Am I going to look ridiculous?

It's my sports club Christmas party, not fancy, at a WMC although our members aren't WMC people, on the whole.

It's Christmas, I'd like to dress up a bit, although probably not strictly necessary.

I have this dress, I know its a bit middle aged try hard and dated, but it's comfy, fits well and feels good on. My shoulders are a good feature and I have decent legs. Plus I don't have time to look at other options.

I was thinking with opaque tights and chunky ankle boots, or maybe bare fake tanned legs and the chunky boots?

Lovely dress! It's quite dressy though so might be a bit much. But if you like it and feel good in it go for it!

XmasCrumble · 07/12/2023 12:46

I think it will look lovely and if you love it and feel comfortable that's the main thing! No better excuse than Xmas to dress up a bit so you won't look out of place, wear it and enjoy your night out! :)

usernother · 07/12/2023 12:49

Lovely dress but I wouldn't wear it with chunky ankle boots. I think strappy heels would look better.

SlothOfDespair · 07/12/2023 12:59

Showing my age here...but.... are you going to be warm enough?????

At a party? Being too hot is usually the problem? I'll wear my big coat.

I mostly like the idea of the chunky boots because I'll be walking there and back.

Lovely dress but I would not wear it with boots. Wear boots to travel there and take your shoes in a bag.

platinumplus · 07/12/2023 13:07

Chunky boots would not go with this.

Either keep the boots and wear something more casual

or

Keep the dress and wear heels or fancy flats.

Wahtnow · 07/12/2023 13:07

Hmm, I don't know, I think party shoes will be too much. I generally avoid uncomfortable shoes, so friends are used to seeing me in mid heel chunky boots with most things, it's my "style". 😆

I also have some navy suede, more formal, block heeled ankle boots...

The chunky boot idea is too out of kilter with the dress. Do you have other options OP?

Can I say it's a beautiful dress? It is. I don't think chunky boots would go with it as I would describe that dress as a 'delicate' dress and not really suited to wearing heavy boots with it.
The first pair of shoes that @Xiaoxiong posted are gorgeous (so much so I think I might order them for me for Christmas day) and would be perfect with the dress.

Someone else posted recently about wanting to wear flat shoes (or low heel) and I posted a few options for them. If I can find the thread, I'll post it here so you can see the type of shoes/boots I was suggesting to them.

Dress is lovely but cries out for strappy, elegant shoes. Boots would look ridiculous. Wear something else.

Lilibert456 · 07/12/2023 13:37

Just see magenta dress. Again it is lovely but biker boots FGS!

Really? If you Google slip dress with biker boots, loads of images come up. I don't know if I love them all, but it's not a completely way out idea. It's definitely done a lot.

The dresses are fine. If you are determined to wear boots with one of them would you like to borrow my wellies?

I have some very nice green Hunters you are welcome to borrow.

Xiaoxiong · 07/12/2023 13:42

I was about to say that the slip dress I can see with the biker jacket and boots, that's definitely a "look" and would work! but not the halter neck one.

Itajustagig · 07/12/2023 13:44

The magenta dress will look gorgeous with boots

BitchyHen · 07/12/2023 13:50

Yes to the slip dress and boots, very 90s grunge!

ferretface · 07/12/2023 13:51

The slip dress works well with the biker jacket and boots but the other one will look mismatched imo. It's not easy to style the other one to make it more casual.

MerryChristmasToYou · 07/12/2023 14:51

They are green Dunlops. Crocs with socks are very trendy.

LookItsMeAgain · 07/12/2023 15:10

The magenta dress is gorgeous but I don't understand the desire to wear biker/heavy boots with these gorgeous dresses.

If you feel you must wear biker boots, they would probably look better with the magenta dress than the blue one.
