doesnt help.
