Hi,
I need a dress (small budget) for my upcoming works party which was simply entitled "dress to impress" I was thinking of this.

With these shoes

I am a tall slimish 14 with with smallish boobs
If I get it, wear it without the slip like Louise or with?
Thanks

Definitely with the slip. I can’t see an employer being ‘impressed’ at seeing an employees underwear all night!

Fannyannie · 11/11/2023 08:43

Look on Vinted for the brands you usually get on with .

WinchGirl · 11/11/2023 08:49

Oooh. I hadn't thought about Vinted. I will have a browse this morning. Thank you.

Definitely with the slip if you go for that one !

I know Popsy are a bit marmite, but they have lots of velvet and sparkles in their party wear collection for under £50 www.popsyclothing.co.uk/collections/womens-partywear?_=pf&sort=created-descending&display=grid

Twiggywinkle13 · 11/11/2023 09:30

You know where had loads of lovely sparkly dresses? Tesco! They looked lovely.

Chaiselongueallday · 11/11/2023 09:57

I'd definitely go with Vinted. I've been looking at black velvet lace dresses ...there are loads. Roman also had a nice one.

Sorry we all have our own opinions , those Popsy ones look sparkly but not v special. More for comfort I would say. I had a dress from them once bobbled loads and was v hot also felt a but frumpy. Just my opinion though.

This is a similar look £80 with a code?

There are some great options on eBay at the right price point also if you search evening dress size 14

AlimonyHelp · 11/11/2023 10:24

I got this from Tesco for under £30

I'd say Vinted too. I got a sequinned French connection dress for my Xmas party for £10.

Plus the quality and fit of Peacocks clothes isn't always the best.

GettingStuffed · 11/11/2023 11:55

I really like the outfit you posted. I think it looks far more expensive than it is

Doggymummar · 11/11/2023 14:38

That dress looks super expensive, not sure in real life but it fab

MovingAround90 · 11/11/2023 14:48

You can do better than black at Christmas, OP!! Agree with PP look for some fun brands on Vinted

FizzyLaser · 11/11/2023 14:49

I love that dress!!

FizzyLaser · 11/11/2023 14:49

Don’t like the shoes

I got two evening dresses and a jacket from eBay for going on a cruise .
I start with BTWT and my size .

Peakypolly · 11/11/2023 16:00

I think the shoes are a bit meh though.

Bemyclementine · 11/11/2023 17:25

Is it a bit of a 20s pattern? In which case I'd change the shoes, add some appropriate jewellery, it'll look great!

TulipTuesday · 11/11/2023 17:30

Love the dress op! Agree that you could get better shoes though.

WinchGirl · 11/11/2023 18:00

Thanks everyone for suggestions and help. It is greatly appreciated and I really mean that. Enough people have liked the Peacocks dress, which has convinced me to order it.
I have a bit of time before the party so if I don't like it when I try it on, I will return it and go back through some of the other suggestions. I will wear it with the slip underneath!

The shoes... No one seemed to like my choice :(
If anyone would be kind enough to offer an alternative that would be fab and for a similar price if possible.
Generally I like a bit of a heel, but open to suggestions on what would go with the dress. A heeled Mary Jane? Colour?

I didn’t like the dress but did quite like the shoes if that helps! Though both together might be a bit fussy.

Agreed. I’m not in the market for one right now but saw a few the other week when shopping.

I love that dress - the lace is not your usual lace. I think it will look fabulous.

For shoes, I'd go with a bright, colour pop platform. I think they would contrast brilliantly with the dress and I find platforms much more comfy than heels as there seems to be a gentle slope as opposed to a sheer drop for the balls of my feet.

Something like this?
