Best foundation for coverage of Rosacea

Duh · 03/12/2023 10:35

I have rosacea on my nose and cheeks and have never found a liquid foundation that gives good coverage.

I have quite pale Celtic skin on the rest of my face which makes it a bit tricky as the contrast is quite extreme.

Does anyone have any recommendations for an excellent liquid foundation that has good coverage. Maybe one that works well on covering scars of tattoos?

I have a decent green ‘undercoat’ and find the Clinique yellow powder is quite effective but would love a good liquid foundation either to use with these products or (by some miracle) on its own.

I don’t mind spending a lot but ideally I would like a brand that is sub £25 if possible as I have spent a fortune on numerous foundations, serums etc to cover or reduce this and I have so many expensive mistakes.

Brands that haven’t worked include Trinny, Estée Lauder, Il Makiage and Clinique.

Also I appreciate people may have advice about treating rosacea but would be grateful if we can stick to foundation recommendations, I have had this condition for years and nothing cosmetic or medical has worked and people’s tips, however well intentioned, just get me down these days as trust me I will have already tried it. I fully accept I am stuck with it and just want to feel confident in covering it up without bankrupting myself!

Thanks in advance!

I have lupus and a lot of broken capillary type redness on my cheeks which has gotten worse as I've aged, Erborian CC anti-redness and their BB crème - I used shade clair is great as it's fairly light but you can build it in the areas you need it, I don't like a whole face of visible makeup so it's perfect.

theemmadilemma · 04/12/2023 19:22

Rosalique! Changed my life.

So quick as I just use it where needed and I'm done with my base. (I admit I wouldn't wear coverage if it wasn't for my rosacea.) I've never found anything that works to well personally.

Radiatorvalves · 04/12/2023 19:25

Another vote for Rosalique. I see an advertisement has popped up in the thread 🤨 but I do think it’s really good. Just don’t put moisturiser under it… you look peely. Straight onto clean skin it works well.

Vinoveritass · 04/12/2023 19:27

I've found best combo is rosalique green base then I use bare minerals liquid foundation. If I build this up carefully it provides good coverage and doesn't look dry. I use Cetaphil cleanser, daytime factor 50 moisturizer and the rich night cream. My skin is the best it's been using this combo. Soolantra also didn't work for me

Easterdaffsx · 04/12/2023 22:50

I have always used Clinique CC cream as a base
Then cover with Clinique foundation and completely covers mine
Not drying and I think it's the cc cream on the t zone amd cheeks that does the trick .

JlL2013 · 04/12/2023 23:07

Another vote for Rosalique. Use this day to day and Double wear when going out out.

Rainraingoaway21 · 04/12/2023 23:11

Estee Lauder camouflage make-up (in the blue bottle) Best for covering pigmentation and scars, great coverage.

NellyWest · 04/12/2023 23:17

Erborian CC is my everyday slap it on, and IT cosmetics cc cream if I need heavier coverage. The trick to keeping it on I find is a good layer of setting powder over the top! Yet to find a god concealer that isn’t super drying for bad red days!!

milkysmum · 04/12/2023 23:18

Honestly this is fantastic and less than £6!!

Not liquid but Bare Minerals powder is like a magic eraser for me. Go to a store with a counter where they can show you how to apply it.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 04/12/2023 23:33

I'm presuming you tried Double Wear but how did you apply it? Application is key.

Colinorpercy · 04/12/2023 23:40

I agree, I recently tried various alternatives to doublewear as I felt it was caking into my lines a bit. Tried a multitude of alternatives but none of them have the same coverage and long wear as doublewear. I’ve started ensuring I prime properly and use less product and I’m back to loving it again. I use a flat headed brush and dab it in working quickly.

Sorry I was replying to @MrsPelligrinoPetrichor

I second this! I think the original is better than the matte because it gives a bit of glow. I'm a Fairly Light, which has been having supply issues for ages, but I just bought one in the Cult Beauty BF sale so hopefully it's back in the shops too.

Lily Lilo (also powder) was not a bad substitute though not quite such good coverage. It also has some paler colours than Bare Minerals. You can get samples to help find your shade.

Hi there op.
Have you tried the Erborian foundation?
As I have the same problem as you. I have spent years trying to find something that will cover my roseacea.
So was hoping you would feedback on this product. As I am inbetween this and Rosalique.
Thanks

Duh · 07/12/2023 15:47

Hello I tried the Erborian cc cream. I can see it’s a good product but it took a lot of coats to cover my rosacea so I didn’t find it a miracle product for me. My redness is quite severe on my nose and cheek though and if I had a less severe case it would probably be enough.

However I tried thePheora foundation recommended by @milkysmum that is £6.99 on Amazon today. Oh wow, one coat and my face looked perfect! Full disclosure, if I didn’t have rosacea would it feel a little heavy and cakey -perhaps a little yes. But as a total cover up in one application this is brilliant. It’s lasted all day including a rainy, windy dog walk where I had to blow my nose repeatedly. Didn’t shift. This is exactly what I was hoping for and I am so grateful to have found a product that is so effective and so cheap.

Thank you everyone for their recommendations, especially @milkysmum , this could be a real game changer for me!!

IT Cosmetics CC cream (developed originally for rosacea) and Estée Lauder Double Wear Nude foundation are my two favourites. And a monthly subscription to Dermatica which has been a game changer.

RudsyFarmer · 07/12/2023 15:51

I’d love to know which red light mask you use.

milkysmum · 07/12/2023 16:47

Oh I'm so glad it worked well for you OP. It really is good for the price isn't it.

Duh · 07/12/2023 17:10

@milkysmum I can’t stop looking at my unblemished face! I haven’t had 100% coverage for years. I forgot what I looked like without redness. Thank you so very much :)

Another vote for it cosmetics cc cream.
This link shows it being used by someone with rosacea which may be helpful.

Newmum110 · 07/12/2023 17:15

Also recommend Dermablend, I have terrible pigmentation which it successfully covers. As other posters have said you have to buy online at the moment as they are recreating it (I hope they don't change it too much) so it has been removed from the shelves. Also very reasonable price.

Duh · 03/01/2024 14:30

Just thought I’d post an update after nearly a month in case anyone with rosacea ever comes across this thread.

The Pheora Foundation has been brilliant. I have worn it everyday and it provides full coverage in one application. Crucially this repeated daily use hasn’t caused my rosacea to worsen nor has it given me spots which some foundations, particularly strong thick ones like this, have done in the past.

When I visited family and friends for Christmas they actually thought my rosacea had been cured so I guess it must look pretty natural.

While I would of course love a cure I will take this cover up as an absolute gift, it is only now I feel so bloody wonderful about my nose and cheeks looking normal that I realise how much it got me down before.

If I was being hyper picky I would say the smell of the foundation isn’t great (it’s slightly chemically) but you only smell it when you put it on and it quickly goes. To be fair if they added a fragrance to counter the smell then that would likely irritate the rosacea or give me spots so I am fine with it how it is.

Anyway I just wanted to follow up and say thank you to everyone who made recommendations, I am so glad I posted here!

I loved that foundation but it really flared up my skin, so glad you found something that works for you OP.

NellyWest · 03/01/2024 20:01

Can I ask how you apply? Brush/fingers/sponge? I just always find foundation looks dry and cakey over my red cheeks (this is why I stick to erborian as can dash it on with my fingers quickly)
