Go on, honest opinions! I liked them last year but they were out of stock. Are they a bit...blokey for a night out or smarter dressing?

I think you should get them if you like them and if they go with the rest of your look.

They wouldn't suit me, but we're just randoms on MN, you do you :)

Justkoko · 29/11/2023 17:38

Well I will say I quite like an androgynous shoe. Never been one for stilettos or even heels really and an old ankle injury means I never will.

I absolutely hate that style of shoe. But can see they might be a good way to dress down a black dress and opaque tights.

thedevilinablackdress · 29/11/2023 18:08

Not my bag (my feet don't get on with loafers) but I'd admire them on someone else.

Headband · 29/11/2023 18:11

I'm old so what do I know, but I'd feel a bit Showaddywaddy if I wore them . However, I do like them!

KissTheRains · 29/11/2023 18:13

They look a bit like what they used to call "Brothel Creepers" but ones that Hugh Heffner designed.

Other than that, I hate them.
But I'm 44, overweight and have hooves for feet... So... Wtf do I know.

39and · 29/11/2023 18:14

I like them!

Justkoko · 29/11/2023 18:15

Oh no...showaddywaddy...brothel creepers...😱

Would prefer black though

Justkoko · 29/11/2023 18:19

I need some comfy 'going out' shoes or ankle boots. Low heel or no heel. Maybe black if im going conservative. I'm drawn to dr martens as I find the soles so comfortable.

Any other suggestions?

KissTheRains · 29/11/2023 18:21

I think it's the Doc Marten Sole that does it.

Loafers should have a smaller, thinner sole iyswim. The thick Doc Marten Sole gives it a different vibe that strays close to Brothel Creepers.

But that's just me, obviously.

Dr martens Chelsea boots are nice. I've ordered a secondhand pair from eBay

SquashPenguin · 29/11/2023 18:22

I love them 😍

Bootoagoose123 · 29/11/2023 18:23

I properly love them! Go for it!

How about:

I think they're pretty.. I am not stylish . 🤣

The Artist - Black & Gold

The Artist is the perfect way to express yourself. The traditional brogue styling still retains a feminine flare while the colours and textures say, 'I like the attention'. Each shoe is hand crafted from high quality European leather and suede, inside...

I don't like them at all - they look just like men's shoes. I suppose you could get away with them with trousers but they would look dreadful with a skirt.

thedevilinablackdress · 30/11/2023 08:58

I love those brothel creepers @KissTheRains and I wholly disagree about the shoes with a skirt @Growlybear83 So we all have different tastes and style, which is great! These threads on MN are generally 50/50 so go with your heart OP. Do you love them?

TizerorFizz · 30/11/2023 09:11

Loafers look better with cigarette pants. Nothing wrong with the SMs. M&S have great loafers at the moment. Lots around. Boots are better with dresses. Plenty of Chelsea boots everywhere. I think suede is better for evening.

MerryChristmasToYou · 30/11/2023 11:43

I don't find loafers comfortable. The plum uppers of those are a nice colour but I don't like the snaffle. The soles and uppers don't match. The yellow ones are not nice at all.

If you like them and will wear them, get them

TizerorFizz · 30/11/2023 17:50

How can all loafers be uncomfortable? Some are soft leather. Some more structured. There are so many to choose from. They are a great style for smart casual.

MerryChristmasToYou · 30/11/2023 17:52

@TizerorFizz , feet vary in shape. The loafers don't allow for any adjustment like lace-ups do.

TizerorFizz · 30/11/2023 18:19

Soft leather ones mould to your feet. More comfortable than brogues in my view. I have wide feet and M&S wide fit loafers are great. Can’t be bothered with laces!

MadKittenWoman · 30/11/2023 18:43

If it's comfort you're after, couldn't you find something more attractive at Skechers?

KnickerlessParsons · 30/11/2023 18:45

I love them and have some very similar from M&S for about half that price.

Gherkingreen · 30/11/2023 18:50

I love a chunky flat shoe (I don't wear heels apart from an occasional low kitten as I'm nearly 6ft) - the purple velvet is gorgeous. I'm not keen on the moustache or the snaffle but the shape and chunk are lovely.
But, I do have a rep for loving a fugly (in other people's eyes) shoe so may not be the best judge.
