Do any of those viral bodyshapers actually work?

You know the type - some overly excited girl opens a package containing what looks like a toddlers swimsuit, only to put it on and lose 3 dress sizes?!

I look up all the companies that catch my eye on Insta etc, on Trustpilot, to no avail almost every time, so I think a lot of them are probably scams, but wondered if anyone has any recommendations?

Or do I need to bite the bullet and go down the Spanx/Skims route?

I've got a shaper mint body suit. It's good. But not as good as insta would have you believe. I would purchase again however!

Matter is neither created nor destroyed! So they can't remove parts of your body. They can smooth, flatten and lift.

MyLibrarywasdukedomlargeenough · 08/01/2024 15:23

I would imagine they are uncomfortable and unhealthy as squashing you.

This! Even Spanx don't work miracles... they just move body fat elsewhere. I remember my friend's mum being very disappointed when her amazing control knickers made her bum and thighs look great but her stomach developed some extra rolls...

There was a similar thread recently where the verdict was that M&S shapewear is the best option, decent quality, price and results

I think Conturve high waist pants or boy shorts are the best. I have bought one of the suits you are talking about from Amazon and sent it back, was not worth £50.
but yeh they just smooth you. One of my daughters works at JL and they stock a bodysuit that is supposed to drop a dress size (the stylists use it a lot) but it’s gonna have to go somewhere

AnnaMagnani · 08/01/2024 17:24

I have an M&S bodyshaping slip. While it doesn't get rid of anything, it stops it wobbling and bulging.

Works brilliantly.

suki1964 · 08/01/2024 17:32

If you are fat, the fat has to go somewhere and no compression garment is going to dissolve it, its just going to squidge out somewhere else

I do wear a marks and spencers wear your own bra body suit under occasion dresses , for the smooth line, no back boob and no underwear lines . Im not slim, Im not fat, just a lot of wobbly bits from getting old

Back when I was younger I too bought into the idea I could loose a dress size wearing one, and was most disappointed that it didnt work

AnnaMagnani · 08/01/2024 18:13

Snap @suki1964

I think we have the same item. I didn't think it would work after having had unreasonable expectations of what a garment could do when I was younger and fatter.

As I say, just under occasion wear, makes a dress just sit better , certainly wouldn't allow me to fit a smaller size, just makes the size I am look a darn sight nicer. I like that one, I do have shorts and a slip, the best as its easy on and off and easy to go to the toilet :)

@PlipPlopChoo except that wasn’t the question OP asked?

Mirabai · 09/01/2024 23:44

Bloody uncomfortable all of them, and very unsexy, it’s easier just to be thin.

Anonymouslyposting · 10/01/2024 10:17

I’ve just been persuaded into buying a skims body suit by too much time watching reels… will report back when it arrives.

Purplepeopleeaterz · 11/01/2024 08:38

I love the Skims bodysuits, they even lift my non existent square bottom!

Perhaps not easier because you know that takes effort, but certainly the more sensible idea.

Also did you have to google the names and exact bit of dialogue or do you have it in notes, ready to copy and paste, every time you feel like Jack Nicholsons gobby cunt character?!

RowanMayfair · 02/02/2024 08:34

All the women in the ads are shapely. Even the larger women have nice hourglass figures. I wouldn't be buying one of those anyway but I checked the comments out of interest and the consensus is they are ok but don't work miracles and don't contain enough belly. For any woman with a wonky shape (personally I am apple shaped) the suit won't work as you'll have bits that aren't covered or held in. The thought of my belly oozing out of the tiny front bit is equally 😆 and 😭

I have a shapewear slip for wearing under dresses which is great for smoothing but doesn't squish uncomfortably.

Mate.
The OP was asking about shapewear. At a certain point in life no matter if you are a healthy weight or not you are likely to have some lumpy bits on your body. You can be a healthy weight but also want to smooth your belly or whatever. Diet and exercise isn't going to give most women a smooth shapely curvy body, whereas shapewear can give the illusion temporarily. Why assume the OP was asking how to lose weight when there is no reason to believe that's the case?
