Stylish people, help! Could I ever pull this dress off?

I just saw a lady in this dress and she looked amazing. Teamed with cowboy boots and perfectly accessorised. She was slim, about 50, lovely long, curly hair. She looked cool and stylish and the colours just shone out. Basically, I reckon she’d look great in a bin bag.

I am 45, size 12, short and slight and all tummy, not that glamorous. Short bobbed brown hair, quite high contrast colouring (although fading, I fear), I try my best with outfits, but doubt I ever look cool, and my instinct would be to pop a cardi on top of it got nippy (don’t worry, I know that’s not chic.)

Is it worth even trying with a dress like this? How could a not very cool tummysome lady pull it off? https://www.frenchconnection.com/products/avery-burn-out-midi-dress-toasted-almond

I'm small and slight and there is way too much material, I'd drown in it, you'd be better off with curvy hips and boobs, plus the pattern is too overwhelming. And the tie belt is awful on anyone with a thicker waist, all together no I can't imagine it will work for you. But try it on, no harm, sometimes flattering isn't what you're looking for

The tie belt is awful on the model.

I don't like the dress. It's a mixture of things

All I see is polyester flounce, so anyone wearing it would be rocking a kind of gypsy festival vibe rather than sophisticated

All I could see was the polyester flounce but anyone rocking the gypsy/ festival/ Shaker/ Amish vibe wouldn't wear (such obvious) polyester. The flounce is badly set in as well, and it's only a single piece of material so the back of the flounce is very obvious.

The gypsy/ festival/ Shaker/ Amish set (of which I am one) wouldn't wear the waist tie either. And it looks terrible with the waist tie so I guess it's trying to appeal to people who like tied in waists but the rest of it looks wrong.

I also don't like the background colour. Or the length - needs to be shorter or longer.

I’m short and fairly curvy (10 top, 12 bottom, sticky-out bum) I wouldn’t touch this with a barge pole, far too much going on.

I am just slightly taller than you and on the thinner side. I can't imagine a less flattering look. I'd be drowned by the pattern and sheer volume of material. It would made almost anybody - a 5' 10" model excepted - look fatter. Do you think model spends her off duty hours wearing this sort of outfit.

The volume of material isn't the problem. It's the type of material and the fussy pattern that's wrong.
