What's your favourite perfume, and what does it remind you of?

I just got a brand new bottle of Jo Malone Orange Bitters for my birthday. It's a limited addition which is only sold this time of year and it just makes me so happy as it reminds me of my birthday and the run up to Christmas. I only wear it in the winter. I just had a little sniff of it before I got into bed, that's how happy it makes me 🙂

My summertime favourite is O de Lancome which just reminds me of beaches and summer holidays.

I love how much certain smells bring up such vivid memories. What's your favourite?

Old fashioned as anything but Youth Dew.
Reminds me of sitting next to my Grandma in the back of the car in New Years Day going to her sisters house for a posh tea.
I just love it and I’ll wear it for ever.

FindingMeno · 16/11/2023 23:25

A perfume you can't get any more, called Night Musk.
I could have happily worn it every day for the rest of my life, because it just felt like me.
Some perfumes just react with a person well and have great longevity.
It seems they always get discontinued or reformulated though!

I have a few:

Noa by Cacharel: Reminds me of going out clubbing aged 17/18 and all the ridiculous things that went with that - the snogs, the hangovers, the one night stands, the tiny skirts, the chicken fillet bras, the poker straight hair, the photos on an old fashioned camera, the 2am kebabs, the 3am punch-ups, the 6am skedaddles from some random blokes bed, the walks of shame.

Versace Red Jeans: Cheap as chips but reminds me of Friday nights as a teenager - trampolining then youth club, then as I got older it was just youth club, then youth club evolved to just sitting on the grey telecoms box drinking WKD, always trying to "get off" with the fittest chav.

Sensi by Armani: It's discontinued now but reminds me of a job I had when I was 19. I was friends with a couple of brilliant women there and one day one of them dropped her bottle of Sensi, it smashed and the smell was still lingering in the office when I left about 8 months later.

My favourite perfume is Bronze Goddess by Estée Lauder. To me it smells of holidays and romance, great sex, beautiful sunsets and dancing with cocktails, glistening soft tanned skin….. I mean I’ve never worn it on a holiday like that but that’s what the scent makes me think of! I absolutely love it.
I spray it on myself before I settle down for another extremely boring day in my office working from home - about as far as you can get from sun kissed skin and beautiful tanned men in skimpy swimwear

Me too!!!!

I like Dior Poison for a night out or Chanel Number 19 and Davidov Cool Water or Waves for daytime.

JenniferJupiterVenusandMars · 17/11/2023 06:07

Diorella by Dior, my first posh perfume and still my favourite.
Cabochard by Grès, my comfort perfume.

Tonight1 · 17/11/2023 06:08

Samsara reminds me of my best friend from childhood

Bananalanacake · 17/11/2023 06:13

YSL baby doll, the first perfume I bought for myself aged 21, it started off a perfume collection.

evryevrytime · 17/11/2023 06:24

Chanel number 19 because I wore it when I lived in Paris in my twenties and it reminds me of being there and being young and carefree.

Floofydawg · 17/11/2023 07:25

@KStockHERO I was right there with you - very descriptive!

Limited *edition, not addition 🤦🏼‍♀️

@FindingMeno Same here. The perfect "me" perfume always getting reformulated. Mine was Clinique Wrappings, which now smells shite.

My current "me" perfume is probably Le Labo Another 13: It has a sharp and joyful note.

Quite an interesting thread. Everyone has such diverse taste. Some of the fragrances mentioned genuinely make me feel bilious when i smell them, even though they are evocative of their era. We are all so different.Youth dew, does remind me of my grandma. Poison of the 80’s, and my mum wearing it and Bronze Goddess, well i wanted to like it, but just feel ill when i wear it. I love it on others though!

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 17/11/2023 07:53

My fragrances are Royal Princess Oud (eve)and English Oak and hazelnut(day) in the A/w.

Are the walk of shame, I was in my late teens in the late 1970,s early 1980,s and I did a lot of them remember meeting my Dad on the door step at 7am one morning and him just handing over his mug of tea and shaking his head o the shame, I would have been wearing YSL Opium . Funny I think we had so much more freedom then no social media to record all of the wild behaviour.

Ambertonix · 17/11/2023 08:11

I used to wear Gucci Envy but when they discontinued that i switched to Sarah Jessica Parker's Lovely. A lot cheaper but i love it.

RosesAndHellebores · 17/11/2023 08:17

Guerlain L'Heure Bleu reminds me of my grandma so it's evocative (so does the smell of horse to be fair) although on me it smells like harpic. She also wore Tweed and Shalimar.

Chanel No 5, of mother, dressed up for a night out, and Van Cleef & Arpels post mid 70s.

So the above are favourites for a sentimental reason. I've had different personal favourites over the years:

O de Lancome
Lancome Hypnose
Cartier Basler Vose
Estee Modern Muse eau de Parfum
Dior J'Adore (original)
Gucci Bloom and Flora eau de Parfum
Cartier La Panthere
Lancome La Vie Est Belle Iris (the new one)

Absolutely! I did and said some absolutely mad shit as a teenager which I'm very glad only exists in witnesses memories! If there were records at all, they were just 6x4 photos of unknown quality that you'd have to wait a week to have returned and that you could just destroy. Nowadays, youthful faux pas would be all over Tik Tok before you'd pulled your knickers up 😒

I came here to say Sensi. It was my go to perfume when I had a great job in my late 20s / early 30s in international event planning. Then I had kids and that was the end of that. I still have half a bottle that I sniff to hark back to those days. I’m sad it’s discontinued, otherwise I would be spraying it liberally and pretend I was young and carefree again.

Nanalisa60 · 17/11/2023 08:26

DIOR Dune Is still, one of my favourite smells, my now Dh of 25 years bought it for me it was the second gift he bought (the first being four new tyres for my car as on our first date he noticed the were in a dangerous state and asked me if he could borrow my car in next morning while I was at work, finished my shift and he came back with new tyres and Said he did not care if I did not want to see him again he could not let me and my kids be in the car with tyres that were dangerous) I knew he was a keeper after that. He now buys me Jo malone red roses as he says I’m his English rose (he is Scottish) I also love wearing L’Occitane Citrus Verbena as I take it on summer holidays reminds me of being it lovely sunny places.

FinallyFinalGirl · 17/11/2023 08:29

Cashmere Mist by Donna Karan. It smells exactly like you are wrapped up in the softest cashmere in front of a fire on a freezing winter evening.

FrenchandSaunders · 17/11/2023 08:29

@Nanalisa60 your DH sounds fab 🥰

Deathraystare · 17/11/2023 08:39

Mitsouko is my favourite but no memories attached to that.

I do however have fond memories of a trip to Holland and Belgium thanks to Ma Griffe (another favourite) I bought it there and my Aunt's favourite - Ginn Fizz by Lubin. I was very happy that I had found hers but as usual no thanks. She even denied it was 'her' perfume.! But then she was an oddity!

lollipoprainbow · 17/11/2023 08:39

Estée Lauder white linen my late sisters signature scent x

Deathraystare · 17/11/2023 08:40

@Nanalisa60

Well he sounds like a keeper (with great taste in perfume!!)
