pmsl at this thread.
Today I shivered with pleasure going through a 7 yrs old issue of country living

moondog · 12/03/2008 21:27

I read People's Friend yesterday and enjoyed it.
Was in clinic waiting for my colleague to finish her appt. so stretched back in the waiting room and had a self indulgent 10 mins.

PeatBog · 12/03/2008 21:29

Yes, Toast is hopeless for real people. Is there a perfect catalogue that I have not found?

BoysOnToast · 12/03/2008 21:40

peoples friend?
peoples friend??

im not even sure what that is, but you are dissing my toast-love while being a peoplesfriend-fancier??! im quite sure peopels friend is more shit than toast. quite quite sure.

i quite enjoy a brief squint at 'The Lady'

SheherazadetheGoat · 12/03/2008 21:46

omg it is still going

SilentTerror · 12/03/2008 22:12

That skirt looks like Laura ashley curtains sherherazade. Sorry,I don't get Joules at all.

Vulgar · 12/03/2008 22:49

Toast is awful. Polish potato pickers were never a good look.

Peoples friend is a good comfort read. They always have a lurid watercolour of some wee scottish town on the cover. Looks sort of like a paint by numbers kit.

GetOrfMoiLand · 12/03/2008 22:53

for true aspiration porn, we need to start a campaign to bring back the Inspirations catalogue.

I used to love flicking through that.

moondog · 13/03/2008 08:23

Is that the one full of peach commodes, cunningly designed as vanity stools and ramps for overweight labradors?

PeatBog · 13/03/2008 09:33

Couldn't we do an MN catalogue, full of beautiful, quality and reasonably priced clothes on MNers in gorgeous-yet-ironic poses?

I'm thinking the perfect LBD with baby puke on shoulder, Dyson-ing in sexy trousers and heels, fabulous summer skirt, cocktail in hand, tantrum-ing toddler clutching legs ...

PrincessPeaHead · 13/03/2008 10:15

joules is awful
cross between boden and laura ashley with extra trimming

SheherazadetheGoat · 13/03/2008 10:16

really? i haven't bought anything but thought the girls stuff was cute.

SheherazadetheGoat · 13/03/2008 10:17

peatbog - we want aspirational. us lounging round together in a seaside shack eating cake with children and partners/grandparents in the background leaving us alone.

I liked the back page of the joules catalogue - kids eating ice cream in pretty dresses on steps of beach hut. Sigh. Makes you forget about the hell of getting melted ice cream off sandy hands armed with your last baby wipe, while the owner of said beach hut tells you to f* off because his 8'x6' shed cost him £120,000 and your kids are trespassing.

SheherazadetheGoat · 13/03/2008 10:30

nonsense - you love the boden catalogue esp the hotpotch swimsuits!

SheherazadetheGoat · 13/03/2008 10:31

lol wilber. you should live in scotland. it is too cold for the icecream to melt and any beach huts will get blown away.

wilbur · 13/03/2008 10:36

Ah yes, Scotland and aspirational beach wear don't really go well together. We have a similar problem when we go to Wales - picnicking in horizontal rain while the brightly-coloured towelling coverups stay firmly in the bag. Do you think The White Company does a thermos flask?
