My sister said Im lucky as its outside so a warm coat etc will hide what Im wearing underneath. I would like some glitter showing somewhere though. I have no idea wha the weather will be like in Edinburgh. It is a concert outside. I cant wait. Ive tried Uniqlo but im too chunky for their coats.plus, im in London for most of the year so goosedown wont get used.

Get a broach for your coat - a nice festive one , then get some spray glitter for your hair and coat ….youll look great

Timeforallthecheese · 30/11/2023 19:54

You will definitely need a warm coat, hat, gloves and a scarf. The weather is likely to be freezing or in the minuses. It might be a few degrees warmer but pissing down with rain and windy. Edinburgh weather changes in seconds. Jeans and boots are good. No one will see the sparkles but you could see if you could get sparkles in your hat, gloves or scarf?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 30/11/2023 19:57

I saw somebody the other day wearing a woolly winter hat with sequins - grey, with silver sequins.

EachandEveryone · 30/11/2023 20:00

Anyone seen any nice coats?

It’s good fun if you’ve never been before. Are you going to do the markets and other Christmas events that are on? Take an across body bag. You don’t want anything over the shoulder or rucksack. Where are you staying?

SirChenjins · 30/11/2023 20:17

I live in Edinburgh - it's chunky boots, warm socks, jeans, big coat, big scarf, hat and gloves, and layer thermals and jumpers. It's so cold here at the moment, minus 3 or 4 according to the forecast but it feels colder imo. I'm v envious of you, it'll be great (providing the weather holds!) YY to the cross body bag as a pp said.

BinkyBeaufort · 30/11/2023 20:17

Can I recommend thermal tights to go under your jeans, which won't keep your legs warm enough on their own. Edinburgh cold can be punishing.

EachandEveryone · 30/11/2023 20:18

Everything was just so expensive and theres five of us so a funny number. Weve found an apartmeny Nether Bakehouse, Old Town if that makes any sense

If you opt for jeans make sure to wear a pair of thermal leggings underneath. And some of those ultra warm socks, as standing for hours on the pavements really makes the cold seep into your feet.

I'd go for thermal base layer, cords, thermal socks, boots, thermal long sleeved top, gilet, coat, bright scarf and beret and gloves.

Have fun!

SirChenjins · 30/11/2023 20:22

You're right in the thick of it if you're at Nether Bakehouse, it'll be a great atmosphere there.

Ladypugs60 · 30/11/2023 20:25

Winter white a.k.a. ivory always looks incredibly glamourous. It's more of a neutral colour than a pastel.

MissBuffyAnneSummers · 30/11/2023 20:46

For Edinburgh at Hogmanay you need

Thermals
Thick socks
Boots (walking boots ideal)
Jeans
Warm long sleeved top
Fleece
Big coat
Big scarf
Hat
Gloves
Hot hands

Being warm and dry is the top priority.

ProvisionsOnTheDock · 30/11/2023 20:52

I also live in Edinburgh and there is not a chance in hell you would get me out on the streets on Hogmanay. Change your plans to something indoors and thank me later.

Pulp are my favourite band and is the point of our getaway. Im not planning on pulling an all nighter. Ive had abit of a blah year and in January I should be rejoining the work force after been sick for a year so I really, really want to celebrate and have hopes for a better 2024. My dad was a drinker and from Edinburgh so my childhood memories are of him arguing with my mother that we dont know how to do New Year are still fresh in my mind😃

for locals we are there until the 2nd what would be your suggestions for breakfast etc?

As others have said, warm layers. Whatever colour your winter coat is, splurge on a nice hat, scarf and glove set in a bright flattering colour. Add a sparkly brooch to your hat, I do!

Also pack a fold up umbrella in case of drizzle.

Don’t be a misery. I live in Edinburgh and while the place drives me nuts in August and December, everyone should experience Hogmanay once. I’d never do it again but pulp would be a draw.

ChilliPB · 01/12/2023 07:29

I also live in Edinburgh, it’s cold at the moment and you should be prepared for temperatures close to or below freezing overnight. Agree with others that layers, and a big coat, hat and scarf are needed. Definitely be prepared for rain too so a waterproof coat with a hood might be best (maybe better than an umbrella in crowds?). If you wanted something sparkly maybe a hat or something with sequins or similar on.

I’m sure you’ll have lots of fun, especially if you’re dressed nice and warm. Edinburgh is a great city.

MelsMoneyTree · 01/12/2023 07:37

I know someone suggested cream but tbh I wouldn't wear a light colour. There's always the possibility of drinks getting spilt on you. It's busy and chaotic.
Layer up and focus on being warm. Get a nice hat, scarf and gloves but preferably a waterproof hat. Or a coat with a hood. Or a parka. What kind of budget do you have?

Iggi999 · 01/12/2023 07:42

How about a glittery head band

M&S have some sequinned trousers atm. Wide-legged too, so you can fit their Heatgen leggings underneath them.
