I'm trying to evoke some nostalgia by trying some forgotten fragrances.

For me it was Sun Moon Stars, CK Obsession, Jean Paul Gaultier Classique and Gucci Rush.

Charlie Red!!!

I sometimes go into Boots just to sniff it for the nostalgia.

I just heard a guy screaming "VENEZIA!" in my head when I read that. From the ad. Memories are a strange thing.

Almahart · 22/02/2024 15:04

Mine were almost exactly the same!

no 19, or Cristalle

Demeter grass - you could get Demeter in the big Boots on Bond street

I still loved white musk from teenage days.

Also, M&S Isis and they used to do a brilliant eau dynamisante dupe. I also liked Pleasures by Estee Lauder

I have worn Chanel No 19 since I was 18 and still wear it today. As wonderful and different as it ever was despite a reformulation because they couldn't get an ingredient from Iran.

Yes! That's right. A beautiful woman running across St. Mark's Square - so baroque and rich, just like the original perfume (not the reformulated one they released later). This is the ad you were thinking of

Glow by J Lo. I used to adore it!

That's the ad! Sigh. Life seemed full of the possibilities of foreign travel and sophistication.

LadyWithLapdog · 21/02/2024 09:06

Also Tresor, Spellbound

Some of these have become my teenage DD’s favourites now.

Tresor was lovely. Spellbound was vile (sorry!). You had to put it on about two days before you left the house!

I wore Estee Lauder Cinnabar in my 20s and then one day it just seemed too "old" for me. I then started wearing Clinique Happy and still wear it now. I'm a one-scent girl. DH wears the men's version and he smells delicious.

LadyWithLapdog · 22/02/2024 23:06

@CharlotteStreetW1 😂 come on, it was a decade of strong and powerful smells. I loved it at the time, but I tried it years later and it didn’t smell the same.

LadyWithLapdog · 22/02/2024 23:09

@dandeliondandy thank you for that Venezia ad. I’d never seen it, though I loved the perfume. I couldn’t remember what the bottle looked like, nice memory now.

thesleepyhoglet · 22/02/2024 23:39

Carachel the round shaped iridescent bottle

PumpkinSpicedTea · 23/02/2024 08:15

Love this thread. So many I'd forgotten.

I remember feeling so cool having Tommy Girl but I also have a weird feeling it was some sort of dupe or fake 😂

Gucci rush was given to me by my first boyfriend. I bet loads of memories would come back if I smelled that again.

Not perfume but Impulse O2 was an absolute fave of mine in my teenage years 😂

rooftopbird · 23/02/2024 08:30

Tresor

kerstina · 23/02/2024 08:46

I think I liked Organza and hypnotic poison around that time too.

skilpadde · 23/02/2024 10:30

For anyone who's nostalgic about Impulse O2, it's back!

It's definitely in Savers, but ai think Superdrug and Tesco also stock it now.

I couldn’t wear it now, it would dilute the Proustian rush!

LadyWithLapdog · 23/02/2024 18:46

Inspired by this thread and testers available in Superdrug, I tried a few perfumes on this evening. I pong and I think the main culprit is Giorgio Yellow. Sorry, commuters. They did big scents in decades past.

Glad to see Georgio Beverly Hills was a popular choice! I bloody loved that perfume, do they still make it? I feel like I want to buy myself a bottle just to sniff and feel 19 again!

Anjo2011 · 23/02/2024 19:23

Clinique - Happy

isthismylifenow · 23/02/2024 19:32

My signature scent was Dior Dune. I would get so many compliments. I still have the original bottle with the tiniest amount in which I spray once in a blue moon for nostalgic reasons. Then it seemed to be very hard to get hold of. It is back now but seems be quite limited to where it is sold.

But I found a bargain one and have ordered it and I should have it next week.

I am rather excited about it. As we are going into Autumn and I always preferred it as an Autumn / winter scent.

The others were
Anais Anais (still have that bottle too)
Lace
Intuition

And I used a sneak a bit of my mums Tresor every now and then. She also used Opium, goodness it was so strong I can still smell it now.

They do!

That yellow and white box is quite distinctive

I'm almost 100 sure Revlon make it as I've seen this (and quite a few blasts from the past) as I go to the warehouse sale each year.

ginandoreos · 23/02/2024 19:42

@yarnwitch Kindred Spirit 😂 in the frosted glass bottle!

mdinbc · 23/02/2024 20:49

Zen by Shiseido. They don't make it anymore, in fact they don't do fragrances at all anymore. I have the teeniest amount in a bottle and will have a sniff once in a while to riminess. Loved the back bottle with gold flowers as well.

I think I started wearing O de Lancome in the early 90's as well, which introduced me to fresh citrus/green scents. I'll have to find it again to see if I still like it.
