What can I wear to my ds's friend's wedding?

It's years since I've been to a wedding, and I'm not exactly sure why I've been invited to this one! But invited I have been, and I intend to go! Naturally, I have left it to the last minute to buy anything and am now panicking! Please help :).

I'm 58, 5' 4", a 12-14, dark hair, olive skin. I usually wear black, white, denim or navy but none of these will work for a wedding. I think I'm leaning towards a trouser suit, but I get hot quickly these days so I'd also need a nice top under the suit jacket. And probably shoes too. Budget is fairly fluid - not as fluid as I'd like as Ive just moved house and have builders in!

@QuaterMiss it's in a Manor House type place I believe. That trouser suit is absolutely beautiful but I'd have to downsize again if I bought it. Or not pay the builders ... hmm :). I think I'd have to be a foot talker and a couple of decades younger to pull off your second suggestion! It's beautiful though so thanks for linking.

@Millybob I guess navy would be ok, especially for an October wedding, but I don't have anything suitable - I mostly live in jeans/t-shirts, shirts etc.

TU at sainsburys online have a two piece navy velvet trouser suit. It would be gorgeous for a wedding, you could wear silver along with it or hot pink would be nice as well xxx

@Fwendi I’m older than you, and a tiny bit shorter - and I’d wear that Christian Wijnants dress any day of the week.

I don't like the brown dress but like the other colour option. I prefer this dress. The draping at the back is beautiful.

However if it's a trouser suit, the Ghospel green brocade is the winner.

Completely, I’m afraid! Very much my style. I’m only sorry there’s no video on the website - I’d have liked to see it in motion. Had it been in a different material - maybe silk, I’d have ordered it already. I really admire Christian Wijnants wonderfully cunning, simple shapes - the craft. The OP wanted a trouser suit, and I think it would look excellent with trousers. For myself, not going to a wedding, it might even tempt me back into jeans. And huge gold platforms.

Oh, how annoying! The black version of the Wijnants dress is silk. But I’d look awful in that print.

Do you already have any bottom halves you could buy a nice blouse to go with them or visa versa?

There's another current thread where I'm toying with suggesting the Ghospel suit for a "wow" factor but suspect it would be unwelcome and unwise.

Anything that looked good, @Name99. I mentioned jeans (which really aren’t a big part of my wardrobe at the moment) but it would depend on the occasion. Casual or festive.

Sorry but I'm laughing at the prices, do people actually spend that sort of money on a one off outfit or am I completely out of touch?

Get yourself into town and go to a department store and have a look at trouser suits, preferably with a cigarette pant, team with a pair of kitten heel slingbacks.
Or look in River Island, ASOS, Next etc.
Google cigarette pant trouser suits but for god's sake don't buy any of the outfits in the pps links 🤣

God, I love MN! Where else would I find out that so many people hate my wardrobe? Or think they might have any influence whatsoever on what I buy?
