M&S wide leg trousers washed and shrunk

Bought a pair of these a few weeks ago and washed them as per the washing instructions - they have now shrunk in length. I have a red pair that I am yet to wash and they are a good 3/4 cms shorter than them.
Has this happened to you? Is it to be expected? I have the long length so cannot buy them any longer. They are flapping around my ankles.

I find M&S always shrink at least one size - I'm on the shorter side so shrinking does me a favour once and a while and then wide legs actually fit! That being said I had a stripe hoody which came up really large even on a size small to the point I had to fold the cuffs over so it fit my arms - after 2 washes no more folding cuffs and it feels at least 2 sizes smaller

They are made of viscose, it requires ironing to return to it's original size.

I ironed them across and lengthways and they are still short.

Take them back for a refund.

I've basically stopped buying m&s unless it's polyester as anything in a natural fabric shrinks beyond what is reasonable. I do wish shops would preshrink their fabrics/garments.

I've never had anything from M&S that's shrunk. Usually wash on a 30C or 40C. Is this something new?

I’ve got 7 or 8 pairs of M&S trousers and none of them have shrunk. I would definitely take them back.

I'd say it's worse in the last 12 months

I only ever wash on 30/40 and still see a fair amount of shrinkage - only on certain items of clothing though

I brought two pair of trousers like those over two years ago (I think) the black faded so bad after just one wash on a 40, and shrank the navy I never wear as I wonder if the same will happen, I haven't brought any trousers from them since

Take them back. What temp did you use? I wash them on 30 and air dry them.

M&S stuff shrinks badly. I bought my husband a load of plain T-shirts and they all got too short after a wash

M&s refunded me for shrunk baby clothes.

I'd ask for a refund, they should be good for it.

I have leggings from m&s years ago and they are still shrinking. They was short and I'm 5,4 and they are above my ankle boots now

My adult dd had the same thing happen. I'm a short-arse, so a bit of length shrinking is usually all for the good for me.

You should definitely take them back.

Last summer I bought two pairs of wide leg linen trousers… both shrank. I took them back and was refunded with no issues.

Yep 3 pairs of their pjs. All shrank.

Gosh, this is standard for M&S then. They’re going back for a refund, hope I can find my receipt.
