Picked up a BNWT top in the local charity shop today, blue and white fine check (DD says it looks like chef's clothes), loose and baggy, one size, perfect holiday top. Brand is "Cut Loose" which I have never heard of. Felt nice quality.

Got it home and spotted the price on the original tag. £108. 😯It's sort of like this but cotton and a different print. Very pleased!

Enjoy your bargain op, it’s not to my taste but I am glad you are happy.

Pearlhavingherfifth · 24/10/2023 19:10

Few days ago i bought an original Prada dress in charity shop, what was never used, had a tag on it,but no price, for 7.50.
I was very pleased, and is perfectly fits me!It was my first big bargain.
Congratulation OP :)

I love a bargain - good for you @Stroopwaffels! I myself have never had luck like this in any of our local charity shops.

@Pearlhavingherfifth, tell me to bugger off since im just being nosey, but I'd love to see the dress out of curiosity. 👀

I got an LK Bennett dress, still with price tags (£125) for £7 this weekend. My best bargain.

Here is the dress! :)

Not being funny but if it didn’t have a Prada label you’d assume it was from Primark. Looks like very weather worn. Maybe it’s better on??

Pearlhavingherfifth · 25/10/2023 11:51

Yes its a lot better when you try it on,on pic is not the best.

stayathomer · 25/10/2023 11:52

I think it looks fab!!!!!

gotomomo · 25/10/2023 13:16

I do love a bargain too. I love that top, well done!

Best bargain I got was a monsoon evening dress, tags attached (£179) for £9.99 which was then 20% off because I'm a volunteer at a different branch.

Coronilla · 25/10/2023 13:32

I got this Rag and Bone cardigan, which apparently retails at $450, for 15 quid. FIFTEEN QUID!!!

heldinadream · 25/10/2023 13:39

@Coronilla that cardigan is a beauteous thing!

My fave bargain from years and years ago now is still (and I still have it) a linen-mix La Redoute summer jacket which was brand new, would have been £74 (talking 30 years ago) and had been reduced from its original chazza price about six times, from 20 to 15 and so on until I snapped it up at I think it was £4, and I still wear it and still love it! Could do a pic in a minute...

CloudyAgain · 25/10/2023 13:45

I once (years ago) got a Burberry trench for £50.00. ! It still had the tags and was north of £1000 new!!

Sadly though i am short and fat so it made me look like a button mushroom.

I gave it to my mother who is also short and fat but she adores brands so tends to just give it a stroke now and then as she walks past the coat stand.

Kittensat36 · 25/10/2023 14:04

I got a home made rockabilly dress for £3.50 at the weekend.
But my biggest bargain was a silicone bundt pan for £4.50. had been perusing them on eBay for £15+p&p

DiscoBeat · 25/10/2023 14:11

Brilliant, looks great! I love a CS bargain. I got a brand new Le Creuset pink fondue set for £4 once all still boxed up. I love it and use it.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 25/10/2023 14:21

Another Burberry Trench bargain here! So long ago I can’t remember how much but suffice it to say you couldn’t buy a rain cape in M&S for that money.

I don’t think it suits me that well, and it is surprisingly hot, also the pockets are a bit weird and it is difficult to use them. However, dH loves it and tells me how nice I look every time I wear it, so I do.

We had a work 'no spend September' thing recently and all the bright young things were canvassing for 'vintage shopping tips' on the company intranet. Some of my younger colleagues suggested I should publish my hard won wisdom.

No chance. We are all on the hunt for the same stuff - I'm taking all my vintage shopping secrets to the grave Grin

KirstenBlest · 25/10/2023 14:58

I got a Burberry trench coat for £25 about 17 yrs ago. It was too long for me so I sold it.

Got a Toast dress for £5.50 the other day. It's lovely.

My tip is to go through all the rails, and touch the clothes. Stand back from the rails and look at the clothes again. Something might catch your eye.

Possimpible · 25/10/2023 15:03

@CloudyAgain I have nothing to add to the thread, I'm rubbish at bargains, but I just wanted to say the image of you looking like a button mushroom has cheered up my day 😂 thank you

OutOfSyncWithReality · 25/10/2023 15:09

Thank you for the thread. I've been after a pair of black jeans for ages and inspired by this thread went for a charity shop during my lunch break - and picked up a pair in my size (black and my size!) for £4. Not a great bargain but they fit and they are now mine :)

KirstenBlest · 25/10/2023 15:14

I'm afraid the burberry didn't work for me. It was a nice coat but I have ones I like more.
Any preconceptions of it giving an air of Jane Birkin were soon quashed by a full length mirror.

LovelyGreenCushions · 25/10/2023 15:27

So many bargains
My best was a pipe for £2.50
I am not a pipe expert but my DF was and I knew it was collectable
Sold for £98.50 and I went back to the shop to donate £50.

Showdogworkingdog · 25/10/2023 15:29

Nice one. Last year I bought an old Enid Blyton book at a vintage fair for £5. It had a dust wrapper in lovely faded 1950s colours but I couldn’t find the publication date. Looked it up when I got home and found it’s a first edition, a specialist online bookseller has it listed at £175. Need to sell it but I kind of like it.

Similar
I was at an auction and no-one bid on a box of books- so I did- minimum bid was £6 including tax
Turns out it was 6 boxes- I looked in horror as they brought them to the car
They sat in my conservatory for a while until my DF came round- took half a dozen away to look at.
One is worth £1000 at least- he has it as he loves it but it is mine-it is a bit personal to him as he knew the very very famous author when he was a child and it is a 1st edition-only made for friends
Sold another ex library for £52, another for about £40 . £35 etc
I still have 3 worth at least £100 each and the one worth a £1000 and have sold at least £300 worth
