And you’re asking here?

Come off it … 🤔

colderandeatsmincepiesalot · 02/11/2023 14:31

Haha yes I see what you mean, but actually I have read some really great posts on S&B with wonderful suggestions before - just because I work in the industry doesn't mean I can't source opinions suggestions from MN?

OP posts:
ShirleyPhallus · 02/11/2023 14:31

I don’t think MN is the place to ask 😆

you’ll get directed to something that makes you look like you’re going to an Amish funeral

colderandeatsmincepiesalot · 02/11/2023 14:38

Hmm...maybe that will be the look I am going for!! 😏
ok ok so this is not the place...sigh...it's so stressful!!

Still with the othering of religious sects, @ShirleyPhallus ?

Goodness …

SylvieLaufeydottir · 02/11/2023 14:41

Do you mean a senior job in fashion?

Honestly, if you have to ask Mumsnet, that's not a good sign. The average poster is not exactly on the fashion cutting edge.

If you are due to start a senior leadership role in the fashion sector, I think you need to either watch your peers with an eagle eye and copy them, or hire a stylist. If you're working for a brand, obviously start with their clothing.

PerditaProvokesEnmity · 02/11/2023 14:41

I imagine you don’t want a John Lewis personal shopping recommendation? Really cannot imagine what you’re hoping for here, @colderandeatsmincepiesalot

Nemareus · 02/11/2023 14:45

Well Mumsnet likes Toast, Boden they have a love/hate relationship with but mostly love, hush, whistles, Reiss, Mint Velvet, White Company etc. And Joan’s dresses or something also love/hate relationship. So as is Mumsnet, something from there maybe? Gestures vaguely

Nemareus · 02/11/2023 14:47

I mean I would google top fashion designers, check out their latest Collections and buy something similarish but with my own twist on it- whether that be accessories, footwear/handbags or colour.

colderandeatsmincepiesalot · 02/11/2023 14:48

Yes yes I get what you are all saying - however, I just don't want to look try hard...I would not wear an obvious brand - I just want to look understated. But I thought it might be worth a try for someone to say 'look at these fabulous black wide leg trousers' or 'this jacket is just divine'... I will leave now with my head hung low to scout out the Outnet..... 🙄

I’m sorry, @colderandeatsmincepiesalot but I Do Not Believe anyone professionally involved in the fashion world would come here for advice.

If you need MN you’re really not ready for the job …

SylvieLaufeydottir · 02/11/2023 14:56

Also, if your new job is for, say, The Fold, you'll be dressing very differently to if it's with Topshop, and differently again for if it's with Prada.

Didn't you see what the people you met with so far were wearing?

happyshineyperson · 02/11/2023 15:05

Aww I do agree with the general sentiment of this thread but also feel bad! How about some wide leg trousers with a great blazer and cool boots? I guess it really depends on the role though - working in buying or marketing might be a bit more cool than finance or HR? Can you tell us what type of role it is?

DoktorPeppa · 02/11/2023 15:10

I know you said dark, but a light outfit would look more dynamic. I would choose an edgy silhouette - this isn't the time to play it safe - and pair it with trainers, to demonstrate that you are down to earth.

Something like this perhaps

@colderandeatsmincepiesalot i think you have had some unkind responses. I started a thread earlier and also had some weird responses, not sure what’s going on tbh.

Do you like black? I love black and have just recommended this sweater on another thread. It would look gorgeous with:
wide leg black or silver trousers, a nice belt, a silver pointed flat shoe or cream/white shoe if pairing with silver trousers. Remember to style your outfit with jewellery and accessories.

What a fucking weird thread. What are you lot actually on about?

Imagine asking for style advice on the style board...where will this madness end?!

or a wooden vest

Now that would be cutting edge. If a bit splintery.

TokyoSushi · 02/11/2023 15:23

Why are people being so weird?! Does the brand have a shop OP? Could you go in there and have a look at what people are wearing?

CyberCritical · 02/11/2023 15:25

I'm not a fashionista but people always look best when wearing something that suits them rather than something that's fashionable.

So what colours, shapes, styles best suit your skin tone, height, weight?

What makes you feel comfortable and confident. People look awful when they are constantly pulling stuff, up/down, twisting, itchy....

Is there anything in your wardrobe that makes you feel beautiful and strong whenever you put it on?

Doggymummar · 02/11/2023 15:25

I'd go for h and m probably if you want understand or Uniqlo. Neither are try hard and they tend to be discrete

londonmummy1966 · 02/11/2023 15:28

As you should know most fashion editors wear a lot of Me & Em so go o their nearest shop and ask an assistant for help.

PerditaProvokesEnmity · 02/11/2023 15:35

🤷🏾‍♀️

Find something from either a very new Nigerian designer or a very old Belgian one. Wear with something from your own wardrobe that always prompts compliments and makes you feel confident. Add whichever type of Mary Jane or loafer shoe - heeled or flat, pointy or rounded, black or colourful - you like best. Ready …
