Is this ok for an awards ceremony?

Hi all, some advice needed please.

I’ve been invited to an awards ceremony at work - the dress code is ‘dress to impress’ and it’s at a ballroom. It’s not an actual ball and my workplace is corporate but more like casual corporate if that makes any sense at all!

it’s definitely not as formal as black tie and so I’m struggling a bit with what to wear. I feel very meh about myself at the moment and was wondering if something like this might be ok? I’m 5ft6 and a 14-16.

I don’t have a huge budget (ideally under £50 which this is)

It'll do but that's about the best that can be said.

Second recommendation tonight for Joannie. I really don't have shares in Joannie but for dresses under £100 they are exceptionally good.

If you're a new customer you can get 10% off which takes you near your budget on full price items.

OP what you have attached is much more appropriate for an awards ceremony at work than any of the printed Joanie dresses. Print is out of style right now so it will look out if place. I think those dresses are hideous..

DailyEnergyCrisis · 19/10/2023 03:21

I like your choice OP. Agree the Joanie ones are horrendous.

ApolloandDaphne · 19/10/2023 03:21

I like your look better than the Joanne look OP.

ClaraBourne · 19/10/2023 03:25

I hope you weren't thinking of the kitchen utensil dress!

Accessorise that outfit and it'll be great!

SweetPeaPods · 19/10/2023 05:12

Also not a fan of the Joanie dresses.
What you have OP linked is lovely, and I'm sure you will get wear out of it again over the festive period.

MyCircumference · 19/10/2023 05:51

i love the joannie dresses

Labradoodlie · 19/10/2023 05:56

I really like your choice OP, and it’s totally appropriate for a work do.

daisychain01 · 19/10/2023 05:59

I went to an awards night up in London last week - they'd billed it as black-tie and the majority of women were in long evening dresses but I notices quite a few were wearing smart black trousers and a glittery top. That's much more affordable, you will get more use during the coming festive season and at least you won't spend a lot of cash on something that will sit in the wardrobe for 364 days a year. I wore a long dress that I already had, it was fine, no way was I going to spend a small fortune, no point.

Mystro202 · 19/10/2023 06:39

That is beautiful OP, glittery and stands out. Those Joanie dresses are frumpy and not fabulous. Who in their right mind would wear one of those to an awards doo?

MightyFine · 19/10/2023 06:42

I think yours is a good choice too op. I don't like the Joanie dresses either fwiw.

pilates · 19/10/2023 06:43

Yes your outfit is much better than the dresses on the Joanie website.

Actually I think the OP's outfit is really nice and perfect for her event and the Joanie dresses really aren't.

Iwillnotdancewiththedevil · 19/10/2023 06:53

I love that jumpsuit, and it's definitely sounding suitable for your event.

Rina66 · 19/10/2023 06:57

Love the jumpsuit, perfect for a works awards do.
I'm surprised by how good the evening wear is on the high street at the moment, Tesco have 2 lovely jackets, one satin side tie style and a black sequin one. Roman also had a really nice top and jacket that they styled with leathers, all really good in real life!

I do like your choice actually I think it could look really chic. So if you love it go for it. No way would I wear a full length gown unless I already owned one or could borrow one.
The place that’s surprised me with some nice evening wear recently has been M&S (but I’m not saying that because I think you need an alternative.) I liked this dress which is similarly pared back ( although I hate the boots with it )

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 19/10/2023 07:13

On what planet are those Joanie dresses suitable for an awards ceremony?

OP, that jumpsuit is lovely and would be perfect!

Op that will work, with heels, hair and make up done, elegant and understated.

im also saying no to the Joanie dresses, absolutely in the main not suitable for an awards event. More quirky geography teacher on a field trip.

Your option is definitely the best thing I've seen on this thread OP.

Rina66 · 19/10/2023 07:27

@NatashaDancing I think your Joanne dresses are hideous, totally fall short of the 'dress to impress' remit and frumpy but I never said any of that in my original post because I choose kindness, but clearly the gloves are off, soI will now 😂

Rainbowx90 · 19/10/2023 07:29

I don't think any of the suggestions made on this thread (including the jumpsuit OP posted) are suitable for a dress to impress event.
It should be a go all out outfit. I'd wesr that jumpsuit to a meal or drinks at the pub.
And them Joannie dresses are god awful!

LivingDeadGirlUK · 19/10/2023 07:29

I think your outfit choice is nice and as others say you will get much more wear out of it than a gown.

QuillBill · 19/10/2023 07:30

The jumpsuit is absolutely perfect.
