Saw some pics of the inevitable Next boring day sale queues in the press today and it struck me that I've never bought anything there. I'm 40 so probably their target demographic ? It's a store I'd never think to go in, these days, it's just not for me.

I guess I buy a lot of H&M, Cos, Uniqlo, Arket and Vinted for LF markey/ Ganni /
toast etc. Undies and thermals from M&S.

Also Next. Used to buy dd clothes there when she was little, but nothing since about 2010.

lindyloo57 · 26/12/2023 17:27

I do buy from next, but online usually in the Clearance sale, and I buy from brands, they do lots of different ones, mint velvet, river island lots more.

BeaRF75 · 26/12/2023 17:38

Most of them, tbh. Don't shop in Next, Primark, H&M, Zara etc.
It's usually only John Lewis, a couple of online brands, M&S ( but only for knickers and food).
Mind you, I hate shopping....

TitaniasAss · 26/12/2023 17:51

Cos, uniqlo, river island. Haven't found anything in any of them for bloody ages.

oneflewoverthe · 26/12/2023 17:53

River island. I used to buy as a teenager from there 20 years ago and I still have that idea in my head. Overpriced tat that never fitted properly.

TheCatfordCat · 26/12/2023 17:55

Matalan. Uniqlo. Zara. I can't fit into anything.

Only go to M&S for undies really.

Newsenmum · 26/12/2023 17:55

Primark. So cheap but also not that cheap anymore, if that’s makes sense. I actually quite like Next, one of the few places that seem to have normal clothes!

Oh yeah they’re really crap!

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 26/12/2023 17:55

Not a shop per say but we're on the east mids and a few years ago an independent coffee shop opened selling mediocre cake and coffee. It was always so busy. God the coffee, twas an abomination. Like dishwater.

They now have a two more branches in the city centre and are always absolutely heaving.

I'm amazed so many people like slightly stale cake and shite coffee Confused

wishIwasonholiday10 · 26/12/2023 18:01

Also Next plus H&M (except the baby clothes which I quite like) and Primark. Also won’t touch Shein and Temu etc on ethical and quality grounds (I realise they are not the only offenders but they do have even less oversight over supply chains and less quality control compared to other brands).

brawnthesheep · 26/12/2023 18:03

Loads Primark, Shein, Boohoo, Next, River Island, M&s never bought anything except underwear & hosiery.

Next isn't open today.

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 26/12/2023 18:11

I've never bought anything from Zara, Primark, H&M, Hush, Mint Velvet, Uniqlo, Matalan, River Island, White Stuff, Arket, & Other Stories, Mango, Reiss, Scamp & Dude, Superdy, the Kooples, Sezanne, Shein, Boohoo, Joe Brown, Sosander, SilkFred.

Last bought anything in Next probably 30 year's ago.

I have occasionally bought from Whistles, and Jigsaw but not recently. Used to buy a lot from Cos, Brora and Hobbs but nothing recently.

H&M. Always feels like a tatty jumble sale to me, no matter which branch I go to.

tillyandmilly · 26/12/2023 18:17

Next is very mediocre!

Roselilly36 · 26/12/2023 18:18

Next, can’t remember the last time I went in there.

Indeed. Whatever queues the OP saw pictures of (Lush? Selfridges ? Zara?), it certainly wasn't Next's.

Sleeplessinseattle234 · 26/12/2023 18:23

I buy from next as I hate buying online. And we have a very large next outside of the town centre. So I generally go there.

thefallen · 26/12/2023 18:25

Shein, Boohoo, PLT, Zara. All horrible from an ethical/environmental perspective, plus the clothes are mostly tat that falls apart after three washes.

No you didn't https://www.bracknellnews.co.uk/news/24011097.will-next-stores-uk-open-boxing-day-2023/

Will Next stores in the UK be open on Boxing Day 2023?

The Next Boxing Day sale has seen long queues forming from the early hours across the country in previous years, but things will be different in…

thenightsky · 26/12/2023 18:29

I remember taking 13 year old DD to the Next Boxing Day sale as she begged me. It was back in the very late 90s. We got a fab load of stuff and her street cred with a peers was (apparently) improved. Up at 5am to join to the 6am queue round the block if I remember correctly.

PurpleChrayne · 26/12/2023 18:32

Any shops who don't know what a woman is and why one might require single-sex changing rooms.

Bearpawk · 26/12/2023 18:33

Ok @PickAChew it must have been an article about previous year queues. I didn't read it but was just scrolling. It was definitely people queueing outside a next - I remember in my local city people queuing at 6am for the sale: it was always in the paper

Anything super cheap and fast fashion (Shein, Boohoo, PLT, Miss Pap, Nasty Gal, etc). On ethical grounds but also don’t fancy gambling with the quality.

Toast, Lucy & Yak, Joanie, Joe Browns, Popsy, All Saints - none of which are my vibe.

ChateauDuMont · 26/12/2023 18:46

Next clothing. Bloody awful.
