I can't work out if I have a cool undertone or neutral - what do you think? Thank you

Here is one more if anyone can help? It's Estée Lauder double wear I want to use if that makes a difference

Cool

Tallisker · 15/02/2024 19:10

Look at the veins at your wrist. Do they appear blue or green? If blue, you have cool tones, if green, warm.

Willowtree6 · 15/02/2024 19:13

@Tallisker i've got a mixture of blue and green 🙄

Cool

I think probably cool too but then some are almost too pink, I guess some are more pinky than others though so maybe just need to experiment?

Ah. Bugger. Sorry!

Rustygirl · 15/02/2024 19:21

I thought cool right away

tutttutt · 15/02/2024 20:14

I think you look pretty neutral. Pale neutral

tutttutt · 15/02/2024 20:16

Most foundations come in cool warm and neutral.

Annoyingly some brands like Mac and Haus Labs swap their cool and warm so warm is red and cool is yellow.

Most other brands do it the other way

Willowtree6 · 15/02/2024 20:52

Thanks everyone! It's confusing 😭 maybe I need a neutral ISH cool tone, or a cool ish neutral tone....,

I think there is a tendency to think you are cool because you are very fair. Many people see pale skin and automatically think cool. But there are warm fair skins too. And neutral

WhereAreWeNow · 15/02/2024 21:41

I'd choose a neutral shade. I've got ELDW in a neutral.

sommeliermama · 15/02/2024 22:01

Your skin looks similar to mine so I would say neutral. Although I haven't used Estee Lauder, and every brand has a different range on cool/warm/neutral. Lots of foundations I think will look ok end up looking too pinkish so may be best to ask for a sample and see how it looks in different lighting?

Willowtree6 · 15/02/2024 22:10

Thank you everyone, I appreciate your thoughts

I would suggest getting properly matched for DW ,if it's wrong it looks like a mask,if it's the correct shade it's fabulous stuff. I also suggest asking for a sample to try at home in natural light, they're very generous with samples in my experience.

Ruthietuthie · 16/02/2024 00:56

You are cool, but I would go for the neutral as, as you note, the cool shades pull rather pink.

Appleblum · 16/02/2024 01:12

I think you're neutral. But it's very important to get a good match for double wear as otherwise it'll look very mask like on you. They have samples in sachets that they give out. I was initially matched to a W shade, then N, but found my perfect shade in C.

1clavdivs · 16/02/2024 08:38

I thought very neutral as soon as I saw the pics. When you said veins are a mix, that just confirms it. I think if you used a cool shade you'd look slightly flushed.

Willowtree6 · 16/02/2024 11:02

Great, thank you all so much, I'm off to the shops Tomorrow 😊

Is there a specific reason for wanting DW? It's very matte and very full coverage. It's tricky to make look skin like. You have lovely skin that doesn't call for such a heavy foundation at all. There are so many amazing foundations out there now with lasting power that look more skin like.

I just want one that stays the same all day and doesn't disappear or seperate, but definitely want it to look like skin. What would you recommend? I'm open to ideas as long as it is long wearing 😊

I've tried them all, DW applied almost like a concealer,so minimally with a buffing brush doesn't shift. Everything else pales in comparison but you have to get the right shade, that's key.

SirChenjins · 16/02/2024 12:28

Your skin tone looks identical to mine (hard to say for certain from a photo) and I also have the same green/blue veins. Hair is dark blond and eyes are hazel, if that's any help. I wear DW 2N1 in desert beige and it's the perfect match (I was matched at an Estee Lauder counter) - applied and buffed with a foundation brush and it stays all day.

RosieCockle · 16/02/2024 13:07

If youre going to the shops, EL give you a sample of DW to take away that should last you 10 days. I still re-fill the tiny bottle to keep in my bag. Might be confusing it with Boots, but I think they have a machine to match your skin tone. In any case, it will be better done in person than online here. I love DW by the way. Apply it with a damp sponge, dont use loads and it wont be cakey.
