Boots over skinny jeans?

LunaLoveFood · 14/10/2023 08:20

Off shopping for new boots today, but have a dilemma. Are knee high boots worn over skinny jeans/leggings still a thing or is it a definite no.

I hate wearing trousers/ jeans in the autumn as I can never get them them the right length and so they tend to get wet around the bottom hem which is uncomfortable.

Is it OK to wear knew high or ankle boots on top of skinny jeans/leggings ?

I think it is as you should wear what you want, not what others dictate. I wear Chelsea boots and thick leggings all winter.

Devilsmommy · 14/10/2023 08:24

I've seen a few people wearing knee highs with skinnys so must be ok. I'm a DM fan myself

LunaLoveFood · 14/10/2023 08:27

Hadn't thought of DM's are they as difficult to break in and make comfy as some people say?

Knee high seems more acceptable with skinny jeans. To be honest even if not stylish then it's practical and warm in winter. I would be freezing with a draft up my legs.

Floofydawg · 14/10/2023 08:30

I just got these - love them. Intend to wear them with jeans and dresses.

Well I'm wearing the steel toe cap ones and as long as I had a nice chunky pair of socks on they broke in fine. I've never had problems with them but I know some people have moaned. Then again, any boots need breaking in so it's a toss up as to how comfy they are at the outset. I'd definitely go DMs though, perfect winter boots imo

mynameiscalypso · 14/10/2023 08:33

The very cool younger people that I work with have been wearing knee highs over skinny jeans this week.

NotObligedToArgueWithStrangers · 14/10/2023 08:33

Wear whatever you like and you will look fabulous.

potatoheads · 14/10/2023 08:35

Whilst you can obviously wear what you want, you are asking about what it considered in style atm. Skinny jeans that are super stretchy and painted on are not particularly on trend atm but slim leg or skinny jeans that are actual jeans not jeggings or spray on tight are fine with long boots. I've attached an image of slim leg. They differ from super skinny as they aren't like a second skin

For me yes I had to get rid. Solovairs are much better quality and more comfortable.

Love the look of these and not something I had considered. In.my head I was thinking either Chelsea boots or knee high.

Wear what you like and makes you feel good.

I live on the edge of rural areas and you see this look still on the school run mostly from mums who are farming or horsey types. I don’t imagine anyone gives it a second thought.

As you say, it’s very practical for wet days. Yesterday I had to dig out some straight legged jeans as my usual wide ones would have been soaked in the rain. Wide legged trousers and rain do not mix!

I'm not i to super skinny jeans, I prefer something with some stretch and give.

I also like to wear boots with dresses and wither thick tights or leggins.

You can get soft ones which aren't at all.

JustToBeMe · 14/10/2023 08:44

Another DM fan here, I wear my black patent ones with skinny jeans and slim trousers, they diid take a week or so to break in, but I wore them every day and they're perfect now, so comfortable.

StasisMom · 14/10/2023 08:44

And western boots are having a moment.., They can be mid calf or knee high. Or ankle actually.

theduchessofspork · 14/10/2023 10:14

I think the chances are you will think ankle boots look better

willWillSmithsmith · 14/10/2023 10:41

My favourite look (which I live in during autumn/winter) are good quality black leggings and ankle or mid calf boots. I’ve been wearing that look for about thirty years and it never seems to date.

I never got my Docs to a wearable state. Lanx took a couple of days and Joseph Cheaney were wearable from day 1.

Sandalholidays12 · 14/10/2023 10:45

Yes it's fine OP. You need a tighter Jean to go with long boots anyway. I think the image uploaded isn't great maybe too much blue going on and darker jeans would of been better matched with a black top

Mine are weapons of torture.

Lucyintheskywithadiamond · 14/10/2023 11:16

I have been wearing skinny jeans and knee high boots for years now, love them and I won’t stop wearing them because someone’s opinion is that they are out fashion. Wear what your want, if you like the boots buy them, life is too short to be concerned what others think x

IndiKid2015 · 14/10/2023 11:25

The pascal virgin leather DMs are softer than the smooth leather ones, mine have never hurt my feet.

Can’t help you with jeans really, it’s tricky at the minute, I know there are more fashionable styles but I don’t find any as flattering as black skinnies. I relented and bought some girlfriend jeans but I’m
not sure what to wear on my feet with them in winter.

FoxBaseBeta · 14/10/2023 11:28

I was just coming to say the Pascal DMs too, beautiful soft leather that doesn't need breaking in. I wear with black or grey slim legs jeans/trousers
