Are you familiar with Reiker shoes?

I'm trying to buy some new fashion trainers and 'Reiker' brand has appeared on my radar. I have fibromyalgia and so my feet hurt in some of the normal trainers or after I've been walking for a while. 'Gabor' has some fantastic ones that are so comfortable but dead pricey! i noticed the Reiker brand coming up and they look more affordable. I just wondered how they compare with Gabor? are they as soft? i bought what i thought was a nice pair of Levi's trainers recently and when i tried them on (ordered online) the soles were as hard as rock and had to return them. What type of brand would you say Reiker is ?

I had some leather boots from Reiker. I think they mostly do fake leather but these were actual leather and they were great. Soft, comfy, well stitched, and lasted years.

Would you say their boots (although im not buying boots) are just as comfy as Gabor or are you comparing them to standard brands? I'm asking cos I'm looking for a brand similar to Gabor that's made with extra foot comfort in mind but not fuddy-duddy ifyswim.

I meant compared to other brands. I did try on some Gabor boots once but found them really uncomfortable, so I guess all that tells you is that it's very personal! You'll have to try some on I guess!

DrCoconut · 08/02/2024 13:45

I had some reiker boots a few years ago. They were warm and comfortable, I liked how they looked and I got almost 3 winters out of them.

LadeOde · 08/02/2024 14:05

Thanks for the comments. Sorry i should've mentioned 'Trainers' in the title. Hoping someone who has bought their trainers comes along.

I also have fibro and Reiker and Remonte (same company) boots and trainers are all I wear now. Have never tried Gabor I’m afraid but everything else hurts my feet including hotter and Clark’s.

Riverlee · 08/02/2024 14:13

Never tried Gabor but I find Reiker are comfortable.

LadeOde · 08/02/2024 14:20

@nicky2512 Glad someone with fibro has posted, everything just hurts doesn't it?

@Riverlee Is it their trainers you tried??

I have arthritis in both feet. It's very painful if the front of my foot bends so I adjust and try to put pressure on the back/sides of my feet.

This has altered weight distribution and I get hip/lower back pain as a 'knock on' effect.

My podiatrist recommended Hoka trainers. Some styles have a carbon footplate which rocks the foot forward.

They're very comfortable - I feel like I can relax a little and walk more normally now.

I wear Gabor flat shoes but haven't tried their trainers.

The podiatrist also said that worst trainer to wear when people have problems with their feet were the ones I turned up in for the appointment - they were a new pair as well 🙄

AgathaX · 08/02/2024 14:47

MyOtherCarIsAPorsche - which brand did you turn up in?

I have various feet issues and really struggle to find comfortable and supportive footwear that doesn't look awful. For trainers I find New Balance hard to beat. They have good support and appear to be well recommended by podiatrists.

LadeOde · 08/02/2024 14:48

@MyOtherCarIsAPorsche That sounds really painful! I just had a look at those Hoka trainers and boy are they pricey! even in the sale they are over £100.

I like the Gabor ones because they are fashion/going out trainers. I already have comfortable walking trainers but it's when I'm all dressed up that i have the conundrum of what to wear on my feet? the Gabor range is dressy but Reiker have a few as well that i like.

Mens and Ladies Footwear from Rieker
DM has a pair of shoes from Rieker. She loves them and says she get compliments on them every time she wears them.

Rieker N4921 Ladies Shoes - Rieker Ladies - Footwear from Rieker UK UK might suit you @LadeOde

DuchessOfSausage · 08/02/2024 14:57

Women's Casual Trainers | Women's Casual Shoes | SKECHERS UK quite a choice

Note the spelling of Skechers and Rieker. Useful if looking for them on auction sites.

Dapbag · 08/02/2024 15:01

I've had bunion surgery and have difficult feet.

I find Josef Siebel shoes/trainers much more comfortable than Reiker. Price is comparable I think.

Can I also recommend you see a podiatrist. A podiatrist made me some orthotics to wear in all my shoes and it has made such a difference to my comfort levels and my life.

DuchessOfSausage · 08/02/2024 15:02

Josef Seibel shoes are great.

Edited for misspelling of Seibel. See my pp.

Dapbag · 08/02/2024 15:05

@DuchessOfSausage Rieker shoes seem hard and unyielding compared to Josef Seibel.

I have two pairs of short reiker books. They are amazing. really comfortable and everyone seems to like how they look. I love them!

DuchessOfSausage · 08/02/2024 15:17

@Dapbag , they're not in the same league are they.
@Riverlee , hate open toe sandals. Me too. I'll wear open toe ones if my toes are protected.

LadeOde · 08/02/2024 15:34

Thanks all for these great recommendations. I thought about Skechers but then dismissed it, will definitely look at them again. I have a pair of Josef Seibel boots (AMAZING!), didn't know they did trainers. I've had NB trainers when they first came out and they were great but hate the new shape they made after that looks taken in at the sides. I'll look into all these again.

I'm on my 4th pair of Riekers, all different, from summery shoes to chunky ankle boots, although no trainers. So it's worth giving them a try. They tend to be light to wear and well padded. Very comfortable.

@nicky2512 Glad someone with fibro has posted, everything just hurts doesn't it?

@Riverlee Is it their trainers you tried??

Exactly - everything always hurts! My feet are the opposite end to my worst problem at the minute. I have a sore jaw that won’t shift! No one has dared suggest that I talk less (yet!).
My feet are always sore and comfy shoes are a must. Reiker def work for me - I have shoes, trainers and boots. Remonte too. I have had some good bargains from their own website and also have a few local independent shops that stock them too.

nicky2512 · 08/02/2024 19:01

I have the pair @DuchessOfSausage linked. They are great.
