Boots over skinny jeans?

LunaLoveFood · 14/10/2023 08:20

Off shopping for new boots today, but have a dilemma. Are knee high boots worn over skinny jeans/leggings still a thing or is it a definite no.

I hate wearing trousers/ jeans in the autumn as I can never get them them the right length and so they tend to get wet around the bottom hem which is uncomfortable.

Is it OK to wear knew high or ankle boots on top of skinny jeans/leggings ?

I've long ago given up caring what is and isn't in fashion and refuse to change my wardrobe of some of the expensive items I've bought, just because they aren't the height of fashion any more.

Personally I think leather boots and skinny jeans are a pretty timeless, stylish yet practical look. I have a few pairs of leather boots, from ankle boots to under the knee boots. My core pair is a pair of lace up brown leather 'walking' type boots from joules. Warm and practical. For colder weather I have a pair of black knee length goretex boots which come just under my knee. I wear these with jeans, dresses, skirts etc, for work as well.

I second @SwearyBetty - Solovair are better than DMs for comfort IMO.

Rosiem2808 · 14/10/2023 11:43

I have two pairs of DMs and they are both Pascal leather and although I like the look of them I dread wearing them !
I have a lookalike pair of boots bought from Office two years ago which are still going strong and a fraction of the price of my Docs.

Hadn't thought of DM's are they as difficult to break in and make comfy as some people say?

DMs are great. I get the soft ones which require no (well less) breaking in. My problem is that they're always too tight across the bridge of my foot right under the laces. I take the insole out and they're perfect. I've never had them rub anywhere else.

I wear knee high over my skinnies. I also pair them with a midi dress and leather jacket on the milder days.

TheOGCCL · 14/10/2023 12:50

I really like the long boots over skinnies look but do feel it looks a bit in the dated side especially if the jeans are very skinny. So practical though, and imo classy and stylish. The boots balance out the parsnip look you can end up with skinnies.

If you're worried about cold wet ankles you could try a taller ankle boot (the shaft not the heel) and slightly cropped trousers which I think is a more modern look.

I was i Glasgow Yesterday and it seems knee length boots and jeans are the latest trend.

Blinkityblonk · 14/10/2023 16:32

Although most young people are still in baggy pale denim jeans/combats at the moment, I've spied a couple of skinny/boot combos, not the absolutely skin-tight jeans but just slim fit plus lovely knee-high boots, they looked great. So I think this look has come around again which is good news for anyone who was still sticking it out from last time:)

GrimGrinningGhosts · 14/10/2023 18:11

I dont feel comfy in standard DM's because of the height, but I live in a 14 hole pair with skinny jeans. Just that little extra height makes them feel a bit less clumpy for me.
I also adore a pair of brown slouchy ankle boots with black skinny jeans.

My favourite look (which I live in during autumn/winter) are good quality black leggings and ankle or mid calf boots. I’ve been wearing that look for about thirty years and it never seems to date.

Could you recommend any brands for good quality leggings?

LunaLoveFood · 14/10/2023 18:49

Tada, I bought some boots!

Definitely not the colour I was expecting, I was thinking tan or ox-blood red, but these really stood out and they are so comfy and fleece lined!

I wear my mid calf DM’s with skinny jeans. They’ve been broken in for 10 years and just started hurting again yesterday so maybe it’s a sign I’m out of fashion 😂😂😂

YourNan · 14/10/2023 20:30

Wear what you feel comfortable in and what you enjoy. It's a big yes from me for leggings and boots but I think a slightly longer/looser top or jacket is needed to balance it out. Mossy does it so it must be ok :)

Who cares? If you want to wear boots with skinny jeans, then wear boots with skinny jeans, you're not 15, you don't need to agonise over what's "in" and what isn't. Wear what you like.

Great question. I struggle to find none baggy / see through leggings

Nannyfannybanny · 15/10/2023 10:23

I see there was a argument about skinny jeans on here recently. I'm 72,5ft 2",size 10. It's skinny jeans, jeggins. Have 2 pairs of straight leg. Life is village dog walking/gardening/grandkids. I look ridiculous in baggy, flared, swamped! Yes,knee highs and ankle boots ta,fur lined when it gets frosty and the night walks!

YourNan · 15/10/2023 11:32

It's not that old and even so, it's style that matters not whether someone decides if it's 'in fashion' or not. If you can carry it off and it makes you happy, wear it.

I don’t go for particular brands I just go by the look and feel of them. How thick they are (can’t stand those thin ones that look like you’ve forgotten to put your skirt on). I tend to go to the higher end high street shops. I bought an expensive pair once from Reiss but really wasn’t that impressed with them but that could have been because I bought them in grey instead of black so never really liked them. I look in the different depts of John Lewis and have had some really good quality ones from Next in the past. I don’t buy from places like Primark or New Look etc as they are too thin and shoddy.

Same!

It's all very well not being 'on trend' but the fact is that on shorter people, fitted skinny styles look better and are more flattering.

Where did you get these? I've been looking for some nice lined ankle boots for winter. They're lovely.

I've got my eye on some at Jones bookmaker but I'm not sure they have physical shops anymore to try on.
