It's freezing cold here. I'm looking for a fleecy jacket or jumper with these features

  • ultra soft and warm inside - so not a 'rough' unlined fleece.
  • no hoods
  • blue, light grey or cream but open to suggestions
  • ideally sort of smart looking in the way that Gaastra fleeces or designer fleeces can be. I don't actually know what the reason for the difference in look is - I think maybe the nap of the fleece is smoother or something so it looks less lumpy after a wash - but they look more 'expensive' and less tired Eastenders woman down the laundrette.
  • warm, warm and warm again.

I miss my gaastra fleeces but that said they weren't ultra soft inside.

Anyone got any suggestions please.

I would look for more of a technical fleece, so they Patagonia, Finisterre, Musto, Henri Lloyd etc

Sewaccidentprone · 28/10/2023 08:21

I think what you’re looking for is a soft shell with a fleece lining.

A couple of weeks ago at Costco, I bought the softest fleece jacket I have ever come across. The same soft, deep pile inside and out, no hood and tailored to the female shape. I don't know whether you'd consider it smart, but the tailored shape rather than the 'unisex' baggy shape makes it smarter IMO. It was almost identical to the one in the screenshot, just without the hood.

Weirdfish code OUTSIDE20 just got me 20% off

Something like this from Helly Hansen? Smooth on the outside but fleece lined - you might need to look at more technical makes for outdoor activities to find something suitable.

stringbean · 28/10/2023 09:35

Or this one?

KirstenBlest · 28/10/2023 10:57

I remember wearing a fleece in the 1980s,but we called it a helly (Helly Hansen) not a fleece.
I have a old Rohan one and it's not stylish but it is warm.

Plastic. Often recycled bottles.

Wildflower2022 · 28/10/2023 11:13

Sorry just seen it’s already been recommended, should have read the whole thread!

Sorry OP but I’ve never found any fleece to ever be smart looking! Every time I see someone in a fleece I think how instantly scruffy it makes them look.

I agree, fleeces are very manly. A felted wool jacket like this Boden one would be nicer

KirstenBlest · 28/10/2023 18:53

But it wouldn't keep your back warm.

VirginRiverWide · 29/10/2023 20:43

@stringbean I loved that navy Helly Hansen which had the smartness I was after and @ShyTed although not as smart as I wanted I love the pink flash on that asos one.

thanks everyone for the other suggestions will look thru thme all.

I have this from asda, shorter length and wide sleeves give it a designer look, the spice colour is lovely and it's very soft
