Are skinny jeans really a no no?

I'm 38 and must have tried every jean out there -but I come back to my skinny jeans.
No other jeans suit me and I don't feel comfy in any other jeans
I've seen lots of threads on here about them being unfashionable etc
Are they really that out of style ?
In autumn I find them the best to wear with boots and knits ,shackets ,bomber jackets etc.

I don't want to be really out of fashion but at the same time I love my skinny jeans and they suit me as I have long legs (only good thing I have going for me )

Skinny jeans have acquired classic status to me. I can't seem them disappearing. They are not currently particularly fashion forward (even newsreaders and people in adverts are wearing looser shapes on their bottom half) but no one is going to laugh at you if that's what you feel best in.

mathanxiety · 18/09/2023 14:54

Don't be a slave to fashion. Wear what suits you.

Fishandchipsatthebeach · 18/09/2023 14:55

I still see young cool girls around here wearing them

spookyboooo · 18/09/2023 14:56

I just look ridiculous in mom jeans even straight don't suit me

Wear what you find comfortable, life is too short to worry about this kind of malarkey (I still wear skinny jeans and I'm very cool😎)

Aquamarine1029 · 18/09/2023 15:00

I love my skinny jeans, I think they look great, I will wear them for as long as I fancy, and IDGAF what anyone thinks of them. I'm never going to win a fashion award, anyway, so who cares?

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 18/09/2023 15:03

Only on MN, everyone else seems to be wearing them out in the wild 😉

MattDamon · 18/09/2023 15:06

I'm in London, work in media/entertainment and everyone still wears them, from teenage interns to oldies. Agree that they've acquired 'classic' status now.

EmmaPaella · 18/09/2023 15:07

I’m wearing some. That isn’t an indicator of cool however.

spookyboooo · 18/09/2023 15:15

I just find them so easy to shove on
With boots etc
I hate when jeans don't tuck into boots etc

Definitely agree that skinny jeans are a classic wardrobe staple now. I still wear them a lot. I just find them great for dressing up/down. They literally go with anything.

Blossomandbee · 18/09/2023 15:42

I'm the same everything else looks awful on me. There was a thread on here the other day that said skinny jeans were coming back, but regardless just wear what suits you. I think they're pretty classic now anyway as they've been around for so long. You can't beat them for boot/welly season I don't think.

AgingDisgracefullyHere · 18/09/2023 17:39

If you've got great legs (as I do) then why not show them off!

TellySavalashairbrush · 18/09/2023 17:43

I love mine and couldn’t give a rats that they are not in fashion anymore. Comfort always comes first these days.

WeightoftheWorld · 18/09/2023 17:55

I mostly wear skinnies for jeans. Have been doing so since my teens and I like them, comfy and suit me. Don't care what anyone else thinks.

Cheeesus · 18/09/2023 17:57

I agree they’re good for tucking into boots.

There are other options than mom though, I’ve got some lovely boyfriend and some 70s ish flaredy ones.

301963Laurie · 18/09/2023 17:59

Just wear them 🤷‍♀️Didn’t know they were a no no !

Garman · 18/09/2023 18:00

So just wear them what’s the problem?

Areyoufeelingokay · 18/09/2023 18:04

I wore wide leg jeans today. Ground was wet. Water seeped up the leg. Not comfortable to sit in all day, luckily they were black so you wouldn’t have noticed but it wasn’t a nice feeling.

These are the problems with wide leg jeans, bring back skinnies for autumn/winter. Much more practical

RampantIvy · 18/09/2023 18:05

I was in town on Saturday and went into several shops to look at jeans. M and S, Next, New Look and Primark all had racks and racks of skinny jeans, a few mom jeans and a few straight leg jeans. I would say that 95% of the jeans I saw were skinny.

Yet I keep reading statements on MN that skinny jeans are dated and no-one wears them any m ore. It's difficult to find much else round here.

MariaVT65 · 18/09/2023 18:07

Just wear what you like Op :)

I wear skinny jeans as i’m 5ft, so i can depend on them to be narrow enough around the ankle not to be dragging on the floor under my shoe like other styles.

Medlady · 18/09/2023 18:19

Now the weather has turned, I’ll be back in mine with big jumpers and bigger scarves. Would feel ridiculous with that much volume on top and wide trousers underneath

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 18/09/2023 18:27

I believe they’re meant to be back in this season are they not?

AuntieStella · 18/09/2023 18:32

Of course they're not a no-no!

Magazines and the like have been trying to persuade us for more than a decade that they're over, and have utterly failed to do so. They've become one of the classic cuts, and whatever the vagaries of fashion, they remain stylish. (And Grazia has been saying this year "they're back!" - ignoring that they never went away - sales remained buoyant)

Legs are meant to taper, so anything that is not skinny, tapered or no wider than straight tends to add chunkiness (unless you are very willowy of thigh). Chunky is not what how I want to look!

msmonstera · 18/09/2023 18:35

I wore wide jeans in the 90s. Remember the feeling of wet denim slapping off the back of my calves on wet days. No thank you! I like skinnies in general and they're easier with shoes/boots. Straight jeans make me look rectangular too; I don't have the height or the slenderness to pull them off. Nice on teenagers who pair them with cropped tops but they don't really work outside that imo.
