Mulberry bags....thoughts please

I have been coveting the Loewe Puzzle bag for some time now but I have decided I simply cannot and never will be able to justify the £2,400 price tag.

I have recently been looking at the Mulberry Billie, in chalk, I know it is not similar but it does look like a really nice bag and it is a third of the price tag and is the size and idea of the kind of bag I want.

I can't put my finger on it though but there is something I am just not sure about with Mulberry....will this last the test of time?

I like the look of the Mulberry Pimlico, first time in years I've considered buying one.

@Ireolu

Yes, the flagship was on Bond Street but once their store on Regent's Street opened, that became the flagship. The block Mulberry was on on Bond Street is being totally renovated and it, along with Fenwicks, is being turned into a hotel. Mulberry had to move it's flagship store, and the group whom run Regent's Street offered them a better a rental rate and free refurbishment to move to Regent's Street.

I disagree re. needing to be on Bond Street, and besides, it is Old Bond Street that has a bit more cachet anyway. Mulberry just isn't that luxe anyway, and no amount of price increases is going to change this.

Anyway, and more importantly, your Alexa, like I said, Mulberry just does not have a good resale value. That said, if you put it on Vinted, you probably could still get £160 now.

Mulberry just does not have a good resale value.

That's incorrect. In just the past year, I have sold two of my (so used, by me) Mulberry bags on ebay. I sold an Alexa for £560 and a Mini Zipped Bayswater for £700. Both sold within 48 hours 🙂

I quite like the Pimlico as well, but I have a mulberry Amberley from 4 years ago that’s still lovely that would fit in the same outfit/usage point.

I do think mulberry’s have got too expensive for what they are. I’m in the market for a new tote bag for work, I have a Bayswater in black and want something brown that’s similar sized/same capacity for days I need to carry a lot of crap, but I can’t justify the Bayswater Tote for price VS quality now.

(I possibly need to start another thread looking for good 2nd hand sites for mulberry totes)

I do kind of regret getting my mini kite, even though it's beautiful to look at, because of the uncomfortable strap and it being unlined with no zip. I don't know what I was thinking really because it cost over £700 and that was years ago. But I do still like the look of Mulberry and may well end up buying a lily at some point.
But if I'm totally honest, I've got much cheaper bags that are more comfortable to wear and are made just as well (like Coach)
I used to love a brand called Blondie Mania - have got a bag called a Petronella that's as well made as my mulberry but was less than £300 when I bought it.
So I have to agree that Mulberry probably isn't really worth what you pay for it in terms of material.
Mind you, I still think Radley is okay - not all of it and not that stupid little dog tag but some of their designs are nice and I think they are quite hardy if you are using them a lot and they are getting bashed about.
Never got the MK thing - too expensive but a lot of it looked cheap to me.

@FancyBiscuitsLevel if I just wanted a tote for work I'd probably look at Russel & Bromley

whatthejuice · 02/03/2024 16:21

I also would love the Loewe bag but think the price is ridiculous (I do buy designer bags very occasionally but think this Loewe is particularly overpriced).

I bought this from Hush as a dupe as I love the shape and get a lot of wear out of it.

LadyBird1973 · 02/03/2024 16:27

@Zone2NorthLondon glad to meet another fan of blondie mania. I might have a little trawl on Vinted and see if the have any

Arm Candy. Click on their 👆 videos, they do a full demo of all their bags.

Check ebay too. They do a free authenticity guarantee (the bag will be sent to you via an authenticator, who will also fully inspect it to ensure it matches the seller description). That free service is only on bags over £500 though.

I came back to add a great Italian brand - Campomaggio - I have a couple of their bags & they are beautifully made & always get complimented when I use them.

Plumo stock them too but I bought directly from their own site. Reasonable prices for the excellent quality

LadyBird1973 · 02/03/2024 18:22

@Zone2NorthLondon I have a red petronella and am quite tempted by that balsa in the sale. It's nice to see blondie mania are still going. For some reason I thought they'd stopped selling.
